A lot of books go in and out of my place but "Some of Me" by Isabella Rossellini is a permanent part of my personal library, a book to go back to over and over through the years. Wonderful collection of photos here. In some pictures Isabella reminds me of her mother, in some of Louise Brooks, but she is always herself.

She looks so much like her gorgeous mom. So much! I read an article not too long ago where she talked about her exit from modeling for Lancôme. Did you know that they canned her in 1996 right as she was turning 44? At that time, Lancôme was apparently owned and operated by men. So basically a group of clueless, arrogant wealthy white men with coffee breath. These men told her that she was too old. That her time was over. They told her that beauty advertising was about the dream, not “harsh reality”. These MEN had decided that what women dream about is being young, and that Isabella’s face was becoming a reminder of the opposite. She went through a pretty difficult time, emotionally, after that, as I’m sure you can imagine. They ended up replacing her with Juliette Binoche. So basically another ivory-skinned, dark-haired, full-lipped woman -but 12 years younger. I have nothing against Juliette Binoche, but when I think of Lancôme, I still think of no one but Isabella. To be honest, I didn’t even notice Juliette Binoche? I find her to be sort of underwhelming. Yawn. Anyway, Lancôme is now operated by women who (obviously) know what women ACTUALLY “dream of” and, 20 years later, they asked Isabella back. True story.

OMG i JUST CANNOT GET OVER THIS FABOULOUS WOMEN. ISSABELLA ROSSELLINA WHO HAD SUCH EXTRAORDINARY ETHERIAL BEAUTY AND HAS MADE ABSOLUTELY NO EFFORT TO TRY AND PRESERVE THAT BEAUTY THROUGH PLASTIC SURGERY. I JUST FIND THAT TO BE AMAZING. AFTER ALL SHE HAS THE MONEY TO HAVE A FACELIFT OR LASER RESURFACING BUT SHE CHOOSE NOT TO. I FIND THAT TO BE AMAZING BECAUSE SHE WAS JUST SOOOO BEAUTIFUL.
