Actually it doesn't work everywhere. For example while renaming files. Windows explorer inserts some rectangle character that represents this combo. I think I've seen this somewhere else too, but I can't recall it now. And this CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER thing - it's gonna be my new favourite, thanks for that.

There is a lot of great shortcuts with Ctrl and Shift. For example if you want to select a text from beginning of the file to where the cursor is just press Ctrl+Shift+Home. This also works with End, Page Up, Page Down, Up arrow, Down arrow. Pretty useful when working with documents, code or consoles.

CTRL + F4 works across all multiple document interfaces in any program which is what I like. Browsers always act a little different though, notice how they use F11 for full screen while everything else standardizes on ALT-ENTER. It's strange 🤔

@@Barnacules They do different things. Alt + f4 is closing a program. Ctrl + W is closing a tab within focused program. Ctrl+ W is not just browsers, it also works in VScode, MSoffice / LibreOffice, Krita, MS terminal, inkscape, most adobe products (IIRC). Also as a continuation to this video perhaps it'd be interesting to discuss how to rebind / macro keys? Example: Alt + f4 is the OG way of doin things for sure. But unless you're using a compact form factor keyboard it's not really accessible with only 1 hand. What if you rebind it to Alt + ~ 😁

@@marble_wraith Jerry was talking about Ctrl+F4 (close tab), not Alt+F4 (close window). Anyway, Ctrl+W often closes a tab, but not always, whereas Ctrl+F4 usually works in either case. For example, Ctrl+W does not close a tab in Visual Studio (proper) or IntelliJ IDE, but Ctrl+F4 does.

What the two previous posters were referring to is Ctrl+F4, not Alt, which is generally the same function as Ctrl+W, Ctrl+F4 makes more sense for me as I see it as Alt+Tab -> Ctrl+Tab, Alt+F4 -> Ctrl+F4

There is one people don't know about because you're so used to for years to click around is (I know it's not specific to Windows) : *ALT + TAB* when you are on a form, and you want to go to the next field, you use TAB. And to go to the previous field, *ALT+TAB* (in excel, you can have many cells selected and move the active one WITHOUT losing the selection your selection with TAB and ALT+TAB instead of using the arrow keys). Another one useful with internet browsers is : *CTRL+TAB* - it selects the next tab (useful when you have tons of them opened), and to go back in the list : *CTRL+SHIFT+TAB*

actually edge now is one of the best "major" browsers .. its based on chromium but doesn't track as much as Chrome .. I'm sure it does tracking but its not as invasive as Google Chrome but still has access to the Chrome extensions. I guess Firefox is good also .. but as of now .. it's a battle between Firefox and Edge .. and Chrome is basically falling out of graces

I have an underpowered detachable windows tablet with 2GB of RAM and believe me, I use the old Edge browser daily and it works really well on such devices, I imagine Microsoft originally designed it to work on their own underpowered devices that couldn't handle Aero effects when developing it when Windows 10 first came out. It only runs slow on Google services like KZread but then I can switch to the Chromium one on the same device without much issue

5:35 thanks for that one, and yes please make more, i often watch KZread on my TV and i use a wireless keyboard with a trackpad, so keyboard shortcuts are a godsend, my most often used one (as you can guess) is Ctrl+W (close tab), i also recently learned of Ctrl+PgDn or Up to move between open tabs and Ctrl+1 to 9 to jump to a tab, i usually have way more than 9 tabs, so in that case Ctrl+9 takes you to the last tab, which is one of the only ways to get to it if you have more tabs open than your screen can handle, so it's super useful.
