I'm on the road with the historic steamboat "Kaiser Wilhelm". It goes from Lauenburg via Geesthacht and Hoopte over the Süderelbe to the port of Hamburg and from there via the Norderelbe, Hoopte and Geesthacht back to Lauenburg.

The historic paddle steamer "Kaiser Wilhelm" is one of the last two coal-powered paddle steamers still in operation in Germany. Operated by the Association for the Promotion of the Lauenburg Elbe Navigation Museum, this piece of history regularly makes smaller excursions to Bleckede and a few times a year also large special trips, such as the one in this video to the port of Hamburg.
In a journey of over 10 hours, the ship first travels from Lauenburg to Geesthacht and then to Hoopte, before the "Kaiser Wilhelm" sails across the Süderelbe into the Köhlbrand, passing under one of Hamburg's landmarks, the Köhlbrand Bridge. The journey continues down the Elbe to the museum harbor Ovelgönne where the "Kaiser Wilhelm" turns around to sail across the Norderelbe, past the St. Pauli Landungsbrücken and the Elbphilharmonie concert hall into the harbor basin of the future German Harbor Museum. After another turnaround, we cross the Norderelbe, pass under the Elbe bridges and return to Hoopte, continue to Geesthacht, until we finally arrive back in Lauenburg.
The weather is truly kind to us on this tour. With bright sunshine (almost the whole day) we can enjoy a fantastic ride with an impressive piece of history.
