i did my first winter camp last year and it was always flurries. I wondered if it was moisture rising out of unfrozen surrounding lakes/rivers then turning to flurries at a certain point. The immediate lake beside me was frozen but waterways on the trip in were not. I don't know if this happens...i mean it is a sort of lake effect snow i guess. This night footage is about the most amazing footage I've seen. I couldn't relax if I knew a wolf was in the vicinity. especially outside a tent. Awesome again Maxim.

I've only got a smartphone and GoPro for now, but which type of camera would you recommend to take better footage at night, and still handle the elements? Keep on truckin', Max.
@maximbudnick
Жыл бұрын
So I recently started using a Sony A7 IV with a sigma 16mm 1.4 lens. If you have the budget and you are looking for low light camera specifically for videography the king is the Sony A7 s III. If you are on a budget and filming a lot of low light camping stuff I would suggest buying lights first ( lume cube panel pro or panel mini). If you are looking for a good all around budget camera I would highly suggest the Sony rx 100. It is not good in low light (but no cheaper cameras are) but this will give you amazing footage in 90% of the situations you need. Thanks for dropping by!

@@maximbudnick Sorry to hijack this comment. There seem to be several versions of the Sony RX 100, ranging in price from 300-1100 bucks in my area. I'm guessing you mean the RX 100 III (2014), the cheapest, right?

Hey! I’ve been watching your videos for a while now; love your work. I’m wondering, how did you initially become comfortable camping solo? I’m a female in my 20’s and I want to go out more often but I have several fears (more of humans than nature/wildlife) and I’m not sure how to make myself more comfortable. Thanks! Cheers!
@maximbudnick
Жыл бұрын
Hello! Its awesome that you want to go solo. It really is different in a good way then travelling with someone else. I would start by researching other females in your position and I would familiarize yourself with the story of some of the females who go solo camping all the time ( Alexis Outdoors comes to mind ) Just by watching them consistently and asking them questions about your concerns will be a good way to ease your mind. Second suggestion is invest in items to give you peace of mind. Buy a gps emergency device also bring bear spray. The issue with most bear spray bottles is they are too large to carry around all the time I find. If humans are your main concern you can get a more discrete pepper spray canister - not that you will ever use it but it will give you peace of mind. I also encourage you to take a hard look at statistics - though its advisable all solo woman to have a bit of extra caution I have never heard of any females having any trouble in the backcountry in my area. Finally I would suggest you get your logistic right. Plan trips at first that give you the option of bailing out. Either go to campgrounds with a lot of people in the area or no people in the area. I spend a lot of time before each trip figuring it all out. Planning will help give you peace of mind. In all my years in the backcountry I have never met someone who gave me the creeps most people who camp are very cool and worth spending a minute chatting too and will want to help you out. Sorry for the essay, I hope that helps!

Honest opinion: Silky or Agawa?
@maximbudnick
Жыл бұрын
Hard to say - Agawa is better ergonomics Silky has the better blade. If I was pushed I would say agawa 24" is the best though the silky katana boy is a close second. But I would go agawa 24" for big stuff and a small silky handy for trail clearing on portages.

Ir's okay to take a tent. Make your videos a little longer please. Did you bring snacks or were you fasting? If so, why?
@maximbudnick
Жыл бұрын
Hi Dusty. My intention is to make longer videos - there are just many things that can go wrong with filming and editing, so sometimes the final result is shorter than I intended. The next video is in production and should be longer :) It's often nice to not have to deal with the weight and hassle of bringing a tent. And I was not fasting - just didn't good shots of my food this time. Thanks for watching, Dusty! Cheers!

i did my first winter camp last year and it was always flurries.

@maximbudnick
@bali4n1

Thanks! Cheers!
@maximbudnick
Жыл бұрын

@maximbudnick
If so, why?
@maximbudnick
Жыл бұрын
Cheers!
