Very nice. My first two Jeeps were both WJs. I'll always have a soft spot for them! My last one was a 242HD swap w/ the stock vari-loks. It was a ton of fun off road.

The 247 worked fine, but I wanted manual control of the transfer case. The 242HD w/ Vari-loks was a beast of a combo!

Being able to run 2WD on the highway helped (slightly) with fuel economy. Offroad, being able to shift into 4 Part-time eliminated the gerotor pump in the 247 case as a variable, so I wasn't at the mercy of the quadra-drive system determining how much power went to what axle and when. It was a noticable but not drastic change in how she handled crawling over obstacles. Basically she could do in 4-hi what I previously had to use 4-lo for in the 247. In loose sand and snow, the 247 was probably a bit better than the 242 setup.

@@DefiantOffroad Hmm, my 247 engages pretty quickly in 4FT off-road. But I guess it's nice knowing that it won't/can't. Did you notice any difference in how the 4FT operated between the two? Is that what you mean by the 247 being better in sand/snow?

no footage of the Wranglers going over the obstacles. How did they compare?

yep. only his 3rd time off-roading. but we said the same thing lol when he breaks something and pays a tow bill home he will learn
