Winter pigeon and rook shoot - big day
Спорт
Rooks and pigeons are hitting a maize crop. With the cost of feed, Paul Childerley is especially keen to shoot a few of them, so he has built a socially-distanced pigeon hide on his ground in Bedfordshire. Plus he shows how to call in the corvids.

Why shoot pigeons?
The woodpigeon is recognised as the UK’s number one agricultural pest and causes millions of pounds of damage (AHDB consultation 10-40% loss in yield. Equivalent loss of £125/ha for Oil Seed Rape, £250/ha for peas, £350-£1250/ha for brassicas) to agricultural crops every year including cereals, brassicas, oilseed rape, peas and salad crops. Pigeon damage reduces yield, quality, appearance and saleability of the crop. Pigeons also cause damage in gardens and allotments - pecking at leaves and ripping off portions, leaving stalks and larger leaf veins. They may also attack and strip buds, leaves and fruits off trees and bushes.
The UK woodpigeon population was last estimated at 5.4 million pairs in 2009. Densities of wood pigeon are the highest in Eastern England, coinciding with the highest concentration of horticultural production. Wild pigeon is natural, free range, and one of the healthiest meats available. It’s low in cholestero, high in protein… and, quite simply, delicious.

Could you tell me whats the best pigeon decoy pattern and type, still new and learning and any recommendations would be appreciated great video 👍

Decoy patterns change depending on wind and also personal choice between U & V shapes and comma shapes. Plus two blocks with a “killing ground” in the middle. Remember pigeons land into wind, want to get to front of queue and don’t want to overfly those on ground so use a suitable pattern to draw them towards you. Jim Albone videos touch on this a bit & John Humphreys book I can highly recommend.

I honestly can’t believe people spend time doing shit like this, the world don’t need more dead animals just for entertainment, this shit just makes the world a worser place honestly sort your life out!!! The fact that people get satisfaction from killing living beings is sickening!!! I hope humanity comes to a better place soon…

@@RetroRunner2099 Again, a very pointless response, no ones crying here.. the only one crying is the future generations finding out they had really dumb grandparents who thought they were masculine for murdering innocent birds and calling it a sport because they are untalented at everything else.
