...I still remember hearing the Point jingle on the radio when I was at the college in the 1970s and still find myself humming it from time to time. Very catchy. Yeah spent many weekend evening at the "Square"which at the time had a number of bars that catered to students. The University even allowed serving beer in The Student Union "Gridiron" snack bar ann snack bars in Allen and DeBot centres. At the time I was there the age for drinking beer was 18 and a year later the age for all alcohol was dropped to 18. Until the airlines prohibited bringing liquids on board I would usually bring a couple six packs of "Blue Bullets" (the iconic blue cans) wrapped in brown paper as my carry ons when I headed back home to the northwest where I now live. Ah the aroma of paper mills unmistakeable and unescapable. eventually you didn't notice it that much. After a couple years atteh college I grew to like the city's easier living pace and just ended up just staying on. Very wonderful programme and brought back some memories.

I moved up here roughly 13 years ago from Lewisburg, OH. Best choice I have ever made, and I'm glade to be apart of this beautiful land. Good to know the history of this city. My home town history is quite dark.

@@dannylance5212 you have not read Consumer Reports, because of the many different places in the USA the truth is that it is horrible living conditions, because of the fact that there is no passenger train travel service from State to State, and that needs to be accounted for, and it is left unaccounted for, which is not good! Now it is true that there is very poor quality service in Stevens Point Wisconsin! Yes I am telling you the truth about how it is dirty, because of the heavy industry that polluted the Wisconsin River, where there 4 huge polluters they refined iron into steel, timber into paper, fossil coal tar into synthetic rubber, and sticky petroleum into plastic! Now that is the truth going back to 1880, and is an unaccounted factor! Make no mistake about it, because this something that is fact, yes it is right to say that there is a great deal of waste land, because of parking lots, low level buildings, and that is something that needs to be accounted for, and it is not untrue what has been mentioned! There is nothing that is firsthand state of the art technology, and it is not wrong to mention that Stevens Point Wisconsin is not anywhere on the world class scale, which needs to be accounted for.

I remember fondly as a little girl going to my Aunt Nonnies home where she'd give me a candy bar and let me sit quietly and watch her make flies! She was very, very old and frail, some 80 years old but she tied those flies so quickly and skillfully. She told me stories of how she worked at the 'ladies only' fly factory where 'old maids' (she never married), like herself would work hard but that they all had life long friendships.

...loved that motto as it was true. I remember the Point Brewery trucks still only delivering to towns in Portage county in the 70s.
