Woman Paralyzed After Chiropractor Visit

Last year, 29-year-old Caitlin Jensen was paralyzed after visiting a chiropractor. During her routine neck adjustment, her family says she suffered four ruptured arteries, a stroke and cardiac arrest. Jensen endured two months in the ICU followed by grueling rehab. Now, she is getting a tour of her brand-new Georgia home in her wheelchair. Jensen's mother says every day she's amazed by her daughter's fighting spirit and determination to walk again.

I used to see chiropractors. I thought it's the only way I would get relief. But after I started marathon training, I started seeing physical therapists and it not only fixed the pain I had before, but actually was addressing the cause of the pain - weak muscles in key places. Glad this woman has so much support.

Stress and lack of oxygen to certain parts of the body from holding your breath or not breathing properly as well. I used to be bed ridden because thought my back was out. The chiropractor twisted his neck and cracked it so hard that he was numb on one side of his face for 3 DAYS! Our friend had muscles like a weight lifter, but he hurt him so bad he said I will NEVER go back to another chiropractor! Only by the grace of God did he regain his mobility again. People, PLEASE DO NOT GO TO A CHIROPRACTOR ! All it takes is one wrong move and ……this or much , much worse could happen to YOU!

Her support system, and outlook on life will mean everything. The fact that she said she just feels lucky to be alive shows her positive outlook, which is instrumental in healing. The downside is, after a while, the mental trauma of it all will probably get to her. Someone needs to set her up in therapy ASAP. I broke my neck a few years ago, and after all of the physical stuff settled down, the trauma of it all opened a floodgate of emotions. Knowing that your body will never be the same again, and you’re stuck like that is rough. Luckily for me, after two surgeries I was able to walk, move my arms, and eat again, after intense PT, OT, and speech therapy. Still disabled, have trouble eating, and need more surgeries, but also still grateful to be alive. I still had the same positive outlook as her the whole time going through it, and the trauma still hit me like a ton of bricks. Not to mention going through the lawsuit (they freaking better sue) is mentally taxing, and keeps taking you back to through everything. This is something they don’t warn you about in the hospital, naturally because they’re focused on the physical healing. I kind of want to find a way to advocate for mental health for people like this, but not sure how.

I can say that God blessed me through this whole situation. I did not ever hear from the chiropractor again. He has never reached out. I did have lots of questions, but again, I am healthy and happy now, and it is truly only by His grace. I do remember him picking me up and carrying me to his truck. Driving to the ER, the nurse coming out with a wheelchair, him explaining what happened and then leaving. That was on a Thursday, and I did not have the stroke until Saturday. I was married at the time, and I asked the chiropractor to call my husband. I did not ever receive one dime from the chiropractor.

My 33 year old wife got a routine chiropractic neck adjustment 18 months ago and during the procedure the chiropractor dissected her vertebral artery. She had a stroke on the table and lost movement down the entire right hand side of her body. She spent 4 days in ICU and 3 days in the stroke ward. Was the single most terrifying moment in our lives. Fortunately physically she made a recovery, but still struggles emotionally whenever she thinks of it or hears of stories like this. After doing research, it’s unbelievable how much this happens during chiropractic visits! We will never step foot in another chiropractors clinic and we tell absolutely anyone we can to never take the risk. Our heart goes out to Kaitlyn and her family. We hope she gets through this.

He should have his license permanently revoked, his practice closed, spend years in jail for negligence and your husband should be a multimillionaire. That's one of the saddest stories I have ever heard of. Not that this will ever restore your husband's health and make him full again but filing a lawsuit and holding the chiropractor accountable will ensure this never happens again to anyone else.

My sister in law saw a chiropractor, who alleviated her pain, but it prevented the signs of her brain hemerrhage, so she collapsed a few hours later unexpectedly while cooking dinner and had to be rushed to the ER. The chiropractor told her everything was normal and that she was fine when she left, and that he had to continue seeing her to alleviate her pain. The chiropractors also make you sign a waiver when you get in to prevent lawsuits, and the ER doctors told us that this happened way to often, where chiropractors in there limited ability make issues worse by hiding the underlying issue or cause multiple strokes or injuries to clients. TLDR: Just see a doctor, there is a reason why chiropractors aren't included as part of the medical association.

I went to a chiropractor for serious back pain after living with it for a whole month. 1 session done and i still felt the same. Told me he needed to see me 2 times a week for a couple of months ($80 co pay each visit). I said in my mind, no way i can afford that. I then found and did some yoga exercises for 3 days straight (the first day i felt instant relief) and was good as new.
