Wisconsin’s Barrens of the Northwest Sands

The unique barrens of the Northwest Sands is unlike anything else in the state. However, this is what a lot of Wisconsin used to look like!
Mike Amman, a Bayfield County forester, expertly guides us through this rare landscape, highlighting its natural beauty, wildlife, and recreational opportunities.
Come see all the barrens’ have to offer, and learn about the strong conservation efforts made to protect them, all while serving Bayfield County taxpayers.
We'd like to give a special thanks to the following individuals for their contributions to this short:

I love seeing this area thriving. I worked in this area in the late 70’s with the youth conservation service. Was at the nameokogin barrens a lot. Awesome.

Thanks for bringing attention to this often overlooked ecosystem! I live near the Moquah Barrens and am overdue for a visit.
