Winter Drive in Western North Carolina-(Maggie Valley, Cherokee, Mingo Falls, Soco Falls)

We took a beautiful drive up to Soco Gap, between Maggie Valley and Cherokee. We also visited Mingo Falls, and Soco Falls.
As we were washing our van off after the snow drive, I got a phone call from my cousin that I had not talked to in years. He is a former Navy SEAL and a member of the Army Delta Force. His testimony of being shot at point blank range, and his coming to Christ, is in the link below...

When I moved down here to NC in 2013, my boyfriend Bud, took me to all these places. What a beautiful trip through the Great Smoky Mountains. He loved it immediately after he moved down in 2007. We went many times over the years until his recent passing in September 2022. The last place we went together Barber Apple Orchard in Maggie Valley just two weeks before he passed. What a great time we had that day. I miss him every day and I cherish every moment we had here together.

So beautiful with the snow around Mingo Falls. It’s beautiful anytime of the year but the snow makes it special. We use to go during spring and fall, normally the 2nd or 3rd week in October. Also, nope I didn’t know about Soco Falls; it’s beautiful as well. Thank you for making me aware of this waterfall. I bet I’ve been to the Smokies over 100 times and I never knew about this waterfall. My husband and I were married there many years ago as like I said I’ve been going there since I was born. We learn something new everyday. Just like you did with Mr. Ledbetter, I’m going to hire or capture y’all next time we visit. 😂 Maggie Valley is also one of my favorite places to go. Thanks again for another awesome video.

I know this video is a year old and I'm just now watching it but I just love these types of videos. The snow, waterfalls and mountains are just beautiful. Enjoyed seeing that snowdog as well in the video, better looking than any snowman that I have seen. I'm going back and watching a lot of your older videos that I have never seen because I enjoy them so much.Thanks.

I love Maggie Valley! My mom and I used to have a trailer that we kept at Rippling Waters Park, right on Johnson Creek. It was the most relaxing place to spend the summer! We were never there in the winter though. I took my grandkids jem mining in Cherokee and white water rafting! I really enjoy that whole area.

Not quite sure how to answer this. It may very well be worth a visit, if someone is interested in that sort of thing. I guess the way we go and didn't mention it, is that's just not something that is a hobby of ours. Our main purpose in that trip, was to go and see the snowfall.

She was born in the Smokies; graduated from her tiny k-12 with letters and ribbons for her school sweater. She went to a very small college, turned around in class and asked me question. 60+ years latter I had to lay her to her rest up on Water Rock Knob, NC, where she claimed me. Wonderful mountains. Wonderful girl. Wonderful marriage. The Smokies viewed from up high are blue and smoke. From the ground they are dark and deep. When we courted the Smokies were lonely and very wild. And still are.

Sure did enjoy the adventure..the snow and scenery are breathtaking. Next time we drive up to the Waynesville area, we will try Haywood Smokehouse. We visited Waynesville last summer (August), but just for the day. I’m already planning our mini vacations for this year, so excited to see what we can come up with. That motel looks really quaint, so we will be booking a room there for sure later this year. In mid October, we will be driving to Phoenix for two weeks. My in laws live there. Thank y’all so much for sharing your trips. God Bless.

There’s a parking lot downtown waynesville. It’s near sweet onions. You turn down a side street and it’s back behind mast general and near sweet onions back in there, just for future reference That was a gorgeous video! Y’all did a lot that day! When I lived in bryson city, I use to go over so I, thru Maggie valley one way to waynesville n come home on Interstate (depending how my light for the day was going with getting home) or the blue ridge parkway. Gorgeous! Y’all got some beautiful scenery and shots. as a local, it’s usually no parking or im in a mission to get to waynesville (rarely go unless dr appt or need a big box store) and get home. Now thst I live in franklin, I miss that part so much! It is a beautiful part of the world. It’s getting so busy though! In newspaper , says our taxes increasing as much as 59% average. I pay city and county. They are always raising insurance and taxes. Anyways… traffic etc. I keep weighing out selling n going so where where I can buy a nicer home for same amount. Then I see a video like this and think how fortunate am I to live here?!?! Then I think how I never go access it anymore. So… it’s the old thing of what do you do. Either way, it is beautiful and yall sure did capture it well!

When you pulled into haywood and they were closed… I can’t tell ya how many times I go places and they are closed. Especially in winter. It’s Frustrating. I use to drive over there and go and loved it! Then they opened in dillsboro and went there cause closer. Now it’s in franklin so when I go that way I eat something different. However, I will say none have been as good as waynesville, the mothership! That’s just how it goes though! Dillsboro is more consistent than franklin. Id go there if given the day and time. Franklin was great when they first opened! Best brisket I ever had! However, it’s just never been quite the same. Not putting them down… id just not travel to come to franklin. I would travel to go to waynesville though! Lol even all these over 10 years later.

The thing with western nc snow is funny. If it’s gonna snow, people go get light bread, milk and ground beef and while up inside and make chili and no school or work. Then when it snows they get out and drive around. Then it ets in a matter of hours or less and all resumes. I kid you not! Ive lived it, and still live it lol Anywho…. Most restaurants are closed on mondays so be careful if that also. I usually just call ahead at this point with covid and staffing etc Let your fingers do the walking Yeah- strange world since covid with eveyrthing! The snow thing is not a covid thing though. Lol
