Winter Bushcraft Hike - No Sleeping Bag - Natural Shelter in Snowfall - Lavvu Poncho
Out Bushcrafting and hiking off trail for two days in the snow. First night I slept a couple hours at a time then went up and tended to the fire. Had to go get another log in the early hours and got some nice shot at the night sky with the moon etc. -10 celsius. I love the air when its this cold. If you wonder why I put snow on the saw handle: it froze to ice during the night: Check out the different performance sawing with it day one and two! Weight and stability.
ATTENTION: Being under an uproot can be very dangerous. Never take shelter under a fresh uproot if your life doesn't depend on getting out of the wind etc. It can be very dangerous as they can snap shut again if the tree breaks and weight balance shift. This was an old one that's been like this for more than a year but its still not something I advise people to do. Being around widow makers, even though not directly above, is never 100% safe. It is a calculated risk. As everything is really but sometimes we forget that. A snow bivouac for example. They can be very dangerous if the air intake in the roof gets blocked by snow when you sleep etc. Not to speak about the car ride to site on icy roads alone in the wild without cell phone coverage. In short: This is an emergency shelter. Not to be tried for fun, even though I did it, it was my choice alone. Thanks for watching!
As always I bring materials to site for crafting if not on my own or friends land.

Bushcraft is a skillset. It's not mandatory as a bushcrafter to go naked to the woods and trying to survive. To do that every week is a unrealistic fantasy. The way I see it, bushcraft skills make hiking and camping more efficient, lightweight and interesting... and not to forget FUN!.

I watch your winter videos over and over. They are so relaxing.
Snow is so cozy. When I was a kid we had a major storm that dropped 3+ feet within a day. The weight of the snow on the trees in one of my neighbor's yards bent them over and created a natural igloo-like shelter. I made my little fort inside it and started digging tunnels from it around the neighborhood. I'd pop up in random peoples' yards like a mole, scaring old ladies and dogs. Oh I miss being a kid in a snowstorm.
I often play like this with my children but in our bedroom pretending the blanket is our tent and snow storm outside 😄 so glad found this video, just like a dream come true.

Finally someone understands the importance of conserving ones energy. All videos posted on the internet from cold climates has people sawing logs into small pieces suitable for wood stoves. The practice of sawing firewood is to saw as little as possible, feeding longer lengths progressively into the fire. Less sawing means less energy expended. This is a very good video. God bless.

While I appreciate the natural shelter, I would have lashed down the trees as a little more safety, in my opinion this is what they call a widow maker shelter. Because if for some reason the trees re stand your done! Please keep it safe!

Awesome video! I'm glad to see someone else using a Norwegian Ruck Sack. It is my favorite bushcraft backpack and holds everything I need for a winter camping adventure. At 4:55 you reminded me of the Grim Reaper as you foraged for firewood. We hardly ever get a good snow here in Virginia and it's been five years since a Nor'easter delivered the last one. After Christmas I plan to head into the mountains of eastern West Virginia to explore the region. At 73 I need to get as many adventures in on foot before I totally get into overland camping. It's fun but there's certain exciting elements missing like a sense of survival while "lost" deep in the woods and mountains. My cardiologist recommended I quit after placing four stents in my heart. It's hard to consider it as I've been backpacking since age 10. That's a cool spot you found. I usually avoid spots like that as they're filled with water most times. I have camped under huge fallen trees after making a debris lean to. I really enjoy your videos.
Absolutely fantastic. I love the silence.

Very nice video, simply beautiful nature in Sweden. When I am on the road, I always have at least two or three thin plastic sheets with me. Three by four meters. Hardly any weight and do not take up much space. Add a roll of kitchen aluminum foil and you can build a Not Shelter very quickly. Works well and has helped me a lot, especially in winter and rain. The feet in a plastic bag where you put the foil. Helps very well, especially on short trips. Greetings from Frankfurt
