WMMR 93.3 Philadelphia - Luke O'Reilly - August 27 1971 - Radio Aircheck
From the Russ Horton Collection
WMMR has been playing Rock for Philadelphia since it’s Progressive Rock days in 1968, and it continues to be Philly’s top Rock Station. For many years, there was a Rock Battle in Philly between WMMR & 94 WYSP.
This 1971 aircheck features Luke O'Reilly. Luke worked at WMMR in the early 70s. Luke was in his element in the days when you were encouraged to express your interest in the music you played, Luke's English accent sat well with the listeners in Philly. Then on a trip back to England in 1972 Luke went to an Al Stewart concert and was so taken by his performance and potential that he persuaded Al to change management - and so Luke left radio became a music manager. He later started a talent management and record production company and included artists like The Chieftains, Shot in the Dark and Joe Strummer. Luke passed away in 2017.
Herman was arrested in 2013 in St Croix, over a criminal complaint stated he expected to meet a woman and her six-year-old daughter, who he allegedly believed was being brought for an intimate encounter with him. He was charged with transportation with intent to engage in criminal activity. His attorney claimed Herman was interested in the mother, not the girl. Herman died on May 28, 2014, while awaiting his trial. He was 78.
Feel free to check out some of the many other videos on the Ellis B Feaster's Radio Channel! Established in 2008! One of You Tube's oldest RADIO AIRCHECK MUSEUM with a NEW VIDEO posted daily at 3PM EST.
After over 40 years working on the radio, I have recorded lots of my own radio air checks of ME on the air, and many of my friends as well. You'll find audio of many radio personalities who have passed away, but have passed their audio to me to share here. You'll find radio airchecks from the 1940s, through the 1990s.
We also talk about radio broadcasting. If you happen to have classic airchecks, maybe even of yourself on the air, we'd love to share it here! If you are on the radio, or do voiceovers for You Tube videos, I have tips to make your radio show or video voiceovers better!
In addition to sharing audio from my 40 years in broadcasting, we also share videos about Travel & Cruising. I share tips on how I travel cheaply, so you can do it also!

**BTW, I edit all music out of airchecks to avoid music rights issues.**

I missed out. Too young for WMMR at the time still listening to AM WFIL 56. Started listening as a teenager and haven't stopped. Gene Shay, David Dye, Nick Spitzer. Great history of broadcasters. Nick's American Routes program is awesome.

This is great thanks for posting. This is when radio announcers produced the show, not just reading one liners. Again thanks for keeping the history of radio alive.

GREAT stuff Ellis! It's great to listen to the "early" 70's era of Philly FM radio! FM radio sure changed from the early 70's to the late 70's when it started to take over Philly radio!
