Ive watched all of your videos pertaining to the WOFT application over the past year. I’ve been putting my packet together since last November and you guys have helped immensely in the process. I was just recently selected and I signed my contract. I leave for basic in February and I wanted to thank you guys for all the helpful info. I don’t know if I would have made selection without your tips.

you guys are awesome for sharing the app process and the journey. I came up short for a childhood astmah condition that I could of gotten taken care of should I had started the process a couple years before, but I think you guys started sharing right as I realized it was still possible for me at 31 and my 33rd birthday passed unfortunately after all the research and math tutoring and the recruiters finally pushing my packet through... The goal is still to fly hellis, but civilian side. Much appreciated for all the info when I was able, and thank you for your commitments to our nation fellahs.

Gentlemen, Great videos and thanks for putting forth the time and effort into sharing your most up-to-date knowledge and experience on becoming an Army aviator. I am currently an active duty Marine Officer who is looking to become an Army aviator in California or Texas Army Guard. I’d love to apply for the WOFT board that is held specifically for commissioned officers at USAREC once a year in January, however I heard the competition for that board is extremely competitive and I personally think my SIFT score (48) is subpar. I’d love to continue my active duty military service as an Army Aviator but that option may seem far fetched. Maybe I should EAS, then apply as a civilian to have a better chance? With that said, I have been working with Army Guard recruiters who assured me that I’ll be competitive enough to fly for the Guard even with my subpar SIFT score (high selection rate). I simply rushed to get everything done in a month (SIFT and flight physical) prior to my deployment so it’s my fault for not properly preparing for the SIFT. I do feel confident that my leadership background in the Corps along with my PPL (fixed wing, 110hrs) will carry some weight when considering the whole-soldier-concept. However, as a guardsman, I do not like the fact that I am only a part-time Army aviator which will require me to have a full-time desk job to support my family. I apologize for ranting but I just wanted to share my situation. Maybe there is an opportunity to crossover from Guard to Active later down the road? Also, is it true that I will get to skip WOCS and report straight to Rucker since I already have a commissioning source from the Corps? Any input is appreciated. -Capt Anonymous, USMC

Brother I’ll be in fort Jackson for BCT in November as well! But I enlisted as a 15T and I’ll be going to fort eustis for AIT. I’m national guard so I’m gonna try to get my packet in once I get back to my unit

Getting my WOFT packet together and used "Fundamentals of flight",Trivium SIFT study guide. and another SIFT study guide to prepare for the SIFT exam next week. Very nervous about that test. Your info has helped I appreciate it.

@@NostalgicLink Well....I thought the test was going to be mostly about flight fundamentals...but no. It was mostly math and the picture orientation was blurry and terrible. I got 58 but still not happy since they had maybe 5 questions about aviation.

@@BlackHawk8825 I decided I was gonna look into a helicopter flight program at a college to go to before putting together my packet, because recently someone my recruiter was working with didn't get accepted, apparently because he had no flight experience, despite doing well on his ASVAB, SIFT, APFT, etc. Another guy on the same board did get accepted likely because he already had is private pilot's certificate and a degree in avionics... I realize people have gotten accepted without flight experience, but I want to increase my odds. Can you let us know if you get in? Thanks for the heads up on the SIFT.

@@bloodndestroy I did 6, which is the maximum. I didn't get one from a warrant officer aviator because I had some great ones already (FBI, US Marshals) but if you can reach out to one, do it. I say get as many as you can if you have a lot of people that can write for you and choose the best 6 from those. If you cant do 6, just do what you can, everything helps

@@bloodndestroy Just go to your nearest recruiting station Army office and tell them you're interested in woft. There's not a difference like that with recruiters, they work with everyone. I was lucky enough to be put in contact with a recruiter who was actually applying for woft themselves and knew all about it

Wolfcreeker91 as always we are glad to hear it! Honestly there isn’t a whole heck of a lot to “brush up”on. Best advice I can offer is take it one day at a time and just know that the journey is LONG but 100% worth it!

Guys getting ready to go to WOCS soon, any advice? ive heard if you just shut up and color and do everything your told you can make it just fine. Dont expect a walk in the park but its not anything crazy, that true? just looking for some sound advice, what is the fail rate like? did a lot of candidates from your class wash out?

Hey guys, thank you for making these videos. I've done a lot of digging and you have been by far the most helpful tool in gaining knowledge in this area. After reading through the USRAREC site on how to join via street to seat, I noticed the max height restriction set at 76 inches. I just turned 30 and sit at 79.2 inches (6'6"). Before I move forward, i'd like to know if you think this would be an issue for me or not. I can't seem to find any clarification on if a waiver would be available or necessary. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Quibly 21 it should be a none issue. I (the one in the sound city shirt) am 6’4 and was told I was too tall for OH-58 Kiowa which the Army has since got rid of for all intensive purposes. I have met a few out here that are taller than I am, and while some aircraft may be a tight fit, it should not inhibit your abilities.

Great video! I watched your 3 part video on the application process, and I think the easiest way to make my question short, would be to ask if being prior aircrew would be an advantage to use? I'm currently a C17 loadmaster with a combat deployment under my belt, and loads of combat flight hours. On top of that, would already having gone to Air Force basic training negate the need to go to Army basic (I'm not even sure if that is a requirement for WO)? Also, having already gone to AF SERE, would I still be required to go to Army SERE? Not really trying to go through that again, but of course I'd do it again to be pilot.

All sister services transfers must go through full Army BCT. Prior service Army with more than 3 years break used to have to do the full BCT cycle, too. Changed recently. Unlikely that you get pulled out of the normal training pipeline for such a short school like SERE, but who knows.

How does this affect guard pilots?

Do you know a Danny Deardorff? He should be a 1LT. And he’s in Apache flight school.

My WOFT packet is complete and I'm on the November board. You guys have been a HUGE help to me, so thank you. If everything works out, I'm very interested in the fixed wing stuff. I know that slots are very limited, and usually go quickly. But can you elaborate a bit more on how to secure a fixed wing slot if I wind up getting selected?

Gentlemen, I’m an active duty marine, and I’m dead set on going this route. I got into contact with a warrant officer recruiter, the only problem is, I only have 11 months left active duty. Word is, I either have to extend which is very unlikely to happen, or I have to EAS completely and go through the WOFT. I’m wondering if getting out completely and going through the WOFT will make me any less competitive. The only information I’ve really been able to find consists of your videos, I’m really thankful I found them.

Texas Shooter alright so from what I have heard (not verified information) the difference between being active and crossing over and coming from no longer being active is just a difference in which selection pool you are competing. Your current service will help regardless. The fact is, the Army still need pilots. So if you have the GT score, do well on your SIFT, and put together a decent packet, the odds are in your favor. It’s true that most inquiries that the recruiters deal with are for the 153A MOS. But do not let that discourage you as I have also been told by many in the branch that most interested in the program will fail to finish the application packet because it is extensive. Hope that helps a little.

First off, thank you so much for the videos. A lot of the people I have asked about the WOFT program are not reliable because they just perpetuate rumors they've heard. Being an active duty army applicant, where would I go to find a senior warrant officer to reccomend me? Do I just go down to the airfield and start hunting down CW4s and 5s?

Hey guys, I'm currently in to process of creating my WOFT application packet. Haven't done my flight medical yet as i recently had lasik. That'll come in late october, so I'm kind of at hold right now. As im trying to figure everything out, I'm kind of curious about your tattoo sleeve, WO Foxberry (i apologize if that's not your actual name. I don't recall hearing your names, but saw "Foxberry" and "Bennet" on your shirts in your sift videos). Anyway, i currently got a tattoo since i met with my recruiter and tried to make sure with the recruiter that it sits within the Army's tattoo regulations. I was told that 2" above the wrist bone and 1" below the mid-elbow line falls in line with the regs. After getting the tattoo, I measured the tattoo and found it within that 1" below the elbow limit. So after looking up some forums, I've seen many responses to that. One of which includes "the wearer's hand must be able to cover the tattoo". After trying that, there are small portions that are still visible. Would i need to get a waiver for that? Tattoo laser removal surgery? I just ask because WO Foxberry's full sleeve tattoo. Any response is appreciated.

Since I can’t see the tattoo, all I can say is you’ll probably be fine as long as it’s not affiliated. Tattoo policies have got much more lax over the years, but you’ll have a lot of paperwork to fill out describing the meaning of your tats. You were close, it’s Roxberry and Bennett haha... best of luck to you.

Sup guys I really love your videos they have a ton of info, but I just wanted to ask, as married sergeant in the army, how hard is it on your family. I know you said it’s tough and I know to progress you need to sacrifice but I just want to know if it’s like super stressful like a deployment would be or does it depend on how you and your family make it? I’ve heard your family can move with you while in flight training is that true? So any advice or insight would be great! Thanks guys keep it up!

Carlos De la rosa yes, it’s very time consuming, and can present challenges to the family life. But it is also true that going to flight school is considered a PCS due to the length of training. So your family can move with you to Fort Rucker. In fact, most of the married students in flight training have their families here with them.

Iam currently active navy as an aviation machinist mate (AD) for about 10 years now. The videos have been great so far on the insight. My question for you is do you have to have a the 1306/7 for conditional release before you can start anything? Also for the Navy guys did you have to do a board like the street to seat people? So I did the 1306/7 conditional release to get the orders from NAVPERS to basically show the CO he could sign my DD365 which is what the Army uses. In order to take the SIFT you will have to have the DD365 and in order to get your flight physical, you’ll need to pass the SIFT first. I did not have to go through a board, but the LOR from the Senior Flight Warrant is basically an interview, as he will be endorsing you.

So I’m a active 75th RR guy with my tab as a E4 I’ve also deployed to Iraq too. I’m currently a FO trying to get my JTAC qualification. I’ve been wanting to be a pilot since I joined but never knew how to but luckily y’all helped with that. I was wondering what schools or if there’s anything that would make me look good like air assault or pathfinder that I should do before doing the process to become a pilot?

How did you get fixed wing? We’re you top of your class?

Do the LORs need to be from army pilots? I was prior service in the marines in aviation and can easily get recommendations from majors and higher but I’m not sure if it carries any weight in the army

Brass carries wait regardless. But, there is a required LOR from a Senior Army Warrant (CWO3 or above) that must endorse you.

Thanks for the videos. I am doing blue to green as well. I've been through 2 recruits already that helped me for a week then stop contacting me. Do you have any suggestions for recruiters to talk to? I'm still super motivated and can't wait to make it to fort Rucker!

Logan E you really want to make sure that you go on the usarec website and look up your regional Warrant Officer recruiter and give them a call! If you haven’t done that already. They will be the most up to date on any changes in the application process and most helpful. Whenever you do call the, however make sure that you already have you specific questions, and ensure you have done your due diligence to trying to find the answer to your question. Warrant Officer recruiters work an entire region as oppose to a school district or area like your typical recruiters.

That’s all platform and mission specific. Some aircraft like C-12s burn holes in the sky all day. Something like the 64... with its maintenance record... good luck.

How does the process work with becoming an Apache pilot in the guard?

For the prior Navy experience, how many months prior to EAOS did the Navy release you? How many months did it take start to finish from leaving the navy to graduating pilot school?

I left the Navy about a year and a half to two years after re-enlisting. From the day I left the Navy to the day I graduated flight school for the Army was approaching 21 months. But I had some long hold times. So it would not be unrealistic to expect your training period to be a few months shorter.

Here’s your update, MEPs is backed up, and due to poor retention all contracts are 10 years minimum

I’m 32 years old with currently 12 years active duty Navy. I know I’ll need to submit a time in service waiver along with an age waiver since I haven’t fully gotten started yet. Question is, what do you feel my chances are with my time in service and age? Know of any other guys with my time in/age that got selected? I worked on F-18’s for 7 years before cross rating to my current job due to my other one being overmanned. Flying has always been my dream. Any gouge would be awesome! Thanks for your vids, guys.

Hi guys. Question who holds Civilian Helicopter Licenses, needs to do SIFT ?

So I am one of those that doesn't have 20/20 vision without glasses or contacts. I am a prior service Marine and I am looking forward to this process. Are non 20/20 candidates/ WO in flight training able to use glasses/contacts? One of the things I've been considering was getting LASIK now prior to even submitting my package. Now is it a bad idea to get corrective eye surgery/LASIK prior to doing this whole process, going to WOCS, WOBC, WOFT ect.? Would it be recommended to hold off on it and have it done later once a pilot already? I know in your other videos it said LASIK can be disqualifying but it wasn't too clear. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated!

Better late than never with this information. I can only speak to my situation but the physical will not be approved at the state level until LASIK is completed and I a candidate has 20/20 or better without corrective contacts or glasses.

Soooo, I saw Lasik can be a disqualifying. How about no correction, but you do have to wear contacts? Or don't have to have 20/20 uncorrected for no waivers/problems?

Ok guys, prior service 4 years Marine Corps, I've been out for 3 years, just getting my business portrait and LORs and essay ready. My recruiter is telling me that if by the time I get accepted I've been out for 4 years I will have to go back to basic training......but I'm "street to seat"...I'm a little confused if this guy is trying to get me to be enlisted and waste 5 years as you mentioned or what (I've dealt with recruiters already, like you said, they need numbers). Is it possible to go straight into WOCS for WOFT WITHOUT going back to basic training?

Luke Moore it is possible to get there and not have to go back to basic training and the Marines are typically the ones that don’t have to redo basic sense they cover a lot of combat oriented training in their basic as well. However, there is information in the usarec website that will state what the stipulations are to be able to bypass having to go back to basic. In this case I do not believe it’s a sucker play by your recruiter. I believe he is covering his base and actually trying to be very honest with you in that there is that possibility. When I came in I was Navy and went through the Army basic training and maintained my rank as well as NCO status so therefore I was allotted special privileges at Army basic. It will in the end be up to the instruction which I don’t have on hand but hope that this provides at least a little incite.

Hey guys awesome video! I have a silly question. I get motion sickness sitting passenger in a bird, and sometimes in a car while driving passenger (rare)...i was wondering if being in control of the bird would overcome my motion sickness, rather than sitting passenger.

Maybe, but you're not always going to be in control of the aircraft you're flying in, either. You'll have to sit as passenger for your stick buddy, and you'll also be passenger on many other flights throughout your career.

What is the percentage of straight out of college people in the WOFT?

Can you provide any insight on Comissioned officers being pilots? Recently heard that it’s possible, all this time I thought it was all warrant officers. While going through these different training schools, do you still get pass on the weekends and holidays or is training 7 days a week? Can you still use your phone on weekends for communication or do you need to write snail mail to the wife and kids?

Commissioned officers can be pilots yes. It all depends on what you want though. Flight time dramatically decreases the higher your rank, typically. Warrants fly their entire careers. I’ve seen commissioned officers forfeit their commission to go warrant and Warrants move to the RLO ranks after obtaining their degree (far less common though). It’s completely dependent on the individual and what you decide is best for you.

And no, it’s a 5 day work week like any other job AFTER WOCS. Obviously during WOCS you are in a training course that is “boot camp like” but with A LOT more attention to detail.

Thanks so much for the info. I'm also enlisted Navy trying to find the instruction for going "blue to green." I can only find a NAVADMIN from 2009. Is there any instruction that's more up to date? Thanks!

StaleTV I'm currently in the US Army and normally when we are in a classroom environment you're only allowed to bring water and maybe hard candy depending on the instructor.

Just wondering are either of you guys married or have children and if so is your family with you during the entire training process or did they stay back home while you finish everything. Thanks for the vids.

Wyatt Rutherford the chances are hard to really say for sure. From what I have seen, there has been a bit more fixed wing slots offered in recent selection than there typically has been in the past. This however is not to say that it will stay that way. Unfortunately you won’t know any real numbers till the day of selection and even then there are more factors involved like the OML, and class demographics. By that I mean, what do the other people in your class want? I’ve seen fixed wing go #1 and last in the same selection, I’ve also seen fixed wing disappear after the first three picks. I will say by the time you get there you will have a fairly good idea of what is getting picked and when once they reveal what is available. But if I had to give a number I’d say average from what I have seen is roughly 2-4 slots per selection.

So I’m already AD Army and I’m working on a packet. I was a little confused on yalls brief for SERE. Was it fun or hard? Lol. And the airframes are chosen by top students and down the list? I was a little confused on how choosing your airframe was explained. I want Blackhawks. Or at least it’s my goal if I make it there.

Travis Teal selection is done by ranking, the Army gives your class the the aircraft that it needs filled. For example if your have 12 AD Warrants due to select the Army may say we have 3 hawks; 3 Apaches, chinooks, and 3 C-12s. The number one ranked student then goes up and erases one of those off the board and selects that aircraft, the the number 2 ranked student and so on. It has happened though where the Army needed 12 Apache pilots or 12 Blackhawk pilots and everyone in that selection ended up with same aircraft. So that’s why we say it’s based off your performance and the needs of the Army at the time of your selection.

Active duty navy here. Currently have 6 1/2 years of service. I was reading that now active duty Air Force and navy have to go to BCT first was that the case for you and is that even true

I'm sure a lot of people will chuckle at this question, but what's the food situation? Could I easily enough eat a plant based diet? I imagine there's fruits and vegetables in the chow hall during all of this training, am I wrong? Are you ever just given food with no choice on what it is? I know certain religious types can request a Kosher meal. Could one request a vegan meal? Yeah, yeah, I'm interested in joining the US military as a vegan and that's kind of hypocritical, but anyways... I appreciate the videos!

Is it possible to get a contract for warrant officer and flight school from a prior service recruiter? I've got a year left in the Corps, and I'm considering a change of career. Flying rotar wing is something that really has peaked my interest.

I was in Gold Flight graduated Oct 1987. 3/498 Medevac Ft Stewart, Georgia, UH-1H Platoon, Operation Desert Shield and Storm. If I can do it, anybody can!!! Don't let these guys fool you. Attack helicopters is extremely boring. Fly fast to a point. Shoot at targets and fly fast back to the rear. Utility helicopters are a lot more interesting. Many more types of missions. I was an e-5 during the entire course. Now they are warrant officers after WOCS. Fixed wing right out of flight school?

and is there any benefits if i get a pilots licence before i apply as a warrant officer?

Immensely. Having a PPL, fixed or rotary, looks great for the board. Some people literally just cant handle being a pilot. You're showing the board you can.

In a sense, yes. It’s based of placement in your class however. They have changed it slightly from “Selection Day” to “Reveal Day”. The only difference being that you put in your top three in rank order ahead of time. If you’re number one in your class it will dramatically increase your chances of getting exactly what you want. It used to be they would write what was available on a white board, and call out the names in rank order, then once they called your name you’d walk up and erase one of the available aircraft off the board and so on.

Having a degree and ROTC looks good, but it also raises questions of why you went through ROTC and didn’t get set into a branch. Typically going through ROTC means you were already slated to go into a branch, but you got out somehow. Whether it be removal or DOR

This probably a crazy question but can you attend WOCS/WOFT with braces. I cannot find any info on this. Thanks

so i am 14, and have dreamed to fly helicopters my whole life. I feel like i'm overthinking this but is there anything i can do to get started early

I would start participating in sports. Gain that physical fitness along with the leadership potential that comes along with that. Be a good person. Helping others will help youself become a better individual. For example community serivce, food bank, animal shelters, retirement homes etc. And final is reach out. Contact a recruiter. Be very clear what you want to do. Do not accept anything less that a helicopter piliot. There is a program called "high school to flight school" that would allow you to get after it as soon as possible. Reach out to a local aviation unit. They have aviation pages on facebook. Reach out and interview some pilots. Do the leg work/research to reach out, they will see that and treat you accordingly. Good luck. Never accept defeat. Do not quit.

You can start flying small planes. You can solo at 16, and get your pilot's license at 17, apply while in high school. Looking committed like that would look great.

Daniel Bigelow I can’t give you a specific number or timeframe on this one as neither I or my street to seat counterpart took that route. I will say however, once you are enlisted it will be dependent on a signed conditional release by your commander. So if I were to guess, you’d probably have to wait long enough for them to believe you have fulfilled enough of your service obligation before they would sign off on you moving on to other things. It will also become based on your work performance. So if you choose to go that route, just understand you will first complete Basic Training, then AIT, then will go to a unit and be tested and evaluated, then they will have to allow you to apply, and then you will begin the packet, which on average takes roughly 6 months to complete if you are also working. But if that is the best avenue for you do to whatever circumstances, and your still young, then by all means we wish you the best and will try to help the best we can in the future.

The syllabus has been cut almost in half since I went through in the Eighties. We didn't do any of that non-flying BS and we went all through as Warrant Officer Candidates. The new system kinda sucks...

@@caseyfitz2136 5% of the army's airframes are fixed. The chances of you even being eligible to CHOOSE fixed wing are small, let alone being forced.

Fixed wing, did you want the C12? Not to sound ungrateful but fuuuuuck that. Id be so bummed to go through everything only to get stuck in a c12 I know some really want it though.

The C12 is a great platform if you’re looking to build some fixed wing time for airlines. Most major airlines do not credit rotary time. The only major airline that I know of who credits rotary time is Delta. However, if your sole purpose and dream is to fly a rotary then the C12 could be a bummer.
