1000x's over, I agree for showing us how you seperated this unit. I have 4 of these and the corner shelves unit. I never thought to separate them like you did here. Fabulous idea. I used painted white mdf shelf boards from Lowes and now half are craft books, music cds and audio books and the rest are craft storage. Thanks for filming these awesome ideas. I got my shelves from Sam's Club at Christmas time.

I know this is older, but this is a COOL idea to convert the five-shelf units into a workspace. I’m thinking about setting up a sewing area in my new home, and this will be PERFECT to set up a sewing desk with additional shelving for things that need to be accessed. You are correct - those wire shelves are SO strong! I use these for my dumbbells and kettlebells, and they are STRONG.

This is a fantastic idea! I split the same racks into 2 and put the top half of one on top of my craft desk. With just 2 shelves the top stores my 12x12 paper on top in a foam core and cardboard divider i made for it, and the next shelf down is shallow so i can store skinny crafting things (embossing powders, paper trimmers ect.) on the edges i use different length hooks from an old hanging pot rack and just general S hooks on these i store rolls of foam tape, db sided adhesive rolls and tools i reach for often.

I KNEW it!!!! I love these shelves. I have about 9 units in various sizes. I couldn’t decide on a TV stand so we bought - small 3 shelf for the bedroom and a 5 shelf for the LR. The rest are used as typical storage shelves. They’re sturdy versatile shelves. I thought I was being ghetto for having it in the LR. People seem to like it ok. I was going to dress it up a bit like Katherine in Do It On A Dime but I found I didn’t have the patience to do the shelves so I just scraped that idea. I told my mom that I knew there was a way that these shelves could be manipulated into something more but I just couldn’t figure it out. I’m not a creative person. Thank you so much for this. I, personally would love to see more videos or tutorials on how to do various versions with these shelves. It would be great for small living spaces and it would be cost affective too.

Thanks for showing the horizontal layout using these wire shelves. I have one of these wire shelves for my sewing fabrics. I use the clear, under the bed size, storage bins and I set up my shelves to hold 2 bins stacked. I can also slide another bin beneath the bottom shelf. I separate my fabrics according to colors in my bins. I am a bit of a semi organized sewing hoarder. I enjoy your organizational videos. Keep them coming.

YES!❤️ You are absolutely right❤️ - these are the best shelves on the market! We bought ours about 23 years ago from Costco and they were around $70 but so well worth the money! We have one in the laundry room to put clean baskets of laundry! Also when my kids were little I would put smaller bins of their clothes with their names on the front of their bin then they could carry them to their rooms and put them away! 😂 We also created a hanging section for shirts! The other unit we use in the garage and it is completely full! They are so sturdy and so strong! Love your ideas for using them!❤️ Thanks!🥰😘

I brought my shelving up and things are now stored so much better and I got my dining room and 3/4 of my very large , rectangular living room back! I’ll be buying another unit to make this “table like” unto as well! Thank you for all that you teach us! ❤️

I used them in my craft room & loved them. They were set up on perimeter of 2 walls & I even had 1 set up dividing my work table into 4 zones. My most used items were stored on the shelves. No matter what station you were working at, everything was within reach. Moved & waiting to set up when I find my new forever home. Will do the same setup. Worked great. I miss it. My hubby surprised me and combined 2 shelving units for my craft room when I was at work! The shelves are staggered, but I like asymmetry. The cool thing is we are using 3 shelving units from our garage instead of buying new shelving to fit the space. We couldn’t use them side by side in my open closet, so he combined them to fit the space. I’d take a picture but I’m in the midst of purging and organizing my craft room. It’s chaos! Plus I’m thinking of buying wire baskets, S hooks, etc to add more options to my unit. I’ll try to remember to post a pic of the shelving when I’m done. Thank you for sprinkling your inspiration and motivation fairy dust on me!

THese shelves are amazing, although I prefer 48 by 18 shelf size. For kitchen jars and stuff it is much better to have liners, that are sold on amazon, so things won't get stuck between wires. If person wants to use part of it as a desk, hard liner is needed. I love that there are so many additions possible, hooks (from daiso!), baskets, extra little shelves. I used longer daiso hooks to hold dowel with curtain on it. I even have a mini fridge on one! :)

This is a really interesting way to do this. I totally get the way you explained having shelves to avoid stacking containers and it being difficult to have to access the one on the bottom. I'm a craft hoarder and I had this realization years ago when trying to figure out the best way to store things. I recently moved to an apartment with an amazing back yard. It's not huge but it has a 6 ft privacy fence and room to put shelves. I got the $40 plastic shelves from home depot because the space between the shelves is the right size for the bins I bought to store items. They aren't all created equal. The ones from Walmart have less space in between shelves and I'm glad I realized that before buying them. They also have a similar set to HD at harbor freight which is $40 as well. I got one there too using a 20% off coupon. I'm trying to figure out if I can find pvc pipe in the right diameter to make the shelves further apart for taller bins. I looked into the metal shelves but my concern is they might rust being out in the elements. It's really a complicated process trying to figure out the best storage solutions. It's very kind of you to share your knowledge. Thanks!

The metal may have visual rust... but mine have been out for several years and have no structure change. The plastic will oxidize over time, and become brittle and break. Just be careful xoxoxox

@@TheCraftyOrganizer im obsessive when deciding the best options and i think everything through quite thoroughly and then decide which option works best for me. i can live with them falling apart in 5-10 years, but I don't want to have to deal with the possible rust stains left behind in the surrounding area (especially since im a renter), or have to try to cover them up on the rack with spray paint or a sealer every time they appear. It really just depends on personal preference.

Hi Noreen, We have an extra bedroom that we made into our “closet room“ . we have Decluttery so many clothes that one of the garment racks from target is available for storage. I had some extra shelves from my wire rack from Home Depot. so we have the silver garment rack from Target and the black rack from Home Depot. You’re not gonna believe this, but they are not the same depth. I’m trying to figure out how to bend the poles so they fit the smaller shelves so I can add 2 shelves from Home Depot to the former garment rack. I want to put earthquake food storage on the shelves. Thanks for your ideas.

I covered my wire shelf unit with fabric, so it will fit well with my decor. I did this by covering the upright poles with fabric, and sewing the edges of the fabric to each other. Then, gluing the edges to the plastic joints. I also sewed fabric the front and side edges of each shelf, by stitching through the openings in the metal.

Great ideas!!! I want a unit like this for my laundry room. I resell on eBay and am planning on getting a large shelf like this on wheels for inventory. I sell out of a room that is multi use, so I could just wheel it out of the way on non sale/ship days.

I had an idea for turning the steel wire shelving into a wardrobe for shoes on the bottom and a space for clothes to hang and making a bar to hang the clothes across the middle along the bottom of the top shelf using steel pipes with steel elbows and flange plate on the top part of the wire. On a budget, these steel wire shelves really pay for themselves and the ones I get are from The Home Depot and they sell castors you screw into the bottom for $20 a set.

I already have two of those shelving units. One in Kitchen and the other in craft, sewing, art studio. Also have a smaller one on wheels (Martha Stewart brand) in kitchen. I LOVE them. Did not know about the s hooks. Where can I find those, please? Aldi's had the two taller ones. K-Mart had the one on rollers. There is a cutting board on that one.( Took it back to look for one that did not have the notty pine holes in it. )Did not want them falling out. That is really nice. I can move it back and forth to open cabinet door. Also, put items from frig and freezer on top when needed. I had gotten a large wooden cutting board previously and that stays on top all the time. I have a large plastic type cutting board we put over one sink to do prep on. I have three metal baskets (Better Homes And Garden...Wal-Mart find.) I have been wanting off floor. For root veggies. Things get too dried out from heat vent in kitchen across from it. Kitchen is fine...small. Thanks! Like your program.

Hi, Mary! I think they are amazing too. You can find the S hooks in my amazon store: www.amazon.com/shop/callclutterfairy I'm trying to figure out a way to turn my counters into wood cutting boards - I'd like them without the pine holes too. LOL

I had the wire grids that make cube units...hated them. Ended up using a chrome unit and zip tying grids between 2 shelves vertically so my 12x12 scrapbook paper bins wouldn't fall over. Then I used grids and s hooks on the sides to hold my bulky crazy 8 punches.

I would love to see how you might be able to use wire shelving like this (or maybe units that aren’t quite so wide) to set up a sewing table and sewing supply storage system. Also do you have a suggestion how to securely attach a hard top for the work surface? Thanks in advance. 😁🤗

  • @TheCraftyOrganizer

    @TheCraftyOrganizer

I would do the same system, but get the 2' shelves through Amazon. The top doesn't really move, but if you are concerned, you could get a large washer and screw and attach the the board from the underside, thus securing it to the wire shelf.

@@TheCraftyOrganizer - Yup, I highly recommend anyone assembling these wire shelving units to at least buy a $1 rubber mallet from the Dollar Store - You'll be glad you did as you only need to give an easy knock on the shelves at each pole and the mallet won't scratch the chrome or epoxy finish. It also makes it very easy to disassemble the shelving or just reconfigure the space between shelves as your needs change.

Nifty idea. I have 3 of this type of shelf except they’re black. We set them up in the standard way, but it’s cool to spread them out. What did you use on the bottoms of the rods, so they don’t scratch the surface you place them on?

  • @TheCraftyOrganizer
