We had an Eberspacher diesel heater fitted under the floor of our T5 and it’s been fantastic, yes it was expensive but at what price safety ? Being underfloor mounted means it takes up no storage space and is silent, we leave it on 16*c at night and it cuts in and out as required we have not been cold at night since we’ve had it and we wild camp all year round. Like yourself we also pull the pop top down to reduce the space that requires heating and heat loss through it. Some great tips there 👍🏻🇬🇧

    1. Covers on the front windows and get a curtain. 2. Don't have a pop top, huge heat loss. 3. Wood burners STINK...useless in a little little van. 4. Propane heaters beware, buy a good one or dangerous..not cheap though. We have two duvets, one thin summer and one huge duck and down, sleep on one, under the other, nothing better. Planning a trip to Switzerland so looking for a solution...maybe rely on campsites??

@@vanlifegoodies Been looking at diesel heaters and no. I am going to do what I did many years ago in a T3 and take a fan heater and stay on a campsite, 1kW was too much then so we have a 500w. Not so brave, I am 72, we will go after Easter. We slept out in 1c in Portugal where we live with just the big duvet and that was okay.

I’ve got a cheap Chinese diesel heater in my dub there as good as the more expensive ones as long as you star them on full heat power then you can turn them down to what’s comfortable and before you turn then of turn them to full to burn of the carbon that will have built up for a few mins and they should last

I car camp now - I use blankets - hand warmers - electronic and chemical and carry a full flask or two, one with hot food in. Because I live in the fells there's a good chance of getting cut off in rural parts - talking of rural parts, get thee thermals on! Good little videos.

Interesting video. I've been looking into heating for my rather tiny plaggy French van. Mainly for the cab. But... one day I'd like to do out the back as a sort of van I can sit in if I drive somewhere out in the sticks. The cab heater which works off the engine is rubbish. My dog breathing on me would keep me warmer! I like the idea of the USB blankets - perhaps on the seats. Recently I bought an Allpowers S200 auxiliary battery. Unfortunately it is only 200w, so running an electric heater is not something I could do. I did think about a diesel heater, with having a split duct to heat the back and another through the bulkhead to the cab. They look rather complicated to install though. One thing I will do is install a cab headliner - using a thermal windscreen cover. I also need to address the problem of condensation - possibly by adding some vents to the back of the van. This is a big problem. Having mould on the steering wheel and seatbelts if my van has sat for a while during the Winter, isn't that nice.

I know it might sound stupid, but if you put your hair dryer on the engine and on the Leads and spark plugs, your car will fire up first time , in the cold weather.(Guaranteed) And if your windows are icy, then pour lukewarm water on it . It doesn't crack The windscreen (windshield) unless it's really hot water . Or failing that , put de icer in your Windscreen water bottle.. And also change your battery , spark plugs , and Leads in September./ Say . Ready for the wintertime (fall) And you should have no problem at all. If you take these small measures That is exactly what I used to do when i had my vehicle. And I never had a problem with my Ford fiestas 👍, 🇬🇧 .

I wasn’t having a pop at you ! I have done something similar with minis in the past as they are prone to getting damp electrics, I’ve taken the distributor cap, leads and plugs and put them in a warm (not hot) oven for a while to dry out. 👍🏻🇬🇧

hiya, great informative video with lots of good tips. Just one thing you might want to check. I notice you have the KS energy lithium ion phosphate battery in your van. I dont know if you know that a KS energy battery was recently responsible for a fire that destroyed an expensive motorhome and that KS energy have been recalling certain of their batteriesas like yours for having a serious electrical fault that can cause the batteries to explode. They have just covered KS batteries being recalled on Motor home Matt's channel. Hope you didn't mind me mentioning it. Of course you probably know and have had the battery checked. Much respect- Kenny

Nice video production. We have a gas heater, running from our 4.5kg blue Calor bottle (now thankfully restored to distribution). It’s great and effective, however our heater output is by the RnR bed, so when the bed is out, we’re just heating the under-RnR storage cavity :). Heat-up though is fast. We have summer Duvelays and have never been cold. No pyjamas, too!
