Another fabulous video. Clearly he is a seasoned outdoorsman and he knows what he is doing. If he did not want to be found, then building a fire, no matter it’s size, would be out of the question. You see, the scent can be smelt miles away, and by following that scent the outdoorsman/women, will, not might, be found. It is like a beacon.

I have the same survival hatchet. For being so light it works great.

Now that is a nicely built shelter.

I love all of the outbackers & woodland treckers taking breaks from society to make minni huts & live a simple life. I know the way it feels to put the effort & energy into building a minni hut & the relaxing feeling of acomplishment wen the building is done. I miss doing that.

For the chimney, I always wondered why people don't finish the top. For example, put rocks on three points and then one large flat but thinner rock on top of the pile so it blocks any potential rain coming in while allowing any smoke out.

Many bush crafters do 'finish' the top in that way. Check out Athos the Prospector for examples. Here, the idea is to discourage debris from blowing in when the builder is using other places.

I love the way you hunted a wild chicken, killed it, de-feathered it, butchered it, cooked it with vegetables you grew yourself, and went looking for a salt outcrop to get your seasoning. Brilliant, and not one shop in sight.

I have been hoping to see you visit this cabin again! It makes a fine winter shelter, once you hike up to it through the deep snow. It seems you may get more snowfall than rain each year.

Suggestion, add about 2 feet, 61 cms to height of your chimney, it will help draft and prevent smoke being drawn back into cabin, through door.

Thank you for the comment. The stones of the fireplace were not damaged in the fire. I'm not sure, but it could be sandstone.

Stones the worst insulation. It draw damp & cold. However, woods the best insulation. Build a log cabin with a stone fireplace.
