"Wizard" Setups

Спорт

I decided to do a comparison of the different freestyle / wizard setups.
in this video I use 2 different boots.
The Seba CJ Prime
FR1 Deluxe
and 7 different frames
Wizard PR80
NN Dragon
Kizer Element 90
Endless 90/110
Wizard NR100
NN Ronin
Endless 100/110
I spent a week at the beach trying each setup. I tried to replicate the same basic tricks to try and feel the differences between each
set up

Your perspective is valid and appreciated. Don't let not being a pro or expert take away from your opinion. I think I'd love the endless 90, seems like the perfect frame for me. Can use the 3x110 to commute some and then 4x90 for some more fun around a small space or city exploring.

endless frames are amazing. I bought a pair of powerslide next boots in june, and I just hit a plateau skating on a flat 4x90. It was nice, and stable, but I felt like I will never make desired progress. I just felt clumsy (becuase I am). Then I got a pair of endless frames, as back in the day I think they were the only aftermarket frames available. And boy oh boy, did they change the game! That tiny bit of rocker just invites you to do all sorts of swively moves, spin, rotate, slide. It does wonders, and without even knowing you end up becoming floamboyant AF! All of a sudden I've discovered lightness in my feet that I thought ill never be able to achieve. Greatly motivating, to just do more fun stuff, and explore the unknown terrirtory. A word on a rocker though: I am not sure but they do seem somewhat like wizards, in a way that 3rd wheel is a bit lower than all the other ones. Its a very small difference, when you compare it against flat surface, it seems to be possible to rest the entiore wright on just this single wheel, but perhaps its just they way my wheels have worn... There are no data sheets available. Anyhow, endless was my entry into the wizard realm, with FR releasing a UFS model of their FR boots (the Anthony Pottier signature edition), I may soon be a very happy owner of a neat little setupid with 5x80 on nn skates frame. Hopefully that happens and I find my little skating heaven! I highly encourage you guys give wizard a try, you may just discover something that will change the way you look at rollerblading!

Thank you, great video! You're right - the differences of those setups are rather small. I wonder how much your rating was influenced by wheel choice? I started off with a PR76 with 76mm/84a FR Street Invaders and fell in love with this setup. The rocker is great and the wheels have a great grip and behave very predictable in a slide. Next I went for NR100 since those are the 'true' Wizard frames and I thought I could add a little speed to my flatland rides. On those I initially went with Rollerblade Hydrogen Pro 100mm/Firm with 84a hardness as well. Unfortunately these wheels are too soft that I had the feel that even me with my 85kg (187lbs) was flatting out the rocker that always 3 of the 4 wheels were touching the ground. So those wheels were indeed able to provide similar ride comfort and mind blowing grip but failed to be wizardy agile. After switching to Undercover Endless 100mm/85a the agility of the setup was greatly improved. Now I noted that you too have different wheels with different hardness in your setups. Would be great if you may elaborate a bit more on the topic of wheel choice to the wizard style of skating?

Yea I'm in a similar situation, allthough my feet are 10mm longer. Most people suggest going for 100s as they're super fun. Granted I have long legs, but I'm just afraid crossovers will be tough. But man, the added front/back stability and bigger wheels just makes me want to go to 100mm right away. From 80 to 90 just doesn't seem like a big enough jump to warrant the big purchase, considering you have to get wheels as well.

  • @InlineDistrict

    @InlineDistrict

    2 жыл бұрын

It really depends of your foot size... my feet are 285mm and 4x90 is awesome but with a rocker it can feel a bit unstable at times... If I'm riding 4x90 I prefer it to be flat. 4x100 is perfect for me when it comes to a rockered set up, there is plenty of length to keep you stable while shifting your weight around. Again it all really depends on the size of your feet

  • @AdventuresThroughTheMind

@@InlineDistrict cool. I am about 290mm in foot size. I wore and rotated my 4x80 wheels (frx flat set up) into a "balanced" rocker at one point and it was fun and got me wanting a wizard set up., but pretty unstable for free skating. I was leaning towards to nn ronin 4x100, but since it won't be on a flat boot set up, I am worried it will feel too high. And also wondered if the extra length/hieght compared to my 4x80 would throw me off too much. Nonetheless, thanks for your perspective! It's very helpful :)

I am riding the Kizer element 90s as well and i can also tell, they are great, the 1mm rocker is directly noticable, which makes them so fantastic to start and learn the wizard moves, cause the rocker is a bit stronger then on the wizards. Especially when you come from a flat Setup (like me), you just directly feel like, "oh yeah thats it!", finally i am free, able to turn easily, without the need to drive into a curve and then go on my tiptoes to turn. I think you all know what i mean 😉. Boot size EU 43, UK 9 works good with the kizer 90s for me, the Frame is long enough so that i have a good Stability. Which is exactly why big wheels are so great! The longer the base the better the Stability. Falling gets more difficult and "stirring" with your hands in the Air, Ends. My Wet Dream? What I want to know is how does 5x80 vs 4x100 vs 3x125 compare with similar wheelbases, all rockered, and for like 70/30 or 60/40 freestyle slalom bias as opposed to pure wizard skating. I like how slalom is more pop-dancy than wizard's smooth flowy thing. I'm asking because I want to get into skating and need something that'll work good for both styles (IE not too long a frame that it messes up the slalom crossovers and such, but can still do all the 3 shapes well) as well as general urban cruising/fitness with indoor roller rink usability, too.

Very good video! Don't think you are not qualified to make this video. Most people watching this video will probably be on a similar level to you or just starting out and your point of view and thoughts will probably be very relevant to them compared to someone who has been doing this for years. I don't know if you've read up on the frames more now but the PR80 and the NN dragons both have the middle wheel as the furthest wheel down.

I haven't seen any thing showing the rocker layout on the PR80 but the NN website shows that the 4th wheel is the lowest on the Dragon (at least it is on the V.m frame)

So… if you could select one for longer distant riding, yet doing tricks at the same time, what would that set up be?? That’s my style and I only run a flat set up. Wanting real bad to get into a rockered set up!

@@InlineDistrict BTW, have you ever tried the Rockin' Mix4 100/90mm? It's a frame designed especially for SSM mounting in a way that the combination of the bigger 100mm wheels are filling in the gap left by the higher heel mounting system at front and heel. Unique design, a mix of 4x90 and 4x100. I would love to try that one in the future for sure. Would love to see your review on those! :)
