Wobbling Issue and Solution and Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650

Finally. After months of trying and documenting, I've finally managed to find solutions to this 'wobbling of front tyre' for the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650.
I've tried to cover all the possible solutions that can help solve it. If there are anymore solutions beside these then please do let me know, I will cover those in the future videos.
I would like to point out that the issue could be solved by just changing the tyres.
(solution 5) However if you are have installed new rubbers and are still facing this issue, then you might want to try the other solutions.
The tyres that I have are dual compound and are from the brand Timsun.
I got them from Torque Block.
torqueblock.com
Tyre Profile
Front - 100/90/18 and Rear 150/70/18 (this is how it should have come from the factory in my opinion)
I'd like to thank ‪@speedmonksperformancecentr4332‬ for helping me with the installation.
If you enjoyed this video, please consider subscribing and giving it a thumbs up. It really helps to grow the channel. Do let me know what you think about this I respond to every comment.

    I own a 2019 RE Interceptor, one of the earliest models since its launch in Nov 2018. Purchased in Jan 2019, it initially had a wobbling issue above 100 kmph. Surprisingly, a simple fix resolved it. A puncture led me to a local tyre shop, where I discovered the tube was incorrect for an 18-inch rim, likely intended for a Honda Unicorn or Shine. Changing to the correct size tube eradicated the wobble, even at speeds of 160 kmph. Check your front tube size - it should be 100/90/18.

    Thank you so much for sharing this valuable feedback. The Interceptor 650 now comes with Ceat Tyres, but they are not tubeless. Otherwise I’d have gone with them only. Sad that people at RE showrooms will not look into this as their main goal is always going to be sales. Best to write to RE directly and sharing video feedback. I’ll try this once and address this issue.

    Questions come to mind: 1) Did you check the balance of both wheels? The tires might have had uneven mass distribution, which manifested in a wobble as the rubber gradually wore down. 2) Did you check the lateral runout of both wheels with a dial indicator? The tire may have gotten distorted with wear, or the rims may have gone non-planar or non-perpendicular with the axis of rotation. 3) Did you check the radial runout of both wheels with a dial indicator? The over-tightening of a spoke points to this having been a problem the mechanic found. 4) Was the steering quicker when you went to tubeless tires?

    @@SrinivasGanesh - Your mention of an Outex tubeless conversion is the 1st report (in English) that I've seen. Do you recall what the immediate effect was on the steering? Don't ask me why i did that i am new to motorcycles(clueless) and this is a common and popular mod amongst the twin riders here in Thailand so I went along with it. Lol. Good thing is, it turned out good(beginner's luck lol). Bike feels more eager to lean and those mt60rs give me alot more confidence than the stock pirellis. Wobbling went away like magic. Thank God. The stance of the bike changed a little. More aggressive now imho. Total damage was less than 500 dollars all in. 1 rim, tyres front and rear and balancing, alignment. It was alot of work. Problems? No problems, slight wider rear tyre meaning more contact patch on the road for better traction. It is very much safe to do so. It sits comfortably between the sprocket and the swing arm. Fuel consumption remains unchanged at 24-25 kmpl in city under ideal conditions. I’m not that enthusiastic in reaching top speed. I whole heartedly believe in cruising at under 120 kmph. I recently experienced wobbling on my almost new (2000 kms clocked a few days back). This has never happened while riding with a pillion and I have carefully tested it at 60,80 and 100 kmph. On our recent trip (myself, same pillion and around 30kg of luggage), I noticed wobbling at 80kmph and haven't been able to understand the reason. As we are back now, I am yet to try out again and see if the wobbling still exists (with the pillion but without the luggage). A little context before I ask you this... Could the luggage be the reason for wobbling?

  • @SrinivasGanesh

    @SrinivasGanesh

    2 жыл бұрын

    There could be one of the reasons that I point out in the video, could be because of the unevenness of the road as well. Luggage could be a reason as well, that is only if they were not balanced, or weighed differently on either sides. Please keep us posted if you were able to find the reason.

    La solución a ese problemas es ajustar la tuerca de dirección lo que no es fácil ya que si te pasas ajustando puedes crear otro problemas, lo mejor es hacerlo revisar con alguien de confianza y que conozca como hacerlo o animarse a hacerlo uno mismo, a groso modo con la rueda delantera en el aire tirando el manubrio desde el centro al costado la dirección deveria tener cierta resistencia, no caer libre, en esa resistencia esta el punto y el cambio en la estabilidad ajustandola bien es notable

    Gracias por tu valioso comentario. Hice revisar la tuerca de dirección, resultó estar bien. Este problema es específico de solo un lote selecto de Interceotors BS6 que tenían pirelli phantom sport como neumáticos OEM. Este lote salió entre principios de 2020 y mediados de 2021. Y ese problema son los neumáticos. Algo raro y malo en este lote de llantas pirelli. Por lo tanto, Royal Enfield ahora lo ha cambiado a Ceat Tyres. Estos neumáticos ahora son de cámara. Pero como he instalado un kit outex, prefiero ir con un neumático sin cámara. Por lo tanto, fui con Timsun. No es tan caro como Pirelli Scorpions, pero tampoco es barato. Gracias otra vez. ¡Deseo que tengas un hermoso fin de semana!

    Hi Sri. Great video. A few comments and questions I had: 1. 17 inch front alloys isn't feasible because of brake calipers and disc mismatch anyway. Did some research on it. 2. Can you please specify the required tyre pressures for these. 3. When we change the tyre size, do we need some adjustments in suspension setup too? 4. Outex is a bit expensive, what are your thoughts on way2speed conversion kit? 5. If we get the conversation kit, how can we assure that we don't face the air deflation issue? Would love your response on these. Thanks.

  • @SrinivasGanesh

    @SrinivasGanesh

    Жыл бұрын

    Required tyre pressure as stated on timsun website is 40 front 40 rear. But I use 39 in front. I don't believe any adjustment is required in suspension, unless ofcourse you are planning on touring with luggage. Way2Speed is okay, I just don't really think that it is levelled enough, but it is surely good. Outex was a personal preference. Nothing wrong with way2speed. you won't face air deflation issue at all, unless you take it a local mechanic, don't tell him you have outex installed and ask him to tighten the spokes. The spokes will then disrupt the tape on the inside, you wheel, however now balanced, will be leaking air that you won't even know about. And that is what I have talked about in this video.

    Hi, the 6th thing would have been re-grease and re-torque the trailing arm bearings. Another thing would be upgrade the rear shock absorbers. There have been motorcycles manufactured where the rear of the bike would wag the front. Hope you wobble stays cured.

    Does the rear rim need to be swapped for the 150 section tyre?

    Nope. It does not. Unless you opt to go for a different rim size.

    Hello Sri Ji, I'm planning to get both my tyres changed, I would like to know : 1.If going to 150 rear tyre from 130 changes the acceleration in any way 2. Do you see any difference when there are twisties and you're leaning around corners? 3. Can these do off road to some extent?

    Changing the tyres from 130 to 150 section does not affect the acceleration. They performed well in little off-roading. Though I must tell you something that you probably know already. This motorcycle is not meant to be ridden off-road. It’s a road/ city bike. Lets talk off-road touring - Interceptor 650 kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z2GKw5mph5bWaZc.html There’s an entire series on me off-roading with this motorcycle in Spiti. Do check it out.

    I Feel for you Srinivas. Bikes can be as fickle as children and wives. You had me after you said (1:08) " ...because I drive sensibly and normally"... WHAM. Honestly, you are a far better comedian than a mechanic ;)

    Hahahaha that WHAM was my mistake about two years ago. First accident on the motorcycle. Though a small one, but taught me an important lesson to be always vigilant!

    Will a steering damper solve this issue regardless of the other fixes?

  • @SrinivasGanesh

    @SrinivasGanesh

    The wobbling, in my motorcycle, was due to tyre manufacturing defect. Hence upon changing that, the wobbling was gone. Steering damper won’t be able to reduce wobbling if it is caused by bad tyres.

    @@SrinivasGanesh but can it prevent the wobble becoming a full on tank slapper? Why do high end bikes use it then?
