The HUGE difference right now with the Magic and Bird comparison is that people actually cared about basketball and not one player. They cared about the NBA and wanted to see it grow. People like Stephen a. Smith probably won't say this out loud but they only care about Caitlin Clark but could care less about the rest of the WNBA. Until that changes nothing will, it's sad but true.

Like imagine Simone Biles in all her popularity and greatness… let’s pretend she wasn’t the best and didn’t qualify to get a spot on the team; there’s no way she would be heading to France to represent the United States in the Olympics… but it’s because she performs at a high level of greatness that she’s going to France to represent us, regardless of her popularity… CC will be great soon, but she’s not one of the best yet… However, I’m pretty sure four years from now, not only will she have gotten stronger and adapted to the physicality of the game, but she can truly show her skill and talent on the court in a way where she’ll not only make her Olympic debut on the 2028 team, but even better, it’s in Los Angeles.

I somewhat agree. I am more focused on calling bullshit on the reasoning for the team US selection committee not having her or Arike on the team. Arike is out here putting up 24/6/5, and they left her off the team for the same reason; THE OLDER PLAYERS DONT LIKE THEM!

  • @FSamuels20

Is Simone biles even popular without being great enough to the Olympics in the first place? Olivia Dunne is one of the faces of the NIL game and she’s not in the Olympics and people don’t care. I think being able to pick the basketball teams call for more attention versus a player not being great enough to qualify for the gymnastics and track and field team

Right now, the other players are just annoying, clamoring for attention, and all this passive-aggressive complaining crap. I agree with this take 100%. And they keep trying to push the “well yall are new here” narrative, we don’t give a fk. Caitlin Clark, angel reese and the rookie class in general brought us here as a carry over from the lit women college basketball version of March madness. I also think the whole viewership has been growing argument is disingenuous. Viewership has been SHT the last few years then it became a little less sht. It obviously jumped this year but again because the rookie class. The whole “this was gonna happen anyway” argument is again trash. Instead of having a “rising tides lift all ships” mentality it’s all this catty look at me bullsht. Why we ain’t watch in the first place.

Day 1 of me asking. I actually have a question for Melo and I hope it makes next week's show. I coach on the EYBL circuit, so I've been able to see a lot of talent. Outside of Team Melo kids, are there any other kids on that circuit that you think just have "IT" or you really enjoy watching? If so, do you care to name who?

Sam Cassell is definitely more experience in coaching in the comparison to JJ not being part of a college coaching or college assistant coaching, or NBA assistant coach or head coach in the NBA. Sam Cassell is a 3 times NBA Champion, been assistant NBA Coach, had great tutelage under various coaches on NBA Teams. Opinion

@35:00, I believe that Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum can reverse roles, but only if they have the mindset to do it. Joe Dumars and Isiah Thomas flipped, with Dumars getting one MVP, and Thomas getting the other.

You have to earn your way no matter what you do for a living. The growing of WBB has been as a result of college! When you move into the professional level, you have to learn like you did when you were a freshman. I am a Reese fan, but I’m watching other games almost nightly. Now if the games were easier to find and they were not scheduling games at the same time… maybe more people would watch and keep watching.

I'm seeing Monica more than ever! It's not a bad thing at all, but why does she criticize people who say the WNBA is failing for not doing the same thing with Caitlin Clark? It doesn't make sense not to capitalize on your star. I don't care how many championships the other players win; they aren't stars. The people decide-that's how it goes. Mike Tyson was the people's champ; Holyfield beat him but never received the love Iron Mike did.

This is why people prefer male leadership than female leadership. The WNBA is a business that needs to grow. Sacrifices have to be made. Yes it would be unfair to put CC on the team above some of those other ladies but it’s a necessary sacrifice. If it can potentially grow the sport then do it. What if CC flames out in the next four years and misses the opportunity to have some global reach. You have to have foresight.
