sorry to hear you almost burned out. i was a nurse for 34 years and i know how one can get burned out. what kept me going was, in the back of mine mind, was people who could use my help. i guess a kind of a calling. i am only one in a 1,250,000 subscribers and i would have missed your adventures greatly. my wife also was a nurse for many year and had to quit related to becoming disabled; she often says she really misses nursing and the people. you may never see us but we're here. thanks for staying with us. oh, always love to see your family out with you. i hope one day to see you make a $100,000.00 haul in one day. that would be u.s. dollar haul.

You should try 100% wool glove liners from an army surplus store. I've used them for winter water stuff, and reason I like them so much is wool retains something like 70% of its insulating ability even when soaking wet. I reach right into the slushy water with the wool liners and my hands warm right back up while still wet. They dry fast too.

I second this. I've got a few pairs and they're great as liners, doubled up or solo. Another option that comes to mind is a pair of neoprene dive gloves but I'm not sure what's better as I haven't deliberately dipped the wool gloves in cold water for any length of time. I do have a pair of the standard 5mm dive gloves and they work well for a bit in cooler water around Lake Superior and in the glacial melt around BC. I'm sure Pauly's got the lowdown on the best ones for relaxing in the teal milkwater. There are slightly thinner ones(3-4mm) designed for use in colder water that would allow more dex and claim some insulation advantages from metalite. An advantage of the wool is I'm assuming there's less of the "spacesuit dexterity" you get from thicker gloves. Of course, good advice on the surplus from the material man himself!

6:05 Dan, hearing you talk about cold weather preparation reminds me of when I used to be a shellfish fisherman in Cape Cod, I would break through the ice to stand in the salt water for a few hours raking clams. I preferred the all rubberized waders over the neoprene ones, I found them more cut resistant and never seemed to have the leaks everybody else complained about (important for standing up to the brim in water). But the most I wore for warmth under them was flannel pj’s or thermals, and jeans. Top layer was a long sleeve T-shirt, maybe a flannel and a wool sweater with a wind breaker. I don’t know if you need them, but I also had gloves that went up to the arm pits, they have a strap across the back to keep them up. These really made all the difference. Hard work for little pay will keep you warm. But like you, I just loved being out in nature with my overdeveloped sense of discovery. I wonder who makes less money - a person panning for gold, or a person scraping for clams? 🤔🤪😭

Nice looking gold, Dan! I'm so glad you are able to take some time off with family and still do what you love. If you have not noticed, the old Dan is back and enjoying life! The smile on your face and spring in your step, says it all. You only have one family and everyone should make sure to enjoy them before it's too late. I lost my uncle last night. He died a few hours before my birthday. I haven't been able to see him much as he kives way down in Florida. Was that a picker I saw when you were scoping out the bank with black sands? (It was before your second pan). If you freeze the frame, it looks like a piece of gold almost in the northeast corner of the frame. Although it could be just my 👀 Thank you for sharing your adventures with us! Tell everyone in your family hello and that I'm sending warm hugs from Alabama ❤️

You're not crazy for panning in winter, you're crazy for wearing only wool socks. Great video as always.

Dan, your videos are so amazing. Take care of yourself. These fun vids are inspiring. Makes me want to go out and search my local creeks in Michigan, USA. Your positivity and words and videography are so very fun. Don't lose heart and don't feel bad for being selfish! Self care is a real thing. Love your family today and thank them for sharing yourself with us.

That Milwaukee vacuum will work just fine with a lot of water so if you had to, you could suck up the dirty at the bottom of those holes. I've used mine to drain water of of holes I've had to work in many times and it still runs great. Love the content, sir.
