In the Mandarin version of Way Of The Dragon Bruce Lee does in fact loop his own dialogue for his character during one particular scene and he does it in English. It's the part where Tang Lung is struggling to read the numbers on a business card in English to a telephone operator while using a pay phone. He nervously reads the first couple of numbers to the operator "3 and 5" just before becoming frustrated and hanging up the phone because he doesn't know how to say the remaining numbers on the card in English. I read this in an article about him many years ago back in the 90s.

Been a fan of Bruce since my childhood and this was really cool and educational to see this, especially as I am into making movies. It would be great to see a new cut of Game of Death with the missing footage and re-edited to what Bruce Lee wanted. I love how much Bey Logan knows about Bruce, and these martial arts and Chinese and Hong Kong movie subjects, and this was a joy to see, thank you for this episode.

Not the first film to be totally ADR but it is very honorable how implied Bruce Lee was with the whole process. Thank you again to the kungfugenius for sharing this gem.

What a fantastic episode. Mr Logan is such an articulate, funny and humble speaker. I could have listened to the two of you for hours longer. I could however also hear the onset of what I presume became that "virus of unknown origin" in your voice. Will definitely be checking out Reel East. Props to Mikey for putting in the plug for your mug from Donnie.

0:05 bang. Nailed it. 💯😛🤛1:01 this is my favorite podcast. 16:30 seems as if Bruce was involved in a political debate about how to fill a movie up. And people wondering if he was actually "TOUGH" 😂❤26:41 Bruce was looking into a lot of WHITE CRANE at that point. I had the privilege of learning some SPREADING CRANE it was called. If anybody practices 18 hand PAK SAO, you’ll remember our form, it always has a control hand help an action hand, in WHITE CRANE you’ll see these very same methods. Then we looked into snake shaolin forms, and I found out WING CHUN is a SNAKE and CRANE art. To me. Doesn’t mean I’m right. But it helps me to comprehend some of our predecessors ideas better.” That was dope. I liked how he had intimate knowledge from experience. 💯✅

Redux . His battle cries were taken from fist. enter. And way . Same as in the 82/83 Cantonese version of the big boss. Because after the big boss he was not around for post production because he flew back to the states to film more episodes of longstreet . News to me about the Japanese guy dubbing him in way . I understood he did 2 to different battle cries fot both the English and mandarin versions of way . He had more control over that movie. Hope this info helps you pal 👍

There are literally new films about old generation Hong Kong Chinese struggling in HK today because they don't understand Mandarin. The gap was far worse 50 years ago when the movies in question were made. I'm sorry, but RP or transatlantic is not a better analogy no matter how much you think presenting an argument means I'm "debating" or lawyering you.

Fists of Fury had the best story and narrative structure. Way of The Dragon had the best fight scenes. But weakest story. Enter The Dragon had the biggest scope best quality and production values. But ironically, the poorest fight scenes. The Big Boss was the worst overall of Bruce's films. Boring. There's enough of Game of Death to realize that it was going to be a rather experimental film but what we got, fortunately was a 33 or 39 minute long fight scene.

@@TheKungFuGenius Don't get wrong, Big Boss is still one of the greatest action films on my roster and I place it way up in the pantheon of martial arts films--but just in relation to Bruce's other films it's obviously Bruce's 'freshman effort.'
