Wiper Blade Comparison: Trico and Rain-X

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this episode, I talk about some Trico and Rain-X wiper blades that I purchased recently on Amazon. The Rain-X Latitudes are nothing new, but the Truck and SUV Rugged Series is new to me. They seem to be a little beefier version of the Latitudes. I also picked up some Trico wiper blades. As a tech, Trico was typically the cheaper option that was offered to customers and as a tech you could see why they were so cheap. To push myself past previous experiences, I picked up a set of Gold and White blades. The Gold blades are still classified by Trico as a Premium option but there are many premium options above the gold. The White blades are a winter blade that Trico only sells on Amazon. And similar to the Truck and SUV from Rain-X, I picked up a top tier blade from Trico in the form of their only "Super Premium" option called Silicone Ceramic. Comparing the Trico blades, they seem as if the wiping portion is unique to each level as well as the outer structure for catching the air to keep pressure on the windshield. The attachment adapters seemed very similar and while the J-hook style worked flawlessly, the style used by the Pontiac G8's wiper arms made for a struggle to get the adapter to hold on properly. The Rain-X blades went onto the J-hook style similarly without issue. So all in all the winner was the Bosch Icons that I removed from my SUV. I bought them way back in 2020 and was just now removing them for starting to be streaky. I would probably never buy another set of Bosch Icons given their price point, but the fact they lasted for 2+ years is pretty impressive. In all seriousness, the Rain-X wipers are the ones for me at this moment, for these vehicles, at this price point. With easy install on J-hooks, mid price point, and the Rain-X coating applied to the blades, it's hard to see the point of running the Trico blades. I'm going to keep an open mind though, as I'm really curious as to how the Trico White blades will fair through winter up here in Minnesota. Also with the SUV running 2 different styles of Rain-X blades, it'll be interesting to see which one goes the longest without issue. Jump points are as follows:

It was way too cold and windy to be replacing wiper blades
Plenty of lessons learned, like I feel like the description is written better than I laid out the video.

Just had to decide between the rain x weather beaters and the trico ceramic coated both on sale on Amazon .. the rain x was like 18$ for both where as the tricos were around 45$ for the set.. obviously I went with the rain x will keep updated with performance

I've been using Trico for decades since that was what was available to have easily shipped to me. I replace them every other year, and I've been happy with them. This year, they're not available for my car anywhere so I came here to check out some info on the RainX blades. Looks like they'll be a great choice going forward. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for putting your experience in the comment. So far this winter, the RainX wipers are standing up pretty well. No real noticeable difference between the mid-tier blade and the high price point SUV blade. It'll be interesting to see which one gets streaky first. The Trico winter blades had a small plastic piece break/fall off the blade. I think its just there to clean up the look of the blade as like an endcap. So not a big deal but something I noted.
