Wings of change: New Wing Designs for Electric Aviation
Ғылым және технология
In this video we are going to look at three new wing designs that can benefit Electric Aviation. These are the Fanwing, the X-Wing and the Truss Braced Wings.
The fanwing is significant because of its high lifting efficiency and USTOL feature

The advantage of the fan wing for agriculture is that once inverted, it can be used as a combine.

Hahaha..Good one. Yup two in one harvester and crop duster
This video series is by far the best technical overview of electric aviation on the web. The sanity check calculations show deep subject knowledge without distracting from the story. I'm watching these in sequence from start to finish to understand the industry trend. Brilliant.
Thanks for bringing your own narration back!

@@ElectricAviation >>> FWIW, while you do have a _'detectable'_ accent {or dialect?}, your commend of English is JUST FINE...👍👍 A _REAL_ human voice doing narration is IMHO _always better_ than a synthetic one.
People who have been looking at the covers of magazines like Popular Science since the 1930's will recognize these designs.

Great content, excellent presentation, fact filled and extremely well done. It is also awesome for what it doesn't do: no music, no trivial or peripheral comments, no editorializing. Please continue with this beautiful and educational work. Your recipe is perfect.
Interesting topic, thanks for your video
Fantastic video, I didn’t know any of those designs! Keep with the good work!

Looks like everyone is saying it already, but its nice to hear your own voice again! These new concepts look NUTS, kinda reminiscent of how the first airplane prototypes were so often kinda fugly or silly looking, so its interesting to think of how each of these concepts might mature and change in appearance over time.
I like the density ratio of information by second of this channel, congrats!
Talking about wing aspect, the "wing-grid" study used multiple wings at the wing tip: it increase the wing aspect, while the wing is smaller and also improve wing tip vortexes...

Very interesting. The high aspect ratio braced wing project is reminiscent of the Hurel-Dubois HD34 which served for years with the French Institut géographique national (IGN) for aerial photographies.
As always, really cool stuff!
Well done, a really good presentation, and at last as a glider pilot i now understand what a high aspect ratio wing is; thankyou for the lesson, brilliant. j

With aviation it's the same with biology: there is evolution. If a configuration would have made sense, it still would exist. When I studied aircraft engineering and build model planes, I understood why planes look the way they do. Because it makes the most sense. Easy to manufacturers, to calculate, maintain, ground handling etc. There are a whole bunch more factors to measure how good a design is then just fuel efficiency. Most of the time the other factors dominate. But I'm very interested to see other designs pop up. Especially with eVTOL.

Well said. Great video. I’m also really interested in eVTOL and eSTOL.
Great video - thank you sir!
The "flying flapjack" of WW2 era does the same thing as the fan wing but is much simpler and has high top speed. Thanks for bringing Macro fiber composite to my attention. It would be ideal for the idea of a "heart assist jacket" that would fit around a weakened heart and constantly give a heart assist/massage.
Always interesting analysis, thank you!
The Aeronautics part of NASA is very interesting. The Mars helicopter idea happened because of decades of research and experiments.
Always enjoy your videos! hope you're well :)

I just saw a new patented design called Transwing. This is worth a video! Complete radical design that changes the transition from vertical to horizontal flight. I follow your videos and thorough investigation. Hope you can watch it and make a new video.

It's very interesting new concepts. Thank you for your movie.
Trussed wings are basically the oldest idea out there. Just compare with biplanes. Many trussed wings are operational with light aircraft. Causes much drag at high velocities. Great video, didn't know about the fan wing

The fanwing definitely reminds me of a flying lawn mower :D. But im sure it performs great for STOL and saves good amount of energy in flight too. Ps Im quite a fan of Popular Mechanics as well :)

Most comprehensive overview of what's coming aircraft wise on KZread. Hats off sir...
keep churning those videos - very informative. Thx. Don't know if you have already done videos on Vertical Axis Wind Turbines. I find them fascinating.... to use in medians of the highways along with Pressure Sensitive roads to generate electricity. Throw in thin film Perovskite Solar Panels in that. Would be just PERFECT !!!

The Channel Wing might work well as an electric too, gear it way down so it can spin a big high pitch prop.

The latest video on Synergy Files (my other channel) is on a bladeless wind turbine. You can check that out
6:23 Too much to go wrong. And it won't work without the more complex changable aerofoil. But what about twin contra rotating rotors slowed to the rpm where the receding (backwards airflow) blades have the least impact and airspeed for those blades is slow.?. I reckon they could convert the Sikorski RAIDER to one of those, fairly easily. Just A certain slower rpm rotor option and some extra fancy software on its FBW rotor blade pitch control.
I winder if rtuss brace wing can be combine with cross flow fan, not fot the purpose of lift as this will slow down the plain , but as distributed trust. The inlet or outlet will need to be redirected by 90 degree so they are on the same refrence plain. The diameter will be much smaler to fit inside the wing.
Please 🙏 make detailed videos on electrical system of electric aircrafts

Yes I also feel it has a lot of potential
I have a model magazine from the 1930s with a fan wing.... nothing new here. Its an extremely high drag wing and its heavy. Modern materials reduces the weight issue. Pou de' Ceil, also from the 1930s, proved tandem wings had efficiency improvements at a cost of certain control issues. Too fast with the tandem wing drives the nose down due to amplifying the rear wing lift. It can be impossible to pull out of the resulting dive.

There is the BMW wingsuit. It has a very limited flight time. I have it in my list of topics but its down the order.
I think that battery technology won't be lighter than hydrogen tanks and fuel cells in the near future, so I highly doubt that electrical planes by Boing or Airbus will come with batteries as the main energy source in the near future.
The market has not been disrupted. Classical design works and new technology has to be more specific than you state to be of use. Lifting body designs are being researched. Multi billion dollar industries working at the leading edge of technology have more to consider than simple model airplane designs. Mass air transportation has safety and reliability considerations that limit all other concerns in reality. Adoption isn't done at the flip of a coin.
That’s a lot of rotating mass, requiring a respective amount of energy.
One Bird or a small stone and its uncontrollable !!! Splat ( Fanwing ) , I like the other concepts

The fan-wing seems like a cool concept until you have an engine failure with the glide ratio of a brick...
@shannono.5835
2 жыл бұрын
I read it’s better than a brick… just shorter than a fixed wing. They were using auto-rotation like a helo to slow the descent
These projects look like money burners. Ag planes need maneuverability and the open fan wing doesn't look like a good choice for that. Today in science it is hard to believe anyone's claims and the open fan wing just doesn't look very efficient.. We got away from struts to reduce drag and now somehow we are going to put them back on to reduce drag. You pointed out in another video that mounting props on the tips can effectively increase the aspect ratio. That idea is being utilized on at least two new electrics. Where do these people get the money?
Your opening argument fundamentally wrong: not only do you basically contradict yourself later on but two of the three wing concepts do not seem suitable for commercial passenger aviation. All three are only becoming relevant because of the actual reason limiting progress: technology Of course mainstream aviation design is convergent but commerce, R&D costs and technology have been more important than regulation. Personally I feel that advances computation, materials and electric power have combined to make today the most exciting and innovative time in aviation since the early war jet age Actual technical content very good, would have liked more detail about tandem fanwings. Also, CHAPTERS
No futuro a gent usará rreator de h1
Feel sorry for the birds.
Oh goody! Three more public swindles...
With such a narrow wing the allowable CG range will be very small , possibly ok for dry cargo , but not for passengers , 10 , 300 pound passengers suddenly going to the bathroom in the rear of the plane could result in a disaster.
The comercial manufacturers arent really innovative , they pretend to be , but leave the revolutionary stuff to these "concept companies "
wings of fantasy until we sort our air water and soils out .
What is the narrator talking about? What is a ving? I never heard of it.
Paddle wheel aircraft, what a joke.
Good lord it’s hideous looking
