Winter in Lapland Finland - A Never Ending Story | NORDIC LIFE #17

In this video, I show our winter for the past month. It involves a loooot of new snow, and frosty temperatures but also beautiful nature shows - the northern lights.
We've been waiting to get to move to our new house but it takes a few more weeks before the move. I show clips of when we visited our house for the last time before our move and got to feel what it will be like to live in a log house almost 200 years old. Yaiks...
A surprise at the very end of the video 😁
Love to you all!

All this kind of bright - really makes one think about the experience of types of light, thank you Shanna. One cannot really be lazy in such an environment and get to savour and enjoy it as much as you do

I like winter too. I would often ski at night on frozen lakes and could hear the ice moving (cracking, even though it is 30 cm thick). But now, I'd be much more careful because climate change has shortened our winter in Canada. We only have a few days of very cold (-25C) weather and the weather is much more variable. I think if I'm going to visit Finland, it would have to be during the winter, because I like winter and can't stand mosquitoes!!

Yes, we truly are. Maybe that is what makes the changing seasons so wonderful, we become grateful for them again and again since the change is so big.

Beautiful video. Thank you for letting us enjoy the Winter with you. I can well imagine that Winter can also be very difficult in certain times. ❄ How nice that you also turn on the radio for your dogs. I always do that for my dog when he has to be alone ❤ Good luck with the move to your new home

The thing about nature is that the best we can do is stop resisting it because especially winter becomes a lot harder if we spend energy at resisting it. Nature just is and that is where weather is. It's just there and the best we can do is to accept it. I always give people a visual thought experiment of when we may struggle with weather, to just imagine this: Put on your boxing gloves and try to fight the weather. What happens? As I said, nature just is and won't care if we fight it or not. It will become easier if we let go of resistance because nature is out of our control, which is why we should never spend energy at trying to control it. Personally I remember I felt so much colder in the winter when I was younger, simply because I spent so much energy at resisting it. When we are relaxed our blood flows more freely, so we will actually be warmer in the winter if we are more relaxed, and I feel that especially in my hands and feet. I know that I need to focus at my breathing when it becomes really cold, and really breathe deep down in my stomach because our breathing help transporting blood around to our whole body, which equals warmth pretty much. It's so easy if we start to shiver and freeze, that we tense up and do short breaths. That will only make us colder, which is why I've trained myself to notice when my breathing becomes shorter and shorter, so I can force myself to take longer and deeper breaths. Just this alone help your mind wake up again when it is very cold, as well as transport blood and warm you up so it at least will feel better. This is all about fight or flight, and by focusing on the breathing we are fighting and of course this is practice like everything else. All I know is I have to push my focus away from discomfort and negative feelings when things are harder, because I have to act and keep moving. By pushing focus to where it needs to be, it will releave discomfort so that hard things will feel better while we are in it. When we focus at the feeling of being cold, that will only grow and make the discomfort bigger, which is why it's obviously better to push our focus away from it and into action of doing something. I had to move out of the city and face nature to enjoy weather, and to understand everything becomes easier when we face challenges. Weather is just such a good and natural resistance to lean into to become tougher in general.
