After reading a bunch of the comments I’m in shock. Some people do nothing but say bad things. His product may not be for you BUT I’m sure others love it. This guy spent the time to figure out a solution to HIS problem, save money and pass it on for others, he patented it and after god knows how much money and time for R&D not to mention the federal safety standards just to sell the thing. I see comments saying I can build this for $xxx along with some other tactless comments. I do like seeing the CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM tips and tricks for what others have done to improve or adapt to their situations. That’s great!! Point is give credit where credit is due. I hope the guy made millions selling out. Maybe he’s sitting with his family enjoying life 😉. God Bless

I've looked at this and can only be positive about the entire unit. Sure, you need to empty the ash pan. And needs cleaning. The only thing living in Ireland i thought would be good is if i could heat water for heating/showers, etc, then "boom" at the end of the video, he's showing the water heater version. I'll certainly be looking more into this in the near future 👍👍
I like the idea of the no electric stove. I've had pellet stoves for several years now, and electric failure is the only drawback. I wish you continued success with your company.

I have seen this stove in operation at our local ACE store. The sq footage is close to 5,000 feet and they heat it with two stoves, 1 in the front of the store and one at the back and the place is toasty! I like your product! Great idea and invention.

Problem with that is that heat rises and this may not be good enough to heat a whole house without distributing the heat somehow. A boiler stove is usually needed to distribute the heat around the house. It would probably be great way to heat a large room though as a space heater. It's an interesting concept without needing the complexity of a normal pellet stove.

For what Lowes charges, I can make one much cheaper and better built. This design leaves too much heat go out the chimney making it less efficient.
based on some the online reviews, it seems the next generation could use some clean out hatches on the upper tube parts. other than that, people seem very happy with these stoves

I’ve owned one since 2016. Finding good pellets that burn good has been the biggest problem. Leaf blower works good to clean the ashes out where the vacuum cleaner won’t reach 😁
I wish tractor supply carried these still in their stores. I cant find them in any stores anymore.. very sad. These are great uf your power goes out! They have double in price which is really sad too. I have purchased other non electric stove this one is less messy to clean then all the other ones. I am disabled. I fill the back using a soup pan. But that works for me. This man is a very honest man. You can now buy them though united state stove company. ( USSC) the original stove was better built. Welding was better. God bless this man for making a great product.
Flue draft is vital to proper function on this unit. I notice going from 3 inch to 4 inch helps drafting in this demonstration. Will use 4 inch all the way in my install. When outside, go up at least another 6 feet. Should burn good then. I love that it runs on God's laws of basic physics.

i see this pellet stove is efficient, impressive ,so green,my opinion is if you add a electrical igniter it will be perfect for home use,a child can start this without risk
Looks nice, I'm running 1000 1500 deg. constant with a room air blower all winter long with conventional oak split wood.12 hours is not a problem. I don't know if I should go pellet stove? I like the concept, but all them moving parts to fix on pellet stoves has always prevailed in keeping my good old wood burner on them cold winter nights. But one of these days I'm going to give your pellet stove a try.
The big problem with these pellet stoves is there are probably 1000 different makes and models, none of which will be around in 10 years to supply parts. This design may solve that issue as parts aren't really needed. Anything requiring repair in 10 years can be manufactured in any garage with a welder.
@Kobe29261

Crucial observation, however the electronic boards are reaching zero cost for the other versions with moving parts so I doubt there'll be a big issue. Combustion is an inherently low complexity arrangement - set something on fire>control its availability>leave the rest to physics

My parents have had an Englander since 97. They still use it today 25years later. Parts are very easy to find. Many parts are interchangeable. Unless you buy a stove from a brand new unestablished manufacturer, i do not see this as an issue. 25 years is a pretty decent life span for a pellet stove. Especially when you run it non stop. I imagine their stove has paid for itself dozens of times when compared to the cost of propane. They have had to replace the door gasket 4 times and the room blower twice. Thats about $600 in maintenance. My wife and i have had the same stove since 2009. Havent had to replace anything on it (knock on wood).

Parts, what is unique about any of this design, it looks like 4" square stock from any metal yard. It will be timeless.
More cleanout openings would be nice and maybe use round tubes to get more of a vortex effect and an enclosure around so no one gets burnt with one of those convection fans to blow heat out. I do like the idea of no moving electrical parts. But very pricy in Ontario Canada, selling for $1800. Would like to buy blueprints so I can make it my self with a few changes.

For hydronic heating, I'd like to know the BTU output. A measure of the BTU capacity is measuring the output water temperature vs the input temperature (i.e., the temp rise) at a given flow rate. I'd want the output Temp to be maintained at a constant > 160 degrees F. at 5 gal/min.

Very interesting!
Very neat, compact design. But with your temp gauge location, that means you've got very high temps going out the flue pipe. By contrast I have had the top of my Rocket Stove as high as 930*F with flue temps no higher than 220*F. Less heat out the flue = more heat in the room. I'll keep my non-UL certified Rocket.

Doesnt low flu temp cause creasote formation?
@boogieloo1831

Tommy Apples - Rocket stoves run so hot, that almost all smoke and creosote is burned away. That's why they are so efficient.
The biggest problem is you have to constantly baby sit the burn chamber to make sure that the coals don’t build up around the basket, when that happens the basket rods get too hot and burn out. After replacing two in one season I stopped using it. Good design for occasional use but you can’t leave it overnight without starting to decay the burn basket.

I have heated with pellet stoves for years. I love the fuel but hate the stoves with the electrical problem and maintenance, but this is amazing All the simplicity of a woodstove with the convenience of a pellet stove. 0 drawbacks, nothing to fail. The only thing i dont like is the size of the hopper. i think an 80lb Hopper would be nicer
Hey Gary l love your stove. Was wondering if you ever considered making a smaller version for a bedroom?
I really like the idea of using it for hydronic, but if it were even hotter, it could be used for a steam-powered turbine to generate DC power for battery storage
Great stove, well built, excellant workmanship. But I've never been able to get 36 hrs. on low w small basket, 12 max. as a welder/fabricator myself my main issue is the hopper will not hold a 40 lb. bag. Needs to be larger w an angled skirt around top.

There is a LOT of heat wasted out of the flue (chimney). For a place in central California, it might not be bad. However, if you live in Minnesota, you'd need one for every room. A modern gas furnace has flue temperatures in the 90's. The key to efficiency is a low flue temperature (the ratio of usable heat to the wasted heat).

Keep in mind that I've only used it for a couple weeks, that being said, so far so good kzread.infoUgkxAU9pOCSV9Y5JprooHvfxTpOrt4hx8uRM . Using it at 8 ft. by 8ft. deer blind that is insulated. I have to keep the door cracked for it to get enough air to burn, but that is very likely the wood I've used. Much better quality than I expected for the price. Now if I can just take it easy in the beginning it won't be 90 degrees in my blind. All in all it seems like a keeper.
If i had this i would hook up some form of hot water heat exchanger and blower for extra air movement.
I may build one myself, only I'm going to enclose the tubes and blow all the heat out the top of the enclosure to heat my home. I don't know the BTUs, but if it gets 500-600 degrees, a small blower fan should work.
This is genius :-)

Vibrating hopper goes ok for woodchips.
Continued; And the stove will burn out with 4-5 lbs. of pellets that do not feed well. The angle inside is not high enough to allow all the pellet to feed properly. It's necessary to scrape the crust from the burn basket every few days.
Im interested in the fact you can run a hose through it to clean. Very simple. However, i know from experience that heat and water cause rust. We go through a steel firepit every few years due to burning and then getting rained on. Does this style of cleaning shorten the lifespan if performed over a long flexible brush with an ash vac? I know thats not as easy, but its still fairly quick and simple. Would i benefit from more years of use by brushing rather then flushing with water? Another question. Using a blow torch for 8 minutes a light can get pretty expensive in itself. Has there been any advancements in the 10 years you have made this video for a cheaper way to start up?
You should definitely add an igniter that can be used if you have power but retain the propane lighting option if the power is out or for cabins without power. I'd buy one immediately if so but I don't want to have to mess with propane when I have mains power. Also why do you not have a website any longer ? Your link goes to a placeholder.

The gel alcohol lighter fluid helps ,you might be able to get away with that and matches or a lighter, but I will tell you flat out from personal experience, the propane torch is the best way , period.
Pellet use amounts are actually more than double
I made the mistake of buying a Castle Serenity brand stove that claims they work well for a 1000 sq ft cabin. Unfortunately, it runs way to hot. Will this stove run at a low enough temp to not overheat my cabin?
How many times can you light the stove on each propane canister? I light my wood stove at home with a propane torch. That takes maybe 20 seconds of burn time each time. I go through two standard cylinders a year. Love the stove but how much propane would I have on hand? What if I run out of propane? Can it be lit without one at all?
How would this work with (cat litter) wood pellets...perhaps for an outdoor shed?
I bought mine from ingrams. I love mine. I'm super happy with mine! I payed 1400 for mine,I just wish it had wheels on the base. But mo biggie.
Definitely one of the best designed and well working units, glad the inventor sold out to make some I hope decent dough BUT the current price is ridiculously expensive. I also have to disagree with Jeff Tatro's idiotic comment, bashing that guy (Jim Thomas) who said he can build it around $100. What's "bad" with stating his opinion which also happens to be way more realistic than what US Stove is now charging for this unit. Well I worked out the numbers and after a better calculation, and factoring the work hours (including R&D) to build a prototype, a better net cost assessment would be in the $350 range, so even with a 100% markup this unit should be selling at around $750. Actually my only criticism to the inventor is he should have not sold too soon or at least negotiate a clause to have a say and a percentage on MSRP. Now, such a good idea has been hijacked by the money 💵 hungry corporate Ame

So, basically a rocket stove fuelled with an automatic feed of wood pellets. I want one for my basement in case of power outages. With the power out, my oil burner won't work, so I can use the same chimney pipe.
Pellet bag burn claims are like MPG claims from manufacturers. It's almost always BS.
Make one with an attachment for WVO/SVO/BD100 and I will buy it, else Zero Labs' non-UL stove is pretty good.
Continued; The stove will start cooling down as the feed rate to the second burn chamber will become restricted do to crusting and clinckers in the burn basket. use only high grade fuel and she'll work great! Your explanation leaves people still without complete understanding. What do mean, burns a hole? How, burns a hole in what? What do you mean can't climb back up? More details are needed to give potential buyers incentive to how it works. Looks great, great job on your design.
I see now the water system, i did not look at the whole video. My question is how cheap can i buy wood pellets? How many 30 hour burns vs. cost for four months?
