Winter/cold weather stealth truck camping with a diesel heater! At Costco?
Recently I installed a Chinese diesel heater in the back of my 2019 Chevy Silverado. For a quick test run, I stealth camped overnight at Costco.
For those asking, here is a link to the specific diesel heater I installed:

I can't believe it took me so long to actually find and start watching your channel. I've seen it as a suggestion many times, but I have so many other content providers that I watch already, I just didn't think I needed to add another one. however, none of my regular guys are posting anything right now, so I figured I'd check you out. I saw where your channel name came from and immediately subscribed and started watching videos. we live in the same town. in fact, I'm just about a half a mile north of where you made this video, off Cole road. crazy coincidence. anyway, I like what I've seen so far and will continue to pay attention to your channel. thanks for posting.

Thanks for the detailed temperature info, that’s what I was looking for. I think you can switch the control to a temperature setting. It will be in Celsius, but 20°C is about 68°F and the unit will ramp itself up or down to get the temperature setting.

Good stuff. Hope that diesel heater works out for you long term. I too can't stand the Buddy heaters which is what I use now, they are so inefficient and the condensation is the worst. My friend uses a small electric 750/1500W space heater (which he runs by a generator outside the truck) which really works great and I was considering going that route. Obviously that wouldn't work for stealth camping but I don't do any of that anyway. I may have to look in to these diesel heaters a little more though. Keep us updated on it.

If I know I'll have access to an outlet, such as in a campground, I like the electric heater too. I have a small space heater with a thermostat that works very well. The issue is only a few of the campgrounds out west in my area have power. But electric is definitely the easiest in that case. Thanks for watching, it's appreciated!
These are great little heaters , I have one in my truck camper and live in my camper full time in the mountains living my ski bum life ...but they are not stealthy at all , they do have aloud start up phase and the fuel pump clicks away loudly when running ....other than that a great little heater ....

Stealth is more difficult but not totally out of the question. My 2KW is pretty quiet on a low setting. That said, they still make noise. I'm sure the larger units are louder. As far a s the pump, I got creative and it's pretty quiet now. Basically mounted it in a enclosed box with foam surrounding it (waterproof camera box). Thanks for watching!
Helpful information, thanks 👽

Wanting to do camping in this fashion traveling between Florida property and home in Iowa. Not against using a campground if absolutely necessary but it would be nice to just park somewhere, relax, eat, sleep, and back on the road. The diesel heater seems like a must have item for the time of year I’m traveling, usually fall/winter. Liked and subbed!

Thanks for watching. The diesel heater was a fun little project but it’s not practical for everyone. If you’re going to use it, it’s a great addition to a truck bed. Sounds like it would work for you. Safe travels!

Nothing that a little patch welded in can’t fix if you ever sell the truck
I use something similar in my big rig. I would suggest buying a tuneup kit to keep on hand. The filter on the unit will clog up over time and the fuel pump can go out. I keep a backup heater in case I need it. Like all the videos you are sharing.

It seems to be getting tougher and tougher to find places that allow overnight parking. I utilize parking lots to sleep on my road trips and fishing adventures. 10 years ago, there were a lot less "No overnight parking" signs. Now, it takes me a bit to find a place depending on where I'm at. Luckily truck stops are still an option. Thanks for watching.

This was a great video! I'm in the process of building out my truck for camping and overlanding. I was wondering if a diesel heater could be used in a camper shell, and how well it would work. I've lived near this Walmart for about 15 years now, and I used to shop there a lot. before the pandemic of course. anyway, I used to always see RVs parked out in the southeast corner of the parking lot. I don't know if the sign saying no parking are new, or they just don't really care about enforcing them.

Have you taken this out to use your truck yet? It would me interesting to see how long it takes and how you deal with the hole.
I would consider your stealth trip a success however you might want to re engineer the pump. There was a cotinous low thumping noise throughout the whole video! If I didn't know any better it sounded like the bass beat in one of the brotha's ghetto cruiser! 🤣😅

I didn't run mine like that but I'm guessing you could. If you watch my recently added video, I show in more detail how the heater is mounted and set up. As far as fuel goes, it maybe used 1/4 to 1/3 of a gallon to run all night (8 ish hours). Thanks for watching!
Nice video, does the heater shut off and does it make the clicking noise ?
@Outside605
2 жыл бұрын
It doesn't shut off unless you turn it off. It does have a timer function that shuts it off after a set amount of time though. I recently added another video which shows how I quieted down the clicking fuel pump. The pump clicks fairly loudly unless you get creative with mounting it. Mine is in a padded camera hard case that works well. Thanks for watching!

From an engineer standpoint if that's a fuel line making that noise. You need to put a massive fitting in-between the main line to the heater. That way it's not sucking so hard to get fuel it will stop thuding. Not too long but long enough to where fuel can be stored between the heater itself and the main line. That should stop the auction thuding.
@Outside605
2 жыл бұрын
It's the fuel pump itself that makes the noise.
I would pick Walmart and you can meet some "friends"
What's the pounding in the background. It's boom boom boom boom etc. I couldn't sleep with that pounding if that's the heater.
@Outside605

It’s my mic that’s extremely sensitive. The pump makes a little noise but barely audible at all. The mic really amplifies the actual noise. Thanks for watching
