    The venerable Margaux has got to be my favorite Château and their legendary 2015 and 2018 are my absolute dream bottles - and, THIS, is the best Château Margaux-centered video I’ve seen, by far. The information, insights, and recommendations are so brilliantly written and articulated, reflecting not just your exemplary research but also your expertise, knowledge, and years of relevant experience in relation to Bordeaux and the world of wine in general. From history highlights and vintage recommendations to buying and collecting strategies, every topic is presented and discussed deftly and excellently. The wine descriptions are beautiful and breathtaking! Love your words about the elegance and finesse of this magical wine, and this part in particular is simply sublime: “…seductive violet aromatics that can haunt you for days long after you’ve enjoyed it.” Congratulations on yet another outstanding video that every wine-lover and Bordeaux enthusiast should watch at least twice in their lifetime!😊 And yes, please, do make Lafite and Latour videos as well! Pavilion Rouge was my introduction to Bordeaux and indeed French wines, following a holiday in 2008 when I was able to pick up some bottles of the 2004 vintage. I’ve enjoyed and collected more since. Perhaps I’m biased as result, but Margaux and Palmer have been my favorites from Bordeaux since. Generally I’ve a preference for Rhône over Bordeaux, but this is changing as perhaps the Bordeaux I’ve collected improve with bottle age and likely my palette is evolving too.

    Faaaabulouuuussssss as always! If you only have time to do one, please present Latour. It's often an "odd duck" with it's tasting profile, and of all these first growths and famous wines from around the globe, I would appreciate your detailed insight into it's... Everything. I just had an '85 tasting of all these first growths, and others.... And Latour was,..... "just different". Thanks very much at always. PS- an aside... I just bought a Magnum of 2002 Cristal. What are your thoughts on storage of great vintage Champagne? I don't often buy bubbles, but I've read both... Store on side like everything else, which makes more sense to me. But, I've also heard stand it up so that there is no air leakage because of the normal cork function? Help? Thanks very much from sunny Alberta!

    The older vintage bottles sell cheaper than the late vintage. So does it mean it's not a good investment? these wine at its peak, it will start to lose its value ? and investors or stores will want to get it off their cellar vs charge more premium on it ??

  • @AttorneySomm

    @AttorneySomm

    Жыл бұрын

    It depends how far back you are talking about. Vintages like 1990 and 2000 are 100-point vintages that will keep their value or increase for at least another 1-2 decades. But I woulds avoid older off vintages for investment purposes (e.g., 91-94, 97, 02, etc.). 99 is drinking beautifully now, so that is excellent value for current consumption.

    Hi, if my favorite wines are the likes of Las Cases, VCC, Figeac, Ducru and Lalande, while not being a fan of Cos, Montrose, Baron, Palmer, would you say its better for me to invest in a Margaux rather than a Haut Brion? I remember trying the 98 Haut Brion and Margaux in a small sample event and really enjoyed both. If memory serves me correct, the Haut Brion had such a haunting nose but the Margaux had the best palette.

  • @AttorneySomm

    @AttorneySomm

    Hello! If you do not like Palmer, it would be hard for me to recommend Margaux. Palmer is literally across the street and so those two would have the most in common of any in your list. Of course, Margaux is also excellent but for me Haut-Brion is my favorite First Growth. It also tends to offer the best price points for many vintages.

    @@AttorneySomm thanks so much for ur reply. yes its interesting that i was not impressed by the highly rated Palmer 2005, as it felt very new world to me in fruit n oak. interestingly i do enjoy alot of other margaux like brane cantenac and rauzan segla for their value to quality. personally i enjoy subtlety and finesse so i find the elegance of las cases and ducru to be my style. recently had Figeac 19 and it immediately shot into my top 5 of all time... i never expected figeac to be this elegant and floral. so yes in general i prefer my wines to have minimal oak so perhaps haut brion will suit my palette more as it appears to be the first growth with the least oak influence am i right?

  • @AttorneySomm

    @AttorneySomm

    @@Spiritchaser93 You might try another vintage of Palmer. 05 is a bit of an outlier. Palmer is usually very elegant too. Palmer has a high Merlot percentage as does Haut Brion most vintages (although HB is less than Palmer). But HB is consistently excellent every vintage so you really can’t go wrong with HB.

    @@AttorneySomm hmmm how should i put it? i find that elegance and freshness usually in cab sav or cab franc dominant wines, hence las cases to me is elegant. i guess the winemaking style of palmer just does not appeal to me. i rmb having the alter ego 2010 and again it was not my style. the 2005 palmer to me lacked sophistication relative to the expectations i had for it. i guess HB is more refined than Margaux the last time i tasted the 1998, it had a much longer aftertaste while the margaux felt juicier because of the merlot. HB was clearly the better wine in 1998 imo.
