Winning America's Most Beautiful Roadster... on Accident
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Brad drops by Squeeg’s Kustoms in Chandler, Arizona to visit with Doug Jerger, a second generation custom painter. The guys sit down to talk hot rods, inspiration, a lifelong career building cars AND capturing the title of America’s Most Beautiful Roadster...accidentally.
Yep. A weekend planned to just drink a few beers, promote the shop and hang out goes all sorts of sideways when the gang wins the biggest prize. It's fascinating and entertaining all at once, and truly sums up what this hot rod thing is all about.
From humble beginnings as a car-crazy kid to owning one of the top custom shops in the country, it’s a candid look behind the scenes of the hot rod hobby like no other.

What a Genuine Nice Guy, Doug Jerger is. Honest hard work combined with artistic talent, skills and abilities learned over the decades. Then humble enough to say that he looks up to the people who have gone before him. One of life's, and Hot Rods, good Guys!
Oh cool that’s the way it out to be just enjoy what you doing bring value to it and a lot of happiness
What a terriffic story! It couldn't of happened to a better guy.
I did a total of 4.5 thousand hours of this level of work on a car back in the day and I can honestly say I would never do it again. Once something is “done” at this level you can see how time alone ravishes your work. Just sitting in a sealed container for transport and the work looks beat up. When something is “perfect” it doesn’t take much to ruin it. I’m into ratty muscle cars that become rustomods, that become restomods, now, where I can basically always still drive the car as things progress. People always say my work is show car quality and I just have to laugh. They have no idea.
Sounds EXACTLY like what it was like working with MY Dad... He broke a bolt taking a waterpump off a Toyota Landcruiser once. He quietly went and got a big hammer and beat the crap out of the Radiator and the Core Support then told me to get the rest of the bolt out. Then he walked in the house, got a Beer, sat in his Recliner and watched the TV for the rest of the night until I got the bolt out. Then he came back out to finish the pump replacement but I had already done it... All he did was smile and went back in the house...

Apparently, you guys had all the fun!
Ok you guys got me with the credits at the end. Squiggy? But I'd love to see that entire patina five window chevy. I love that old cracked paint, a little rust, and super shiny polished wheels. You guys are Great!.

Such a cool story.back in the 80's when I started working in the Ford dealers I remember a young beginner tech had to earn his right of passage with the "old, grumpy" guys that had paid their dues.i remember them chewing me out when asking to borrow a tool, you learned quick that you don't borrow tools, hence the weekly snap on bill for the next 20 years.
