Love that he said each movement of the forms has thousands of applications! That's a good Sifu.

Thousands of applications lol never seen Wing Chun being applied in Kickboxing, Muay Thai or MMA. Even if I saw elements or even shadows of its effectiveness in competition. I'd believe in its efficacy. But there's not even a shred of its presence.
You know your sifu is legit when you spend a large chunk of class getting your ass kicked by them lmao
Sifu busts the dummy at 2:47 seconds. Get the Elmer’s Sifu!
that's a great explanation of what the dummy is for, interesting how you explained the movements as a sequence rather than just one move, very cool

+Brandon Briseno that's so cool you are going to really love it!
The important thing here is that the sifu likes heavy metal. We must focus con that.
I like the respectful name drop of Master Wong. Dude is like the Busta Rhymes of martial arts haha. Super animated and over the top but he definitely has knowledge and skill to back it up.
3:10 most important piece of advice really, conditioning is nice but you gotta think about what it's gonna do to you when you're older
this is top form Sifu Russ.

+uidivoful thank you for watching and for the vote of confidence!
It seems every time you do a video on the dummy you pull something out or something falls off lol. Also thanks for this vid, really useful for someone like me who's trained by someone who doesn't have a wooden dummy lol.

+Skalias haha yup that was Sifu not me - he had already destroyed it before I got on the dummy!
Ron Howard is a man of many talents
My dad hand crafted his own dummy. It's wall mounted in the living room.
Should you work on blocking first and then work on forms?
0:22 LOL
FFXV music in the background makes this even better. I want to learn wing chin more than anything
Nice touch with the ff15 menu theme in the background
When I saw the thumbnail, I thought "what's david bond doing martial arts for?"😂
2:18 is like an epiphany to think or react as if the dummy moves. Another door opens.

+Larry Jamieson such an interesting idea! I'm glad he could inspire you to train!
That ffxv music in the back
So where would u find or discover how to really learn, and have a mentor, this type or really any type of techniques if not from KZread vids? Like how do people get into this branch discover these forms
feelin the final fantasy..
Just noticed that for the background music , I'm hearing the Final Fantasy 15 menu select screen.
awesome
The wing chun dummy is called the wooden man and its effective because it shows the aspects of a humans defence and offense and it shows everything about the technical difficulties that wing chun has

I learn wing chun in hon kong where ip manmade his school and its real and wing chun has always been part of me
my problem is that where I'm from.. money is a problem as well as the people.. so.. getting into a fight is likely.. I really want to learn this.. thank you for the motivation also the tips, I like your channel cheers.

does your master have any insight on rotating dummies and how they might or might not tie in with real combat? Also makeshift dummies would be fun. Always wanted to build my own since these wooden dummies are very expensive.

+1080p gaming YEEEEESSSS!! congrats 1080! I knew you could do it !!!!
Wow. Never thought a semi-hipster could be so lethal!
Very nice video where are y'all from?
wing chun is not taught anywhere near me, should i move far away to seek a sifu or should i start a group of interested people to learn it together or what?
one thing need to be clear about fighting, do not be kind to ur opponent, dont hold back, dont think it is cruel for hurting someone, those thoughts will make u fail because u are not ready yet, if u are not ready yet then just fall back, do not engage, if u landed ur first punch keep going until opponent cannot move, it is a yes or no situation in a fight no between. people say wingchun is useless in real fight it is simply because many people train it for their whim no dummy in home
where can i get a quality one on a budget?
0:23 lol was ur controller off?
hello from fellow wing chun in belgium
Hope you hung the coats and hats back on after. Where's the umbrella stand?
Nice Marshal
so i guess this to show you have finally started learning the mook yan joang fot yut ling bot. I have been taught that mook yan joang doesnt go out the door so easily
Really wish he had put that disclaimer about him not telling people how to beat up people and to use it for the right reasons at the beginning of this video. After watching IP man and the first part of this tutorial I tried fighting 10 men for some rice and got the crap beaten out of me. Thanks Phil.
I assumed the wooden dummy practice was for recovery. How to transition to each different move instinctually. Engraving into second nature. I'm open to being wrong
lol that ffxv menu theme tho.
Where do you live? I'm turning 18 soon with an interest in Wing Chun but there aren't any academies around here. I'd love to learn from your Sifu, he seems very experienced.

The Phil Up Awesome, thanks! I was considering living in New York so that's even better haha.
I've thought about taking a pool noodle and wrapping it around a heavy bag to give me perspective whilst working on my cross armed techniques. I know it won't provide the same kind of conditioning or resistance a wooden wing chun dummy would but do you think it could be useful or just a waste of time.

That weak ass ponytail lol😂😂
after 20+ years on the dummy- my bones are really hard and serrated-

Okay where do i go to study wing chun?
wwoowww love it... where I can buy a Wing chun Wooden Dummy, its a great martial arts. I would to find a sensei to learn it.
I mainly trained in docepares and Kali Filipino knife fighting. I'd wouldn't mind learning wingchung
Where can a person get one? What's the costs??
Where can I buy it pls tell me
Structure, Distance and timing.
Are you already black belt?? and how long it took you?
John Malkovich if he became a win chun teacher :P
Is that... the Final Fantasy XV menu theme? O_O

just tuned into that.. was so used to blocking it out that i didnt notice it at first.. hahah
silver nim tao little universe. the Jong is a training tool to help cement and practice the universe on. thing I am trying to understand is that wing chun is taught upside down what is the reasoning behind this?
Is Wing Chun really effective? Should I train with a master or just learn it in home with wooden dummy?
Master Wong 😎🤣
Yeesh! Someone bring that guy to calligraphy school (書法學院). That "詠春" in the background at 1:31 looks like "言永春".
@davieh6
7 жыл бұрын
what do they both mean?
@theyangist
7 жыл бұрын
Eh, written Chinese doesn't exactly work like that. Hanzi sometimes code for words, but often code for bound morphemes. You don't want to be too analytical, since it would be like analyzing Greek and Latin roots of English words, when their link to a word's actual meaning may be loose, at best. "詠春" translates to something like, "Chanting (alone) in springtime," though I think oral tradition says that it comes from some woman's first name. "詠春" is a female-sounding name in Mandarin, and the characters connote physical beauty, like the kind you'd see in classical operas. As an aside, only non-Chinese speakers call it "詠春" by itself without a lot of context (like in 《葉問》). You usually have to label martial arts with a body part -- like "拳" ("fist"), "掌" ("palm"), or "腿" ("leg") -- to clarify that you're describing a martial art. "太極" ("Taiji"), for instance, refers to the concept, "太極圖" to the symbol '☯', and "太極拳" to the martial art Taijiquan.

Beautiful explanation.
I've been watching a lot of these videos lately and one question that I often have is. Why is it when I see wing chun practitioners in Hong Kong and KZread fight it looks so much different with and without boxing gloves. Like without gloves I can see where the moves and techniques come in, but with the gloves it looks like a kind of boxing. Any thoughts?
@axelstone3131
7 жыл бұрын
Because gloves restrict the fingers therefore it limits a lot of wing chun techniques.
@michaelbrainard9912
7 жыл бұрын
Gloves can weigh less than a pound it's not gonna make that much difference.
@michaelbrainard9912
7 жыл бұрын
Yes that is true however consistent training will make it so the difference is minimal. Plus it's nice to have extra knuckle protection, especially for powerful punches which you could mix with the faster strikes.
@michaelbrainard9912
7 жыл бұрын
Martin Chow The technique changes due to amount of flexibility in your wrist that may explain it the rigidity the gloves gives for protection might inhibit a lot of moves
@martinchow1381
7 жыл бұрын
Yeah it makes sense, but I would still minorly question why even bother with gloves during practice, if a free hand spar would be more beneficial to things like technique outside the fact of safety. Thanks!
I do BJJ and taekwondo And would love to see this applied to a full contact live sparring match. It seems a lot of these applications turn into kickboxing. Idk. Use a filter when understanding the flaws in these techniques. It's a great style to practice center line however don't get fooled in a real fight.
Am I the only one clearly hearing the Final Fantasy 15 inventory menu music in the background??? Also, isn't that copyrighted music?????

@Wavemaninawe

Go out and sample stuff. Research what is available in your area and try as much of it as you can. Thats in my opinion the best way to find what suits you. Not just in how you feel about the style, but also how it is being trained in any particular group. Also consider that after you have made a choice, it can still be a good idea to occasionally or regularly cross train other styles in order to widen your horizons.
@TaoistSwordsman
7 жыл бұрын
RyZeAbOvEhAtE I know this was 2 months ago, but my advice would be to look at the black belts/people who have been there a long time, measure their skill level, their character, and if their older did they injure themselves in training or are they just as spry as a 20 year old
Are you serious? Are these people really trying to compare WING CHUN to MMA? Im blown away by the amount of disrespect shown towards an intricate discipline that is Wing Chun. And I practice MMA.
I only learned one movement on the dummy. For real.
Im glad he is not wearing a flames shirt.
Is there already a Dummy that won’t float on water?
I don't wanna do demos with this teacher.
Final fantasy XV soundtrack??
