Wine Tasting in Oliver | Part 2 | Okanagan Valley Wineries

I had an amazing time on my trip to Oliver, British Columbia in the Southern Okanagan Valley. Oliver is known as the Wine Capital of Canada.
In this episode as I visit a few more of Oliver’s wineries including: Nostalgia Wine, French Door Estate Winery, Kismet Estate Winery, Phantom Creek Estates, Black Hills Estate Winery and Hester Creek Estate Winery.
I ate lunch at Kismet Winery’s Masala Bistro and had a wonderful dinner at Terrafina which is located at Hester Creek Estate Winery.
Oliver Eats Ltd. - A great place to pick up imported Italian foods, sandwiches to order and charcuterie. Be sure to stop by after 11:00am if you’re looking for pre-packaged, ready to go options that they make every morning.
Nostalgia Wine Inc. - Recently rebranded and renamed from Oliver Twist Estate Winery, Nostalgia Wines actually surprised me. Sheila the General Manager served me and walked me through some of their wonderful and refreshing wines. Some of my favourites here are their Viognier, Kerner, Rose, Merlot and Meritage wines. I was also invited to try some of their 2019 wines in barrels that they were bottling the week after I had visited.
French Door Estate Winery - A newer winery to the Oliver area. I had been looking forward to my visit here as last year they had sold out of wine a week before my scheduled visit. This year, they have doubled their production and I was so excited to taste their Provence-style Rose and it didn’t disappoint. My other favourite here was their Heritage which is a Bordeaux style blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.
Kismet Estate Winery - Another winery stop included in the 2021 Uncork BC Okanagan Wine Passport. My favourites here are their Sparkling Moscato, the Infinite Rose and their Mantra which is Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec.
Lunch at Masala Bistro - Offers a great patio in the vines during the summer. The Indian food here is incredible. I ordered two starters and did end up taking most of it to go.
Phantom Creek Estates - Another winery I was really looking forward to visiting. Their vineyards are certified organic and they use biodynamic farming practices. All the wines here that I tried were absolutely amazing. I really enjoyed their Riesling, Viogner, Rose and the Becker Vineyard Cuvee. I unfortunately visited the winery a couple weeks before their restaurant opening, but it looks amazing. This is a winery that I highly suggest visiting and making a reservation in advance for your tasting.
Black Hills Estate Winery - I enjoyed a seated tasting here out on their patio. I tried their Alibi (this is a wonderful, refreshing wine to enjoy on a hot summer’s day), their Chardonnay, Syrah and their Nota Bene.
Hester Creek Estate Winery - A beautiful winery on the Golden Mile Bench. I really enjoyed their Old Vine Brut (which is made with Pinot Blanc using the Traditional Method to make sparking wine), Trebbiano, Rose (made with Cab Franc), Garland and my ultimate favourite was The Judge.
Dinner at Terrafina - A lovely, romantic setting. I had the vegetarian gnocchi and it was delicious.

Yes, I agree! Little Engine Wines, Hillside and Township 7 are some of my favourites on the Naramata Bench. I'm set to visit again in September :)

Thanks for the recommendations! We're heading to the okanagan for wine tasting in a couple weeks. With Covid did you feel you needed to book a reservation at every winery or were the usual places still taking walk-ins?

If you have wineries that are high up on your list to visit, I highly suggest making reservations. I booked reservations for 95% of my tastings. Some wineries are by reservations only. Hope you have a fantastic time! :)
