The Depth workshop gave my fiction writing an enormous boost.
Depth In Writing was a game changer for me. It keeps me grounded. Highly recommend Writing Into the Dark (the book too).
I have taken a few of his workshops but Depth was the first one I took and it did change the way I wrote. It also changed the way I feel when I write, I feel as if I immerse myself deeper into the writing process.
WMG Workshops are the best of the best in the world. You owe it to yourself and your writing. If you're a reader, get Depth. You will never read another book the same way again.
For real? I have just been on the site of WMG looking at the writing in the dark workshop. Thanks for posting this, this really has me intrigued
Thanks for this video, Michael! I just got turned on to Dean Wesley Smith, and he’s totally changed how I view my writing. I was looking at the workshops, but, man, there are so, so many.
There are so many to choose from. Advanced Pacing has became my latest favorite, and Depth is always there. I keep going back to Depth again and again. There is Writing in the Dark as well.
This is so great! Glad to have found you -- and this is a great study list. Excellent! Just what I needed. Subscribing!

Great list!
Love this video, Michael. It helped me make my decision to take the Depth and Pacing workshops. I also signed up for Power Words. I was just wondering if you had any recommendations for the more attitude/mindset focused lectures/workshops. There’s so many that look good, I can’t choose one 😅
My courses: BS Biology, MBA Marketing, 15 credit hours of English, 6 credit hours of journalism. Lots & lots of term papers, business plans, advertising creative plans, etc. Paying attention to 60 TY videos on novel writing. I’ll look at WMG, sounds interesting.
The character development portion has me very intrigued. Obviously I have no idea what the workshop covers, but I feel like a lot of the online advice is too formula based - so hyper focused on the arc. I always feel like character should have more nuance than an exact, measured rise and fall.

WMG workshops give you advice you can’t find online. Trust me on that.

The whole 'character arc' thing doesn't connect with me that well. Character Development really worked well for me and I don't worry anymore the way I did by not approaching it the same way everyone else seems to.
