The alleged attack occurred shortly after 7 a.m. on Monday in the 2000 block of Ocean Front Walk, just south of the Santa Monica Pier. KTLA's Carlos Saucedo reports. May 16, 2024.

Put the funding towards training citizens and allow them to defend themselves. Stop the DA from prosecuting people in self defense cases. What is faster random good citizen or a police patrolling? Even in this case people around her saved her not the police.

This open air asylum in LA has been happening long before the George Floyd cry of defund the police. And if you must know, the police were never defunded despite that cry. Still the most expensive law enforcement. This open air asylum is a result of the repeal of institutionalization laws under Reagan. Reagan deinstitutionalized us and asylums were emptied and that law made it illegal to capture crazy people and put them away. Los Angeles is working on reinstating that law however cause they see that this is the result of that blunder.
How dare the police infringe on rights reserved for the homeless to do what they like to whomever they want, whenever they want... Happy that those citizens got involved and did not choose to 'film' it instead.
Nothing to see here folks. Just another normal day here in SoCal.
They want to be kept safe while they disrespect and scream for the police to be defunded.

@@ptech88 Every year, for the last 6 years, the LAPD has lost $150 million dollars a year from their annual budget. The funds were allocated to fund more local community social workers offices. That and (AND) 1,000 police officer positions. The strength of the LAPD went down from 10,000 to 9,000. Currently, the LAPD has about 8,500 sworn police officers. That's how they were defunded! Any more questions? Therefore, these victims can take their complaints and their safety and security requests to their local community social workers offices!

Nobody does, that's the problem. You can't just lock up every homeless person for no reason because a few commit crimes. A bunch of people rear-ended other cars today that doesn't mean we need to ban cell phones or make everybody take the bus. The saving grace of this story is that other people intervened instead of ignoring but the knee-jerk reactions are pointless especially when people try to act like it's somehow political. Every city has homeless and crime no matter what party their mayor belongs to.

This is also happening in Texas and Florida which is Republican run. The problem we're seeing is that Reagan took away our system of catching the criminally insane and putting them away against their will in 1981. He deinstitutionalized the system we had. This is the result of that experiment and it has exploded. However, LA at least is trying to get a vote on a bill that would allow us to put these people away against their will BUT it has to get passed quietly or the people that love to protest everything all the time will make it their entire personality to bring that bill down. So they don't talk about it very much and are hoping to pass it quietly.
