Chocome is such an amazing subunit. Their name means "Shorty" and the 4 members of it are the 4 shortest members of WJSN. They are all Korean. The Black and Chocome are the only two subunits (or at least the only ones with actual songs). The two subunits certainly represent the spectrum of styles WJSN does with most songs falling somewhere in the middle. So WJSN technically has 13 members (started out at 12 and then Yeonjung of I.O.I. was added before WJSN's first comeback). 10 Korean members that are from Starship Entertainment (Sistar and Ive are other groups from them) and 3 Chinese members from Yuehua Entertainment (Everglow and Choi Yena are both from that company). The 3 Chinese members have not been active in WJSN for like 3 or 4 years now. Chocome is heavily influenced by two older groups. Orange Caramel (Hmph is more their style) and Crayon Pop (Super Yuppers is more than style). Both are known for bright and infectious songs, along with fun and goofy concepts. Orange Caramel themselves are also a sub-unit and part of the group After School. Hmph is actually an older song that was never made, but was written by one of the main writers for Orange Caramel songs. The mermaid in Hmph was a reference to Orange Caramel's Catallena. Super Yuppers includes a couple potential Crayon Pop references. First, there is the overall song is sort of in line with their song "FM" and that MV features Crayon Pop as heroes as well (though Power Range/Sailor Moon style). Also, the amusement park that they visit is the same one that appears in the Crayon Pop's "Bar Bar Bar" (and also in Dreamcatcher's Because). In one of the teaser promos, they also had an image with them wearing helmets like that is worn in "Bar Bar Bar". And yes, that was a Squid Game reference. You should check out the full dance for the song. It is super fun. BTW the dance that Yeoreum does towards the end is a cover of the Hey Mama dance from SWF (a popular dance crew competition from 2021). Despite all the Pepsi stuff, this isn't a Pepsi ad song, but Starship does have a strong partnership with them and has put out at least 1 Pepsi song every year since 2018. The first one was by WJMK which featured two members of WJSN (Seola and Luda) and two members of Weki Meki (Doyeon and Yoojung). I will say Crayon Pop does also have a bit of a Japanese vibe despite being Korean.

A correction I’d like to make, Hmph!’s demo track was already made before 2015 as the members said they’ve heard this song floating around starship’s building while they were still trainees and wondered which artist this song was made for, and hoped that it wouldn’t be given to them.

I've heard of both orange caramel and crayon pop, if I remember right they are both known for different and weird.. I need to check out their songs, even just to see the MV once. I think it's cool when group pay homage to other groups or history. I'll watch the MVs you listed and see if I can make the same connections

@@BestFriendsReact Yeah, that it pretty much what they are known for. They are certainly worth watching, but obviously not everyone's cup of tea. I however love that style and wish there was more of it currently. Thankfully there is Chocome.

WJSN Chocome reminds me of some 2nd Gen Kpop groups like Orange Caramel or Crayon Pop, bringing the FUN back to K-Pop!

WJSN / Cosmic Girls are a 13 member group made up of 10 Korean & 3 Chinese members. ( Girl Crush, Sexy, House & Female Empowerment ) ~ Potential Future Subunits: WJSN Fire & Ice / Dawon & YeonJung ( The Main Vocal Queens Unit ) 2 Members, originally appeared in 2016 on Girls Spirit whilst YeonJung was in I.O.I, they performed You Are The Best by Mamamoo , and later in the year appeared in an OST named Fire & Ice, their most recent performance was a Christmas Carol Medley that was uploaded on their channel. ~ Unoffical Units: WJSN China ( YZSN ) 3 Members, Originally was just the main group’s Chinese name for them to promote whilst in China but after the China ban on kpop, the group basically had a split, even though the 3 Chinese members have not promoted since 2018, they are still apart of the main group and are all soloists, models and actresses. ~ Lost Units: WJSN Chocome Origins ( the original Cute Unit that was planned ) Originally conceptualised to have a 6 member lineup with the current 4 Members of Chocome + members XuanYi & ChengXiao ( Bright & Cute Concept ) WJSN The Black Origins ( the original Sexy Unit that was planned ) Originally conceptualised to have a 6 member lineup with the current 4 members of The Black + Dawon & MeiQi ( Mature & Sexy Concept )

Well, k and j share culture because they are geologically close, ethically similar(same) and have influenced each other for thousands of years. But Chocome is pure kpop. They are successor of orange caramel and crayon pop. You could find some parodies in this mv.

This was def kpop paying homage to Jpop.😂 The first asian mv i saw (which I thought was kpop) was actually jpop. I was not ready for it, thought it was weird and didn't like the music. But at this point with kpop I appreciate quirky and random. Both songs were fun and I vibed with it. Although i know both of you are hoosiers this one made me think of yoopers enjoying yuppers 😂 Great reaction.

Actually this is electronic Trot song. Not any homage to any Jpop. WJSN is actually 13 girls, which three chinese members are on hiatus since 2018. They have been promoting as ten members for the last four years. They have two sub units: WJSN Chocome - small members who do quirky electronic trot pop music. WJSN The black - the actress unit who does mature and dark concepts. The videos you are watching are by WJSN Chocome.
