That's a deal and a half! I seriously can't get over your amazing (& seriously draining & risky) work ah with Carol to show the world how people are roped into the G.C. stuff. That was really eye-opening, like I had a feeling but couldn't imagine it really was that...like that. Amazing 3-parter. And I'm LIVING for your "A F🚬Reacts" series. It's fun! And a great way to poke holes in the idea that "I'm not [prejudice]ist, _that_ character is!" Plus the idea of personal choices (already skewer) and the outright denial of systemic issues, nvm intersectionality. History repeats itself. Cheers! And sorry about the eh brainnn stuff. (I'm trying my best.)

The thing Dharman neglects to address in these videos is that homophobia isn't always this loud and obnoxious. In real life it's often way more subtle and discrete. Besides just focusing on the coach's loud homophobia, if Dharman really wanted to make something that means something, there should have also been attention brought to the homophobic tolerance of Liam's entire team. If they were really all okay with Liam being gay, why didn't they speak up? Why did they continue playing for the homophobic coach? They could've all refused to play, they could have fought back when Liam was called a "sissy boy." It's not just actions that are harmful to the queer community, it's inaction by self-professed allies who tolerate homophobia and allow discrimination to happen

@@infinitivezHonestly, just near the end of Trump’s presidency, the court decided 5-4, with Gorsuch siding with the left that gays were protected from being fired from their jobs or refused housing just for being gay. It was a massive decision for gays like myself that didn’t get 1/10 the publicity the marriage decision did. The cake thing can be a bit difficult to understand but let me try. The bakery didn’t refuse to make one of their regular or even special order cakes for a gay couple, that would still be illegal. It refused to bake a cake with a gay slogan or gay flag or two men being married on top of it. And the court said they could refuse to do that because if they couldn’t, then it would be compelled speech. The bakery has to retain that right, even though we don’t like the result in this case, because if it doesn’t, then a Jewish bakery could be compelled to put swastikas or pro Nazi slogans on a cake. The current court is awful, a lot of the time, but sometimes they get it right.

I'm sick of the weird morals that Dhar Mann includes in their short films on discrimination. It's always, "Well now they're successful and rich and famous, you shouldn't have picked on them!" In reality, you should never pick on gay people, and they shouldn't have to prove their worth to you to escape your harassment. Not every gay person ends up with everyone on their side, and not every homophobe gets absolutely wrecked by karma, it's way more complicated than that, and feels like Dhar Mann just crammed the concept of homosexuality into their default bullying story format. very gross, and very sad.

Dharman clearly doesn't realise how most homophobia is covert. Like it's not a confidence that all my straight girl friends will talk for hours about their attraction to men but swiftly change the topic when I talk about women. Or just forget I am not attracted to men, assume my exes are men, and ask me if I find a man attractive and then get hurt when I'm like "no he's okay", despite knowing I'm a lesbian. I have had overt homophobia directed at me but most of the time it's so subtle I'm left wondering if I'm over reacting. A lot of my coworkers have never met my sibling, and I've only ever used gender neutral pronouns, yet they still manage to misgender them. I've even had them correct me. On my own siblings gender.

I think it's not so much misunderstanding as cynical attention-grabbing. Most English-speaking people are pro-gay rights, but in a fairly superficial way: they know and agree that it's wrong to be explicitly, violently homophobic. So, if you want to appeal to those large audiences, that is the understanding of homophobia that you want to address. Revenge fantasies of loud bigots being put in their place, and sympathy for gay people being rewarded. These videos get tens of millions of views with all the writing and production value of a primary school musical performance, so it clearly works - this is the kind of pro-LGBT story that sells. Like fast-food chains taking foreign cuisine and replacing all of the ingredients with salt and cheese, Dhar takes the aesthetic of gay liberation, replaces all of the substance with mindless displays of virtue, and sells it to a young, naive audience who don't know the real thing.

You can really tell that Mr. Mann has never experienced homophobia in his life, because of the way he thinks homophobes act. Yes, you have the people who are loud and screaming, but those are actually a very small portion of homophobic people. It’s actually easier to ignore the loud ones, because they make themselves sound stupid. The ones that really sting are the people who are quiet about it. The ones who mask their disgust with disapproval. The ones who insist they’re protecting children while pushing for laws and policies that hurt us. I do think he’s making an effort, but the way he’s doing it is not helpful at all. It doesn’t do anything to actually draw attention to real-world issues and the feelings that real people have. And in the real world, karmic retribution isn’t something that happens. Not in the way Dhar portrays, anyway. He isn’t helping anything by saying “be nice to gay people, or else.”

Dhar mann doesnt understand that homophobes dont want to be titled as homophobes. Most homophobes will disguise their bigotry as justice, such as saying they need to “protect the children”. For example, a homophobe irl would say something on the lines of “Im okay with same sex relationships but we shouldnt teach kids about pride until they’re older!” Homophobia is so hard to eliminate when homophobes refuse to or are ignorant of their bigotry.

Not sure but Dhar Mann is pretty much teaching morals here. The good and bad coming back to u all reflects on the attitude. Like, u got a good heart then u have a positive attitude and the good comes back to u as in u got a good life. Frankly, while I agree that it's different in reality, as in most people don't really circle back into your life to thank u for that good deed, but to a certain degree, we can apply some of the good morals like inclusivity and respect in our daily lives to be better people

I think the most believable part of this film was when the recruiter said, "Yeah, so?" I mean, seriously. Outrage over a gay athlete is so 1980s/1990s. Today, a homophobic coach would be the remarkable part and I'd expect such a coach to get reprimanded for his actions. How long ago was this film created. I was going to say that this movie would be more relevant and believable today if the protagonist was trans instead of (or in addition to) gay. But then I realized that would probably only work if the protagonist was a trans woman. Most transphobes don't seem to get all up in arms about trans men in men's sports. Probably because most of them seem to forget that trans men exist altogether.
