Amber made a really good point in a "the jury speaks" video. She said she felt like Natalie was the winner of the edge, but Tony was the winner or survivor. I agree with this statement 100%, and I really respect Amber for making that distinction.

The problem I have with the advantages in the return challenge is that not everyone had a chance to gain the advantages. For example, Jeremy and Nick lasted a significant amount of time in the game and had no chance to gain the tokens, but the first boot Natalie had 33 days to gain 14 tokens. It's almost like getting voted out after lasting much longer in the game causes you to have a disadvantage when it comes to returning.

I think to solve that, they should've madr a rule of stop bequeathing the fire tokens (when voted out) after a certain amount of people were left. I think this would've been more fair for the late booteers who were unable to participate in any challenges in the edge.

But I mean people like boston Rob making comments repeatedly about how natalie being first out gave her such an advantage...his wife was there 23 hours later and didn't earn herself one single token for 39 days. Rob didn't get there but a week max after her and didn't have anything to show for it at the end. People like Jeremy tho and Nick, they're the ones who just didn't have time or opportunity to earn them because of the timing of their eliminations which does really blow

The EOE has some kinks to work out like perhaps players voted out of the game, should be allowed to keep their Fire tokens with them, rather than bequeath them to players still in the game. However, Natalie spending 33 days on EOE and earning 14 fire tokens, should NOT be discounted or seen as such a huge Advantage, because she arrived there first, when players that arrived shortly after her: - Amber had 32 days to earn fire tokens (zero) - Dani had 31 days to earn fire tokens (zero) - as did all the other 11 returnee players that earned Fire tokens like Perv, Boston Rob, Wendell, Tyson, Yul, Sophie, - None were even close to earning 14 tokens

Receiving no votes is impressive, to just shrug that off is dumbfounding. We are talking about a mastermind and big threat never having one vote against him. That's not an accident and shows how much control over the game that Tony had.

It shows how Tony is was socially masterful. He was able to gain Jeremy’s trust. And Tony won because he changed his game play. In the beginning he did not look for idols during the daytime, he made social connections so he knew how to work with them. Also the downside of Jeremy’s game was he was so stuck on how he won the first time with the meat shield. I just did not see him looking for cracks when he was on the bottom and being targeted.

The thing with the advantages on EoE is that Natalie has an advantage at getting advantages because she was there for so long because she was voted off first. So she was rewarded by being voted out before the other people. That's the biggest thing I don't like.

That does hold truth, however it speaks to Natalie's work ethic that people like Amber who got there 23 hours after Nat, and Boston Rob only 6-7 days after day 1 on the edge still weren't able to earn any tokens to gain them advantages in the final challenge, Amber not a single token the whole time despite being there day 2. The inherent problem with EoE in my eyes, is that what Jeff calls the outlast. In recent years, at FTC, Jeff always mentions the outlast portion and the final 3 putting the right people on the jury to vote for them. This season in EoE, Natalie only actually voted out 2 people. Denise and Ben. That’s the biggest problem in my eyes because someone voted out day 1 to come back and vote out 2 people didn’t burn nearly any bridges with the jury as someone like Tony. I’m really glad tony did pull out the 12 votes and the win. He deserved it! Natalie is also a beast, it’s crazy.

I understand Ben. He ran out of gas emotionally. He cracked. Tears were real. He wanted out of the game. His self respect at that point was greater than the 2 million bucks. The game weighs on people more at different times. Probst is a great host. I like him as a host, but he comes across as a smug, pompous, ass. Sandra is a 2x winner already. She should have stayed home. The mustard came off her hot dog in this game. Boston Rob and Amber should just stayed at home and just be a happy couple and great parents. Natalie played her ass off. She played every challenge that came her way. She played herself back into the game. She did well, but she did not make the connections to the jury that Tony did. There’s no way you should win the game after being voted out against someone who hasn’t been voted out. Getting to live and camp in misery with the jury is biggest advantage in the game. When I get to play one day, I have a strategy to do if EoE is in play. Get voted out first, work my butt off to accumulate as many fire tokens as possible on the edge of extinction, save up all my tokens for the finale’s return challenge. Win that challenge and get back in with an idol that I bought before the challenge. Save that idol for the final 5 and try to get the votes on someone else to get to the final 5, play my idol on myself getting myself to the final 4. Win immunity, get taken, or win fire to get to the final 3, then get the majority of the jurors to vote me to win through my campaigning skills.

Tony and Sarah may have split votes... and Natalie could have possibly scraped enough jury votes to be competitive. Survivor is inherently a game largely based on risk and she needed that risk to get the jury behind her. The moment Boston Rob said "why don't you go against Tony then?" Was the moment she should have known the jury was giving her a chance to win the game. I just rewatched season 1. I love it! It was so raw. Would love to hear you review it. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts and memories from season 1. Looking back on it now, you were the only one playing to win in my opinion. As far as the no votes thing, I agree with you and so did Rudy. He says the night he was voted out “they forgot about me and I wasn’t getting any votes but then tonight I got one vote but it was fatal one.” The only votes that actually counts are the fatal ones. I also wish you were on this season. It would have been fun watching you play again. I will say I enjoyed the jury asking real questions and not just being hateful. First season I have seen that. Maybe because they understand how the game is played and didn’t hold on to things (votes) so personally. What’s your take on final 2 vs final 3? I personally like final 2 way better. I always feel badly for the 3rd person just sitting there not receiving any votes at all. Michelle has so much to be proud of she fought from an underdog position the entire time and never gave up. I think she played even better this season that the season she won in. But it was painful watching her receive no votes. Tony 100% deserved the win in my opinion, his game was on point but why makes 3rd place sit there and be “ humiliated” why not put them on the jury and give them some power in the game...

It's been automatically removed three times, automatically, despite the fact I've followed all the sub's rules and triple checked to make sure. I've put in a complaint and asked for a reason, but if that link has been blackballed for absolutely no reason, or for criticism of the producers/Jeff, then something is rotten in the state of Denmark. I posted it with the intention to discuss what you've sad - not vocalising any opinion either way. Perhaps there's something I'm missing - but you raised points that are SO worth discussing. The mafia secretly vote people out of the game from the town. The mafia win when they have more people then the town. A few of the town people can have unique roles. The game alternates between 2 phases. 1 phase the town has their eyes closed while the mafia vote, and a 2nd phase when everyone tries to identify and remove the mafia before losing the game. The goal of the mafia is deceive people and blend in. It can be hard to be town also because if you try and make strategic moves and discuss voting and accusations more openly then people will become falsely suspicious. You can usually see a difference in skill between people that have played before, because they pick up on mistakes about how to act and moves that can be made such as claiming to be a certain town role or accuse a fellow mafia member. I think you would like it because it involves reading people and respecting game play that good but dishonest in the spirit. The melee community has the best Mafia content. Some examples of great moments (A fun ending, down to the last vote, with conflicted players ) kzread.info/dash/bejne/mXps1ct9hbmng7Q.htmlh52m20s or (an amazing call out /read on the mafia) kzread.info/dash/bejne/oWuWyLGee7aqhpM.html

I feel the issue with edge of extinction is that a player who did worse (getting voted out first) has many more opportunities to gain those advantages. Nick did really well to survive being voted out for a long time, and his reward was having exactly 0 opportunities to get the same advantages players who got voted out earlier would have.

I actually think the big problem with EoE isn't that you can get voted out and still win, I think the problem is you don't have to vote others out. A key concept of survivor that makes it great is that you have to vote people out, and then convince them to give you a million dollars, even though you sent them packing. It is a fundamental part of the game. Natalie didn't have to vote anyone out. That makes it a lot easier to get people to like you.

I don't like EoE, but I'm glad it was a part of this particular season, because we had to see a lot more of our favourites. But the advantages on edge had to be dealt with differently - not really fair that those who get first boots have a major advantage against those who are voted off later. EDIT: Also, why didn't Natalie & Michelle made Denise and Sarah make fire in the final 6? Sarah was clearly more of a threat, would be good for Natalie and Michelle to have her gone.

Redemption island not only was hard on the players, but the duels were competitive and entertaining. I don’t want to see players sitting around starving on the edge. Jeff allegedly said “I wouldn’t feel comfortable having Hatch come back considering what he did in the past. I don’t think the allegations made for someone years ago should exclude them from playing a game like this. People lie, cheat, manipulate, hurt others emotionally, psychologically. It just doesn’t make sense that he would say that when this game itself is so dark. But I do understand that, he and producers likely feel it may affect their ratings. Which sucks because I really want to see Richard Hatch back in the game.

It makes sense that having no votes technically doesn't matter, because you're right, it really doesn't in terms of the result of the game. If you didn't go home, you didn't go home, whether you got 10 votes or 0 votes. That's it. However, I am shocked that you think it deserves absolutely no praise at all. I think it shows true dominance and control over the game. He played so flashy and dominant and still shook the target off his back. No one even took a shot at him, despite how overtly dominant he was, and that is definitely on account of how he played and how he talked to his cast-mates. If you look at it like a sport, what's more impressive? A football game with a score of 30-31 or 0-31? Surely 0-31 is much more impressive and dominant, at least from a game-play perspective, even if it might not be as fun or exciting. I get that it is not a perfect analogy, but the point is that no one ever even got a score on Tony (that being damaging his game at all). That would be like the defense of a football team stopping any attempts at at any forward motion. That is dominant as hell. He had a great offensive game, but I think you aren't giving enough praise to his defensive game.

  • @Broadway_Ben

    1) I don’t know this for sure but I’m pretty sure producers control the number of advantages in the game so this doesn’t happen: there is never more than 3 idols in the game and idols expire at 5 (3 idols + 1 immunity necklace is only 4 people immune) and other advantages typically expire at 6. So I don’t think that could happen. 2) Everyone is eligible for a rock draw, and the person who goes home is chosen at random. 3) Not possible, the number of people on Jury is never a multiple of 3. In theory this could happen on an edge season, where jurors can “leave” the game and give up their spot as a juror. But since Edge will never come back I doubt this will ever be a possibility again.

One thing I took away from ponderosa reinforces your idea of Ben "quitting." It seems that if that really was a move that Sarah flipped on Ben, Ben ruined it because he told the Jury at Ponderosa that he told her it was okay for her to do it! I feel if Sarah got to the end, that would have majorly taken away from that move.

Image someone like ozzy lusth. I think to prevent that they should cut the edge twist off at the jury stage simmiler to how they did the outcasts twist. I also believe the jury would NOT have rewarded Nat with a win IF she went against Tony in the fire making challenge and won. These 'past winners' are too smart to reward a player who was voted out at first TC and enter the game later on and get to the F3. I believe that is why Michelle did not get any votes. The jury 'probably' wanted to make sure that Tony won because(they eventually found out) there were votes for Natalie for the win. They thought "NO WAY WILL A FIRST BOOT WIN!!"
