Winter Fly Fishing on Yellow Breeches Creek, Wild Browns and a Huge Rainbow Trout!
The Cumberland Valley is home to a number of great limestone-influenced trout streams. Among them, Yellow Breeches Creek is perhaps at the best. With good numbers of wild trout as well as being heavily stocked with rainbows, the "Breeches" is a very high quality fishery with excellent hatches.
In this video, Justin Leidy and Ralph Scherder spend a January day on the Breeches. Although not every fish was caught on camera, one very special rainbow made the cut. Affectionately named "Tubs," this mammoth rainbow trout was a great way to start the day!

Great job capturing our winter session on The Breeches, buddy. Excellent video! Although my relationship with "Tubs" was quite brief, I will never forget my affection for her. And, the number of small wild browns stacking up in the riffles was staggering. I love fishing shallow water and The Breeches did not disappoint on that January day. What an extraordinary creek! Also, I want to give a big shout out to The Cumberland Valley Visitors Bureau. My appreciation is genuine, for without their help this trip would not have been as fulfilling. Not only was the fishing exceptional, we had beautiful accommodations and had a fun night out with delicious food and drinks at Appalachian Brewing Company and Molly Pitcher Brewing Co. Tubs was a very heavy fish, Shakeyhead0079! She definitely gave me a run for my money! Without Ralph's downstream net work, I would not have landed her so quickly. She did not have quit in her at that moment, and I was surely outgunned. I appreciate Ralph scooping her when he did because we stressed her less and returned her quickly maintaining health and strength. Long-live Tubs!
Nice! I have had horrible luck on the breeches for some reason! Never landed a Trout there yet! Only fished it a few time's. Tightlines

Hi WildBlue! So great hearing from you and super stoked you enjoyed watching this video. The Breeches is a fantastic fishery that will have me returning as a premier wintertime destination. I know that you are a talented angler, so you will certainly have exceptional fishing there. I really fell in love with the upper "Britches!" It is a wonderful wild brown trout fishery. Three words: riffles, riffles, riffles. If you love fishing shallow water as much as I do then please give Yellow Breeches another go.

@justinleidy7499 ....I have only fished near Allenberry resort and the last time it was really cold. I did not even see a fish in "the run" which is interesting. I would definitely fish it again though. Thx for the input .

@@WildBlueDiscovery Definitely check out the upper Breeches upstream of the town of Mount Holly. Ralph and I found excellent fishing and it is beautiful nymphing water. I know that the experience has me wanting to get back as soon as possible!

We were fishing upstream from Mount Holly in this particular video, but in truth, there’s not a section of the Breeches that I don’t like. All of it is excellent trout water where you can have a great day any day of the year. Thank you for watching!
