    Hi Jason. Great tips for keeping Windows 10 running smoothly. For anyone interested in putting a Disk Cleanup icon on the desktop or in the taskbar: right click on the desktop >> New >> Shortcut >> for "Type the location of the item:" enter: C:\Windows\System32\cleanmgr.exe. Then Next >> Name it something like Disk Cleanup >> then Finish. You now have an icon on the desktop that will run the app. If you want it in your taskbar, run it and then right click on the icon in the taskbar as it runs and choose: Pin to taskbar. I know it is easy to run from Start, but I find that if I make the icon visible, it reminds me to use it more often. Hope this is useful for someone. Thanks for all your great videos and tips :)) Thumbs up!!

    As an IT Professional for over 20 years I feel that this video is very clear and concise. You would not believe how many techs I had to teach this stuff to (let alone end users).I have found that for the VAST majority of issues are cleared up by doing these basic tasks. (most important is restarting the computer at LEAST once a week.) In an enterprise we use group policy to manage some of these tasks. The last big this is looking at disk space once in a while. I just took care of a user who was saving all scanned images to the hard drive and not clearing them out (0nly had 80 Mb free out of 256 Gb) I told the person to place them on the network or on a portable 1tb drive. Now the world is good again

    One more for the list "dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup" from an administrative command prompt, this does a tidy up of the WinSXS folder, you can see the difference if you run "dism /online /cleanup-image /analyzecomponentstore" before and after. I don't have a video on the BIOS. It is Basic Input Output System and is the first software that is triggered when you turn on your computer. It is used to start the operating system and is configured for your hard drive, memory, graphics and other devices in your system. You rarely have to do anything with the BIOS. The most common is if you change out a hard drive or add memory. Otherwise it is preset for you on a new computer.

    Microsoft has deprecated Windows (long lived) Cleanup manager (cleanmgr.exe), which means it's not supported anymore, and you use at your own risk (I use to schedule a weekly cleanmr task on every Windows installation I did, doesn't work now :( ) Another good maintenance task to setup is a RAM disk and store your web browsers cache on it, it'll make the web browser snappier and every time you reboot the browser cache will be clean (good security measure).

    Yes you forgot to clear virtual memory. Do this BEFORE you defray the disk. 1. Start in safe mode 2. Go to virtual memory settings and turn it off by setting it to ZERO 3. Reboot into safe mode 4. Defrag the disk 5. Turn back on virtual memory and let Windoze manage it 6. Reboot into normal mode. Virtual memory works much better when it has a large chunk of continuous disk space. Like every other Windoze file it can be fragmented causing your disk to trash looking for pages. The best thing would be to relocated the virtual memory on another disk all by itself just like a real operating system like Linux does

    Windows 10 by itself will take up at least 20GB of disk space. If you have any other programs installed and some picture files you could easily get to 41GB even with a very clear operating system. It sounds like you just need a larger hard drive. You could get an inexpensive 500GB SSD for under $60 if you find one that works with your computer and that would solve many of your challenges including give you a faster performing computer.

    @@SeleTraining I do like 8.1 because MS leaves me alone. with 10 you never know whats going to happen. :) the main program I use is Presonus StudioOne but I cant update because the new updates only will work with 10 or higher. this laptop is an HP envy i5 16GB ram 4CPUs. I probably should just get a new Laptop. and have this 8.1 as backup. thank you so much for your help and responses, something rarely happens on youtube.

    I have a weekly network regiment that includes the following; 1. Update my Roku and Smart Television. 2. Run the Print Head and Test Page regime on my printer. 3. Reboot my router. 4. Since I have two PC's on my network, I run the same regime on both. 4.a Run Windows Update, if there are updates available, install them, and reboot both machines when necessary. 4.b Run Disk Clean up on both machines. 4.c Run Office Update 4.d Run updates on my apps 5. Run CCleaner to clear out all junk files, and clear out all corrupt registry entries. 6. Run Defraggler to optimize my disk. 7. Run Panda Anti-Virus 8. Run Panda Cloud Cleaner 9. Run Malwarebytes 10. Run the full regime of Spybot Search and Destroy 11. Run Spybot Anti-Beacon. 12. Re-run CCleaner 13. Re-run Defraggler 14. Run a script file that is saved in my System32 directory I wrote called Refresh.bat. The script is below; sfc /scannow DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth ipconfig /release ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /renew ipconfig /registerdns shutdown /r 15. After my machines reboot back into a cleaned state, I run an app called Speedtest. I test different segments of the internet in my area. 16. I run a speed test on www.fast.com/ on my browsers. I complete three runs and compare the results of the runs and make adjustments as necessary. 17. Start using my machines as normal.

  • @SeleTraining

    @SeleTraining

    3 жыл бұрын

    There are a number of things that can cause the 100% disk usage issue on Windows 10. On some older versions of Windows there was a bug that can be fixed simply by doing an update. One of the more common issues is that Windows updates are running in the background even when you don't see them. Go to Windows Update and make sure nothing is pending and complete any updates. You may need to restart multiple times. If you can't get past these pending updates then follow the steps I show to clear out stuck updates in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oXaFwa5mkrzfiNo.html. You can also see a list of other potential issues here: www.cleverfiles.com/howto/100-disk-usage-windows-10.html.
