    Thousands of applications lol never seen Wing Chun being applied in Kickboxing, Muay Thai or MMA. Even if I saw elements or even shadows of its effectiveness in competition. I'd believe in its efficacy. But there's not even a shred of its presence.

    one thing need to be clear about fighting, do not be kind to ur opponent, dont hold back, dont think it is cruel for hurting someone, those thoughts will make u fail because u are not ready yet, if u are not ready yet then just fall back, do not engage, if u landed ur first punch keep going until opponent cannot move, it is a yes or no situation in a fight no between. people say wingchun is useless in real fight it is simply because many people train it for their whim no dummy in home

    I've thought about taking a pool noodle and wrapping it around a heavy bag to give me perspective whilst working on my cross armed techniques. I know it won't provide the same kind of conditioning or resistance a wooden wing chun dummy would but do you think it could be useful or just a waste of time.

    Eh, written Chinese doesn't exactly work like that. Hanzi sometimes code for words, but often code for bound morphemes. You don't want to be too analytical, since it would be like analyzing Greek and Latin roots of English words, when their link to a word's actual meaning may be loose, at best. "詠春" translates to something like, "Chanting (alone) in springtime," though I think oral tradition says that it comes from some woman's first name. "詠春" is a female-sounding name in Mandarin, and the characters connote physical beauty, like the kind you'd see in classical operas. As an aside, only non-Chinese speakers call it "詠春" by itself without a lot of context (like in 《葉問》). You usually have to label martial arts with a body part -- like "拳" ("fist"), "掌" ("palm"), or "腿" ("leg") -- to clarify that you're describing a martial art. "太極" ("Taiji"), for instance, refers to the concept, "太極圖" to the symbol '☯', and "太極拳" to the martial art Taijiquan.

    I've been watching a lot of these videos lately and one question that I often have is. Why is it when I see wing chun practitioners in Hong Kong and KZread fight it looks so much different with and without boxing gloves. Like without gloves I can see where the moves and techniques come in, but with the gloves it looks like a kind of boxing. Any thoughts?

  • @axelstone3131

    @axelstone3131

    Because gloves restrict the fingers therefore it limits a lot of wing chun techniques.

  • @michaelbrainard9912

    Yes that is true however consistent training will make it so the difference is minimal. Plus it's nice to have extra knuckle protection, especially for powerful punches which you could mix with the faster strikes.

    Martin Chow The technique changes due to amount of flexibility in your wrist that may explain it the rigidity the gloves gives for protection might inhibit a lot of moves

  • @martinchow1381

    @martinchow1381

    Yeah it makes sense, but I would still minorly question why even bother with gloves during practice, if a free hand spar would be more beneficial to things like technique outside the fact of safety. Thanks!

    I do BJJ and taekwondo And would love to see this applied to a full contact live sparring match. It seems a lot of these applications turn into kickboxing. Idk. Use a filter when understanding the flaws in these techniques. It's a great style to practice center line however don't get fooled in a real fight.

    Wow thanks for answering man. I totally didn't get a notification. I thought you were taller! Like 5 ft 11 or 6ft. You're still taller then me though. I wish I was 5 ft 9.

    Go out and sample stuff. Research what is available in your area and try as much of it as you can. Thats in my opinion the best way to find what suits you. Not just in how you feel about the style, but also how it is being trained in any particular group. Also consider that after you have made a choice, it can still be a good idea to occasionally or regularly cross train other styles in order to widen your horizons.

    RyZeAbOvEhAtE I know this was 2 months ago, but my advice would be to look at the black belts/people who have been there a long time, measure their skill level, their character, and if their older did they injure themselves in training or are they just as spry as a 20 year old

    Are you serious? Are these people really trying to compare WING CHUN to MMA? Im blown away by the amount of disrespect shown towards an intricate discipline that is Wing Chun. And I practice MMA.
