Wire Wrapping Tutorial - The Ankh, Key of Life Pendant
Hi friends! I wanted to create something really special and unique, as well as fun and simple! This Ankh, Key of Life pendant tutorial is designed to use a flat back, teardrop cabochon, but you could substitute with a side-drilled focal bead of the same shape. Tools and materials are listed in the front of the tutorial. This is a fully detailed, step by step wire wrapping tutorial. Materials: 16 inches of 18 gauge, round, soft wire
4 feet of 22 gauge half-round wire.
One almond or teardrop shape cabochon 20mm x 15mm
The one I am using is Jet. You can also use Black Agate or any stone of choice!
There is a TYPO in the video Materials card. You will actually need 4 feet of 22 gauge half-round wire, not 3 feet as it says in the start of the video.

Thanks Jennifer! I buy a lot of my tools and wire from Riogrande.com but you can find these Chasing Hammers in many places like beadsmith, eurotool, Michael's crafts, etc. Hope that helps!

I'm fairly new to wire jewelry making (a few weeks), and made some pretty nice rings mostly. I've tried to make this project and followed the instructions but for some reason my bends all come out uneven on the arms either one is too long and the other one too short, not sure what I'm doing wrong since I am marking my bends first with sharpie. Any tips? ty

Can this work with an Oval Cabachon?

It should work fine with oval and rounds too, just a small shape difference up top, but the wrap should work the same.
How would you adjust this for a slightly bigger stone? Do i just add abit of extra lemgth to my wires? My stone is 28mm by 18mm ish 😂😊

@PerfectlyTwistedJewelry How do you get the half round so neat? I've been trying but definitely struggling with it! When I go to clamp it down it looks uneven and messy 😂

Half round can be hard to work with, it has a direction, so the focus will be to keep the flat side of the half round against the frame wires and the curved decorative side, facing up. You can sub with a weaving wire like 26 or 28 gauge also. I hope that helps!

How large is the pendent once it is complete?

Thanks, Judy! It's about 2.25 inches from top of the bale to the bottom of the pendant and about 1.25 wide. I hope that helps! Great suggestion, I should have put the finished size in there at the beginning. Will do from now on. Thanks again!
