Wolf Tooth 8-Bit Pack Pliers Review: Feature Packed with 17 Functions!

Спорт

"The 8-Bit Pack Pliers is a lightweight multi-tool with 17 functions. Eight attachments nest inside the handles of master link pliers using magnets and a clever storage system. These attachments then fit into an 8mm ball detent swivel head that has a 4mm opening for hex bits, which adds functionality to the already-versatile master link pliers. This new multi-tool was created to solve almost any minor repair on MTB and road rides alike." - Wolf Tooth Components
Features:
* 17 functions: spoke wrench; valve core wrench; flat head #3.5 and Phillips #2 screwdriver bits; 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8mm hex; and T10, T25 Torx-compatible bits; install and remove master links; clear tire sealant clogs from valve stem; tighten valve stem lock nut
* Magnets keep all bits in place
* Ball detent swivel head helps access hard-to-reach places
* Handle doubles as breaker bar for extra torque when the head is bent
* 8mm hex bit tested to over 40 Nm torque
Compatibility:
* Pliers work with 9-, 10-, 11- and 12-speed master links and chains (not compatible with Campagnolo 12-speed chains)
* Master Link storage is compatible with SRAM PowerLock Link, Shimano Quick-Link, KMC Missing Link, and other similar master links (not compatible with Connex Links by Wipperman)
In this video, JOM of the Gravel Cyclist Crew runs the Wolf Tooth 8-Bit Pack Pliers through a gamut of real-world tests, including a legit roadside repair dilemma. Some of that fun repair has been saved for a future ride experience video, but the Wolf Tooth 8-Bit Pack Pliers saved the day! This tool is highly recommended!

Very comprehensive review, and it's nice actually seeing the tool in action. Too many other reviews are guys sitting at their workbench describing how the tool would be used instead of actually showing it.

No worries Jason. One thing I have to add since the review. This tool usually lives in my sweaty jersey pocket (ultra humid Florida summer), some of the bits have light surface rust. Easy to remove but worth mentioning. Storing the tool in a saddlebag may be a good idea.

looks like a very handy and capable multi-tool. Powerful enough to remove a pedal; that's impressive. Unfortunately there is a tendency for bits to disappear on this type of tools - at least when they are in my possession.

Exactly Hans, slow, deliberate movements, else the bits could go flying into the woods... or elsewhere!

The need to tighten a pedal is probably less that the need to repair a chain.

Nice tool and all but what is the point of this tool when you have to carry an extra tool with a breaker?

Caught my interest but I am thinking the length would preclude it fitting in smaller saddle bags such as speed sleeve ranger

don't have chain breaker, and it have tendency to lose a bits in hasle. It have long body, but really short bits, and no extender. It not wery handy on tight spot, such as a rear derailleur attachment bolt and ect. 70$? Nah. Not worth it.

That's a nifty tooset. How often does one break their chain? I've been riding for 7 years and never had a broken chain.

Even if you break the chain, it’s the chain breaker and master link you need, not this tool. You can close the master link without this item.

Its not the broken chain but a broken derailleur. Without a chain splitter you cannot set the bike up to pedal out as a single speed which is better than walking. Derailleur damage is just as likely as having your saddle come lose and need tightening or your tubeless valve becoming clogged up.

What is the point of having a spare link if you don't have a chain splitter to remove the damaged link. Without removing the second pin you can't use the spare link. Great tool but without the chain splitter I would never buy one. Shame as I need another cool tool to kit out the MTB and Gravel bikes with their one separate spares so I'll stick to Leyzne for now. In some ways it's better but it misses that essential part.

Hi Rich, I am hoping they release an enhanced version of this tool with a chain breaker? In the meantime, I continue to carry a small chain breaker, much like I have been doing all this time.
