Dude went from dragging ass to chasing dragons. Can you imagine being those Soviet soldiers at that campsite though? They're just sitting there minding their own, thinking about how they're going to have to report that the enemy escaped, then this dude in Finnish gear bursts through the trees vibrating like he's trying to enter the Speedforce, he looks around and then he just books it into the woods and I can only imagine he's leaving a six-foot rooster-tail of snow behind him like something out of SledStorm while screaming the lyics to Dragula.

I got another Finn for ya, Lauri Allan Torni, aka Larry Alan Thorne. The man hated Communists so much that he fought in the Finnish army against the USSR in the Winter War and Continuation War, earning the Cross of Mannerheim (the Finnish equivalent of the Medal of Honor) in the process, then fought against the Soviets with the Waffen SS in WWII, earning an Iron Cross in the process, then fought in Vietnam as a Green Beret in the US Army, ultimately going down when his helicopter stuck around too long and got hit by bad weather. In total the man earned the Cross of Mannerheim, an Iron Cross, the Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, and the Distinguished Flying Cross (though that would be awarded posthumously), and became known as the Soldier of 3 Armies, which is also the name of a pretty sick Sabaton Song about the guy

I think you need to complete your trilogy of over the top Finnish soldiers from World War II. Lauri Tourni, aka Larry Thorne, aka the Soldier of Three Armies. Hated the commies so bad, he joined three different armies to do it. Including the U.S. Army Green Berets purely on the fact that he could fight better than some of the guys half his age. Among the commendations and awards he earned in his career were the Finnish Mannerheim Cross 2nd class, German Iron Cross 2nd class, 2 Purple Hearts, a Distinguished Flying Cross, and a Bronze Star with V device. He was killed in action in Vietnam in 1965 when his helicopter went down. His remains were recovered in 1999 with his South Vietnamese crew's, and are interned in Arlington National Cemetery.

I would like to point out, as a former Pharmacy school student, that methamphetamine has an initial duration/half-life of only about 12-13 hours. He didn't take the entire bottle in a single dose. He DID take way too many pills, but only about 1/4 the total contents. The reason his story lasts so long is that he kept redosing at somewhat regular intervals to stave off exhaustion and sleep. That's also probably why he began experiencing wild hallucinations and delusions. Meth by itself shouldn't do that in most otherwise sane people. However, severe sleep deprivation absolutely CAN do that. Meth can easily keep you awake for over 72 hours, which is about the point that most people start to report intense delusions, visual phenomenon, etc...

So many in the comments seems to want to know about the story that won the writing contest. It's way more tragic and somber than the account of Aimo as are most of these stories though. First place of that writing contest was a written account about the last days of the winter war in Petäjäsaari (pine island), lake Ladoga and almost total destruction of the 220 Finnish men defending it, less than 20 survived almost all of them wounded. Don't know if English translation of it exists but it's called: Viimeiseen mieheen (To the last man) by Tauno Seppä and was published in Kansa taisteli (Nation fought) magazine in 1978

One story shows their solidarity and bravery despite impossible odds, and the other shows that Finns can tank a dose of meth that would kill a horse. I have made and seen some ingenious (sometimes perfectly working) and batshit crazy DIY electric contraptions made basically using whatever relevant know-how/information quick googling provided, wire strippers and electricians tape though sometimes (but very rarely) even soldering iron was used. Remembering apartment full of speakers, bikes, computer parts, hi-fi stereos, more or less illegal chemicals..and all those definitely hazardous DIYT (do-it-yourself-tweaked) electrocuting traps, tasers, weaponry, 💣 💥 I'm not sure if I feel nostalgic yearning for speeding but I'm grateful and lucky that nobody got killed by those works.

Here’s one more Finnish soldier for you. Lauri Törni Allegedly in the Finnish Army and Waffen SS in WWII because they both liked to liquidate Russians and the US Army in Vietnam. Numerous Finnish decorations, Iron Cross 2nd Class, BS with V, DFC and 2 Purple Hearts. This might be the guy from one of my brothers stories that when a formation was called, in the early days of SF, and everyone was instructed to make sure to wear all their decorations foreign and US. He showed up wearing his iron cross with the swastika in the middle.

@@michaelthemadsoldiertisthey man. I feel you. Former meth and heroin addict here, just keep building yourself up and working on yourself. We’ll never be problem free but if you’re heading in the right direction that’s all that matters. Overcoming meth addiction, isn’t easy. If you’re dealing with any psychological issues post meth addiction, just want you to know if you don’t already, as the years go on, those problems will subside. Meth just does a lot of long term damage to your brain. Didn’t mean to write a fucking novel for you, but just rooting for ya.

This was the best ad for Dexedrine I’ve ever heard! Also the leaving of a cabin in the back country used to be traditional in Alaska too. Then snow machines made it so unworthy scum could get into the back country with little or no effort and trashing cabins was fun.
