The typical ignorant internet-comment... Well, I guess it depends on which definition of irrational numbers you are using, but in general, i is not irrational. Being rational or irrational applies to real numbers. If z=a+ib, then it can be applied to a and b respectively, but not to z itself. (Although, if you are interested, check out gaussian integers.) TL;DR Being not rational ≠ irrational. Being real and not rational = irrational.

Is it bad that my initial reaction was How Many children for Weasley? Do you mean Arthur/Molly -7 kids - or Ron/Hermione - 2 kids-?
@Becausebooks1234
8 жыл бұрын
It's Bill Charlie Percy Fred + George Ron Ginny And then Ginny and Harry had 3 kids: James Albus Lily (godchild: Teddy Lupin) And Ron and Hermione had 2 kids: Rose Hugo Percy and Audrey had 2 (?) kids: Lucy Molly II Bill and Fleur: Victiore Dominique Louis George and Angelina: Roxanne Fred II Charlie's single and Fred is (spoiler) dead.

I know that it reads as "the second" (Especially since Fred didn't have any kids so it wouldn't be "Fred Jr."), but it just amuses me to imagine George and Angelina's child being called "Fred Two."

Right? I guess they didn't understand just how fast that'd have to be. I'm pretty sure if a Bee could flap 6000 times per second it'd rip a hole in the space time continuum and become the first time traveling being in history... wait... maybe THAT'S where all the bees are disappearing to. They've succeeded at time travel. 😳
16:03 I was the exact same way. The only thing I've ever stolen was a set of crayons from a restaurant, and I felt so guilty I eventually sent them back and haven't stolen a single thing since.
Just looked through all the TableTop episodes again and this one is without a doubt my favorite...

For the bee wing flaps per second, you can just think about the approximate pitch of a buzz, and keep in mind A above middle C is 440 Hz. So yeah, around 200 something sounds right.

They got the Weasley question and I thought everyone was going to put seven. Then Wil admitted not having HP knowledge, so I thought everyone but will. If Nascar is the most liked sport, how could the number for football be over 50%?
@borjangagovski6545
9 жыл бұрын
Even if it is the most liked sport, that doesn't necessarily mean that it is over 50%.
@durnazzer1111
9 жыл бұрын
Nascar doesn't necessarily have to be over 50%, but Football cannot be over 50%. If football is 50.001%, Nacar would be less than 49.999%, therefore making football the most liked sport.
@sw96
9 жыл бұрын
Dan Plays Games It would depend on if the survey data was exclusive or not, if they asked people to only write down their most favorite sport then what you say is correct. However if they ask people to list all the sports they like then you could have 1 sport be liked by say 80% of the population while another is liked by only 60%, it would just mean that there are a lot of people who like BOTH sport 1 and 2.
@Ruminations09
9 жыл бұрын
jagofett78studios *facepalm* Why? Why do so many people make this same mistake? It's still called "football," it's only "futbol" in Spanish. Go to England, they don't call the sport soccer there (well, some might, but most don't), they don't call it futbol there, they call it football. The exact same spelling and pronunciation as the American sport with the egg shaped not-ball.
@LordQwert
9 жыл бұрын
Nascar is the "most popular". The percent is how many people list it as their favorite. Different metrics. It could be that almost everyone likes Nascar, but has something they like better, whereas Football might be highly polarizing, which the largest favorite group, but no one outside that group liking it at all.

Not only did you lose nerd cred for not having read Harry Potter, Wil. You also lose some because i is not an irrational number; it is an imaginary or complex number.
@djveneko

Lol (-1)^(1/2) kids. I laughed too hard at that. But yes he was wrong.
@EdwardBerner
10 жыл бұрын
SPD Well, technically _i_ does not equal sqrt(-1), since both +i and -i qualify for that. The actual definition is that i^2 = -1
@djveneko
10 жыл бұрын
EdwardBerner i^(2) = -1 which is the same thing as sqrt(-1)^(2)=-1 sooooo. i^2 = -1 sqrt both sides sqrt(i^2)= sqrt(-1) LHS sqrt cancels with power of 2 leaving i = sqrt(-1) i really dont understand what you were going with this.
@EdwardBerner
10 жыл бұрын
SPD My point was, that root operations behaves a little differently when complex numbers are involved. Your example uses the regular square root, which is only defined for numbers larger or equal to zero. In the complex plane, every root operation has as many "correct answers" as the number of the root you are taking. There are always two square roots, three third roots, four fourth roots and so on (except for the number zero). There is no good way to single out one specific result from these to be the "correct" one, so the square root of -1 is both +i and -i. So, defining i so that i^2 = -1 is cleaner. Also, here's why your example does not work: 1 = 1 (-1)^2 = 1 | sqrt both sides sqrt((-1)^2) = sqrt(1) | sqrt cancels with power of 2 -1 = 1
@djveneko
10 жыл бұрын
EdwardBerner 1 = 1 My example does work the reason why you got -1 = 1 is because you only worked on the LHS and completely ignored the RHS. but if you do the same thing you did to the LHS and just work the RHS you still get -1 = -1. (-1)^2 = 1 | sqrt both sides sqrt((-1)^2) = sqrt(1) -1 = sqrt(1) || sqrt(1) = sqrt(-1 * -1)
HOW COULD YOU NOT GET THE WEASLEY CHILDREN????? There is so much shame... it is done.... Also, Wil, "my children grew out of it" - one does not simply one out of Harry Potter!

they also placed "i" after 1 but before every other number, implying that you can compare complex numbers as they are which you can't. they either should have put "i" before 1 (measuring the total value of each complex number's real part which would give 0 for "i") or under/over 1 (measuring the euclidean distance from the origin which is equal to 1).
