Yeah, Verdejos really can have a terrific QPR -- just posted a great one on Instagram that was just 18 bucks and you can get really good ones for a fair amount less than that. Cheers!

Rueda Nisia Verdejo Bodegas Ordonez 2017- my first encounter with Verdejo grape - charming and full of character. This varietal caught me by surprise with its unusual flavors -almost petrol undertones to start but finishing with flavors of wild honey along side of well balanced acidity. Hard to believe this lovely wine traveled all the way from central Spain to California and cost a mere $15.00 retail. How do growers/producers make a living?

Cracking stuff. I'm glad you enjoyed Jose Pariente's wine, it really is one of the top Verdejos around. Also, very glad you mentioned the Dorados; though they're freaking hard to find even in Spain! As a sherry geek, this is most troubling. Also, lovely nod to the Vinos de la Tierra wines, which are every year becoming more and more interesting and exciting. Every time I give tastings or tours I also find it amusing that the Madrileños and a lot of Spaniards in general - and predominantly those away from major wine areas - are bored to tears with Rueda Verdejo as it's our base 'vino blanco por favor' wine in any given bar. But visitors love it. I always take time away from it, glugging my fave Godellos, Albariños and sherries, before going back with new 'eyes'. It really is a smashing little wine. If you're ever in Madrid, you know who to call! Tally pip!

Thank you. I just had a really terrific Verdejco VdlT from Castilla y León (you can see it in my Instagram feed), and it was everything I could have hoped -- intense and rich with bright acid and that signature bitter note. I'm sad to hear that the locals might be bored with Verdejo, but, then, all the more for me next time I make a visit -- and I certainly do know who to call. Cheers!

Thank you! That's an interesting suggestion. Strangely, though I have a huge personal library on all sorts of topics, I often use online resources more frequently than I use printed works on wine, though books on wine are important to me. Let me think about it and you may see a cast on this subject in the near future. Cheers!
