The line "Wir sind veloren" (We are lost), really strikes me, as the German units defending the Reichstag were surrounded, and no choice but to fight, many couldn't even surrender, as they were Schutzstaffel, who were to be executed by the Soviets. Largely made up of the foreign legions, French, Danish, and Norwegians,. And so the men there had to go down with as many kills as they could.

Reichstag was not defended by foregin soldiers , french ss and others were tasked to defend reich chancellery , and area of brandenburg gate . Reichstag was defended by hitler personal troops , LSAAH troops and marines units along with some paratroopers.

How they sang it, is badass but the lyrics is enough to make a dying brave soldier in a battlefield cry.

But at least have researched about why he couldn't get to study in Austria's artschool (i think it was Vienna's artschool if I remember correctly) and the reasons were actually acceptable, he was simply a structural artist and had very good passion on that ; and actually normal people can't even think drawing his arts . What he lacked was , rationality and intention and interest in drawing people and their faces and bodies , as I know . Although it might come as a strict rule for the artschool , but he tried about 3 times to get himself study in there and relieved the problems they had said that he had with the paintings , but Vienna's AS principles didn't accept him .

@@imtired9395 That usually never happens. just look at history, you can hope for it, or you can strive for it. the "good guys" in reality did not exist in either of the world wars. these were wars between industrial nations that were trying to figure out their belief system in an age where they had forsaken God. so the Germans went with a "Fuhrer" as a replacement, the Italians "the state" the Russians went for the "Soviet" and the Allies settled on "Democracy" and all of these belief systems had failed their followers. young men will throw themselves at almost anything as we naturally have a rush to want to kill and get killed that older people do not have, yet in an age of the Machine, it gets rather hard to find something worthwhile to get yourself killed for.

They didn’t defend the Reichstag but rather the Führerbunker. Most of the men who defended the Reichstag specifically that were SS were apart of the LSSAH commanded by Obersturmführer Gerhard Babick, the rest who defended alongside them at the Reichstag were Volksstrum, Wehrmacht, and Fallschirmjägers.

What are you on about? The defense of the Reichstag was one of the most brutal and hard-fought defenses in the war. It was more a less fought till the last bullet took every soldiers life... the remaining members of SS Nordland and Charlemagne stayed to defend whilst everyone else ran to get captured by the British or US, they clung on grimly to every mound of rubble, by the end more than 90% of the unit had been killed and the 60 odd that surrendered at the end only did so because they were so badly wounded they were physically incapable of resistance/fighting. And this division of the SS was a foreign legion, so for SS Nordland was almost exclusively conscripts and volunteers from Hungary, and Charlemagne was basically all French and they fought till the last man for another nation.

@@agelessrebellion8271 I was talking about the final battle for berlin and the Reichstag (Ie. final 4-5 days) not the early stages of the defense, however, I would be happy to hear any info u have on those fighters. Not something there seems to be much on.
