I just tried this at home and was able to see the SIP traffic with our office VOIP provider. Encryption should be used whenever possible.

If you have the TLS certificate, you can add it to Wireshark to decrypt the SIP packets. You need the provider's TLS cert for each provider/customer you are troubleshooting. Some SIP service will have a TLS cert for each customer they provide service to.

Welcome aboard!

Just did a packet capture on my production network and the SIP NTU our phone system uses already uses TLS1.2 to connect to our phone company (Telstra here in Australia). Lots of encrypted UDP packets, but nothing usable. Makes me feel better. Though, you have to wonder whether the private key used to encrypt the traffic is secure... I'd put my money on no...

A great video but does it work with smartphones too or only with telephones?
