Here's a portion of the 6:00pm edition of Eyewitness News on WLS Channel 7, anchored by Fahey Flynn and Joel Daly, with reports from Vivian Rosenberg, Hugh Hill, Frank Mathie

This comes in during the middle of a report of charges in a welfare fraud case (reported by Vivian Rosenberg), with clips of a press conference from Cook County States Attorney Bernard Carey.
Joel reports on the following:
- Mobster Harry Aleman's bid to get out of solitary confinement
- A police raid at 4444 West Belmont in which among those arrested are former WBBM Channel 2 weatherman Tom Alderman, and the former leader of Wilderness Road and his wife; marijuana, cocaine, weapons and $20,000 cash are confiscated
- Drug related attempted murder at 3651 S. Federal where a 26-year-old man, Harvey Matthews was bound, gagged and thrown from a 5th floor window, and is stable at Michael Reese Hospital
Fahey reports on these stories:
- Robert Vogelsberg from Louisville, KY visiting Chicago robbed of $200 and other valuables at a TraveLodge motel at 1240 S. Michigan; he, his wife and daughter then check out
- Report on cost of RTA study on monthly passes for riders, with study to be done by Urban Market Research; board member Jerry Booz (sp?) is quoted as feeling "very sick" about it
- A look at how tax relief is shaping the race for Illinois Governor, with Gov. Thompson declaring Democratic opponent Michael Bakalis' property tax relief plan a "fraud," Bakalis calls Thompson's a "mirage"; Hugh Hill fleshes out the issues; both are interviewed, as is Rep. John Porter (R-Evanston)
Joel updates a story about a parking plan for Chicago's northwest side, which has run into bureaucratic snags
Fahey introduces report from Frank Mathie about an increase in the mosquito population after the recent wet weather, and more specifically the efforts of one John Clarke (and his company, Clarke Community Mosquito Control of Roselle) to take out the critters with spray trucks, helicopters and other weapons at his disposal
Fahey previews upcoming Peter Karl Target 7 report on nursing home abuses before break

Fahey introduces latest installment in Peter Karl's Target 7 report on abuses in nursing homes probed over four months by them and the Better Government Association, this part dealing with many patients who go hungry every day; a look inside the Belmont Rest Home and the Ballard Nursing Home in Des Plaines; BGA attorney Barbara Klein speaks of how meals are either misdelivered on not delivered at all; tape cuts out before interview with three nurses from Chicago Ridge Nursing Home.
This aired on local Chicago TV on Wednesday, July 19th 1978 during the 6:00pm to 7:00pm timeframe.
