Win Your Next Fight With This Elite Karate Strategy

Jesse Enkamp (The Karate Nerd) explains a kumite fighting strategy to learn the best moment to attack your opponent with perfect timing. This tactic is known as "The Clock Strategy" and can be applied to all styles of Karate - and even other martial arts that do sparring, kumite or fighting in general. WKF world champions like Rafael Aghayev, Luigi Busa, Douglas Brose and Matsuhisa Ko use this tactic all the time. Visit www.karatebyjesse.com to learn more!

Strategy to deal with different types of opponents. Like some are aggressive, some are defensive and some people keep switching between aggressive and defensive.
How would you apply these rules to fighting Chuck Norris 1: He’s almost certainly better than me 2: Time waits for no man unless that man is Chuck Norris, so hard to say when the first quarter, half or last quarter is 3: Chuck Norris never retreats, he just attacks in the opposite direction

Hey Jesse, I’m a brown belt in taekwondo, I’ve been sparring with black belts since day one and hardly ever score a hit, but I used this technique and managed to score six hits on someone that would usually easily beat me
You could make a video about fear/insecurity/stress. Everyone preps and trains for a fight. Everyone has a strategy/plan. Sometimes though the stress or fear can be overwhelming and even though you might have been a better fighter but eventually lose cause of these factors. Some people will say it goes away with time/practice/experience or say to stay away from martial arts. I believe fear or stress are just emotions that someone can overcome with the proper instructions. Are there ways, perhaps techniques that new and old practitioners can implement in their training to overcome these frustrating emotions or is time the only remedy? Thank you.
Great Topic! The ability to immediately implement and adapt this concept is so crucial in developing a versatile strategy in any style of fighting.
Amazing video Mr. Jesse, thank you very much for sharing this knowledge, greetings from Venezuela.
For me the most difficult is to hit my opponent hard. I''m still worried about hurting them 😅😅

They signed up for it. Let em have it. Besides, if you don't push them, you are denying them chances to improve and therefore not being a great training partner. You're also teaching yourself to hold back and therefore denying yourself improvement as well. That's not saying to let go of self-control but don't be scared to apply some force and skill. Approach your battles with confidence, choose them wisely though. They'll either power through the pain and grow stronger, or they will quit. That choice is theirs, yours, alone. The key is to determine how hard you can hit them without hurting them too much. You don't wanna break your partner but you do wanna give them a realistic sense of combat as well. Obviously these rules differ in actual confrontations. In which you'll wanna do whatever you have to do but just know if you hurt them too much, you risk legal trouble. But if lives are threatened then I say anything goes, prefer not to kill but if you absolutely have no other choice but death, your life or theirs, then I mean.... ya know. ;)
Great video! My problem is mental. Pulling the trigger to attack and I usually get performance anxiety before/during every tournament. I tend to think during Kumite as well when I should be more fluid. Give me a microphone and I’ll perform karaoke no problem in front of any crowd but put me on the mat and it’s a different story.
This was useful. I've never heard these strategy's articulated this well and effectively formulated.
I love that you leave some of the out takes in your edits it makes it personal and relatable . I can see and feel your friendly Sensei atmosphere in these videos. I have a Karate tournament coming up in a week so im getting advice. Well done! Osu!

This will definitely help me at my next tournament and will definitely use it on my friends when they test for their next degree which the kumite is generally after they've been exhausted lol

At first i thought this was a comedy troll fighting channel, and now, i found out i was wrong and i started to love it, great channel, greetings from a kyokushin fighter.
Thanks for this video, Jesse! I'm struggeling with moving in general: 1. I often just bounce up and down, having a particular rhythm in my movements. 2. I often fail in attacking "out of nowhere" and instead move a foot or a hand before I actually attack, which gives my partner time to prepair. 3. It's sometimes quite hard for me to move around my partner, and it's just a fourth and back.
I love it jesse
Thank you.I almost always lose to my opponents owing mostly to my Dyspraxia.I’m a 7th Kyu and I lost to my Dad (a Red Belt). However I did land the first point.I shall try and apply what you have said, hopefully I improve. Many thanks, Jesse Sensei.Oss.😊.

Great video, some good concepts to think about and work on. Ok, I know you are a youngster, but what about some of us older guys? I’m 56 and not quite as flexible, light on my feet, or nimble as I used to be. I love to kick and mix it up with the best of them but head high round house kicks and hook kicks to a 6’ opponent are beyond my capabilities. What can I work on to increase my explosiveness with my sweeps, chudan level kicks and punches. Thanks for your consideration!
A video on what mentality you should have when you get into a fight.
My biggest hurdle is turning the tide from defense into offense. I can defend myself pretty well, but I have a hard time being aggressive and offensive. I'm very traditional and I don't spar a lot so some of it is my subconscious fear of being hit.
Hello Jesse i got a questions it is in witch cuntry in sweden is your dojo in.( coming from Sweden to. jag vill början)
How about a video about over coming your fear of being hit, which is most people's problem when fighting? Which can lead into being more aggressive. Or a video about learning to control your anger/aggression so you don't hurt someone? Which would be my issue. Karate has helped me with that since I came home from Iraq and I would love this knowledge to be shared with everyone, not just veterans.
Thx Jesse. What about an older Karateka facing a younger opponent?

I put pressure, but not by constantly beating, keeping up the body pressure, always going forward a bit and then release again. I keep him occupied constantly, so the younger opponent can not build his techniques. Because when he comes he is faster!

@@KarateFitTraining Interesting, I tend to counter fight against younger guys, try to frustrate them a little, cut angles a lot and then put pressure on if I see them let up or pause. Same idea I guess.
That´s an interesting and great strategy. Well I think I´m gonna use that way of thinking in my next fights. 😎PS: I´d like to watch a video about how to deal with an opponent who fights in a defensive way. If two fighters fight each other who use a defensive style it normally becomes a bad fight because most of the time nothing´s happening, right?!? 🤔
Great video as usual Sensei 🙏 In Kuyokshin we often use the time strategy, but it now so well known that you have to create sub strategies before a fight. That mean everything from in depth video analysis of your opponents earlier fights and a rundown of their technical and physical abilities. Then you make a fight plan. I would like to see your take on fighting a much quicker opponent than yourself. Because t for some it can be a headache. I am teaching my strategy for a quicker opponent, but would be great to see yours. 🙏

Could you make a video on how to fight as, and against, a type of fighter? Aggressive-Passive-Defensive
Hi im an 8th Kyu and this helped me alot. Last week I had a sparring match and I won 3-2 against my friend. Though gotta admit it it was a bit of luck that helped me win. Now last Wednesday me and my friend had a rematch and this time I lost 2-3. Me and My friend are basically equal in skill. I think he knew this strategy cause I play mostly aggressive and then I end up gettin tired quickly. He plays defensive for most of the match. But once I get tired he constantly applies pressure. Next Wednesday I will rematch him and try the strategy!
Hi jesse I want you to make a video fighting someone and how did you win . Thanks for this information in fight.
Your enemy is also watching this video 😂
Hi, love your videos. 🥋 Could you make a video about how to keep your nerves in a fight, stop being scared and not let your opponent get to you? Even in training I cannot think clearly because I'm afraid and I would very much like to change that. Thanks and keep up the great work!
@KARATEbyJesse
5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, thanks for the suggestion 😄🙏
My biggest challenge is honestly the fear and acceptance that im going to get hit, not in the body but in the face. The only reason i have reasonably less fear about it now is because its happened sparring amongst friends, one being just above my weight class (me being 140/145 regularly, and him being about 165/170). And the 2nd time being 290 which is literally twice my size. Both lead to concussions, match one took about 3 punches at maybe 50-70% power from his side, and the 2nd took a single hook and little to no effort. Now obviously getting hit that hard in the head isnt the safest or best way to overcome this fear, but thats what it took for me, and even now im a little hesitant about whether my fear is still lingering or not. Not sure if you have a video about this fear, but if not then maybe you could make one ?
Some more teaching videos thanks😉😎☺️
I don’t want the fight to stop. I want to keep going. I feel like, after the fight, I’m empty.
I think, my struggle when it comes to fight someone in a tournament is the lack of sparring in my dojo, we do some techniques and tactics, but those are with the partners waiting for the attack... also, those with my size sometimes they don’t go to the training... I’m thinking of that because when sometimes we do sparring, I feel like I’m really learning something because my partner is not waiting for my attack, they want to attack too.
Jesse, following this topic maybe the next video could be called “Breaking the Ice” most new students that have little to no kumite experience have a hard time deciding what would be a good first attack in a kumite. On the next video please explain some simple but effective moves that can both break the ice to get the adrenaline pumping and maybe even score a point to get confidence up. Thank you.
Ossu Sensei, thank you...🤓🤓🤓🥋🥋🥋🥋👍👍👍
Hey Jesse it’s Brandon, I was wondering if you could give some fighting tricks or training for a kyokushin practitioner?
What’s up, what tips do you have for kata in a Shinkyokushin tournament
Do you have a video on training speed and accuracy?
My problem is that I'm unsure of nearly every attack I do. Like no matter the person I'm always hesitant and end up countering for most of the fight because I'm not sure what works for me. I've been trying all kinds of drills but I'm still skeptical, but your video helped me a lot, thanks!

When I was in tournaments. I used to hate to be the one that had to go first. Because when it was my turn, I would be in my head. Thinking about everyone else watching. Seeing my strengths and weaknesses!
Jesse Sensei, I struggle mostly with fighters that are quicker than me. I kind of freeze and stay in my spot. “Deer frozen in headlight” type of thing. Any tips to “unfreeze” and fight an answer to a faster opponent?
Something difficult for me is getting back into karate. I did it for about two years before falling out of it. I still love it, and want to do it, but can't seem to find the drive to pick it back up. Any tips or advice that can possibly help me get back into it?
Hey Jessy! My name is smith, and I’m from the shorin-Ryu style. In my dojo I’m one of the smaller guys, with shorter arms and legs, so I have a hard time getting pass guard, how on earth am I supposed to hit them when their arms and les are in the way.

I have cleared my state level taekwondo tournament but I have a problem of not attacking as much as I can I just waste time in the arena and my master complained me about that saying that I will not be able to win any other fight if my opponent is faster. So I wanted to increase my speed of kicks. Could you please give me some advice on how to increase my speed ?

In Tai Chi and other Kung Fu styles, they all habe these exercises that help a person sense their energy, or Qi (Chi), called Qigong. And I heard that the Japanese word "Ki" is the word used in place of the Chinese "Qi". Are there Ki cultivating exercises for Karate?

I'd like to see a karate video on dealing with an overly dedicated attacker. Often an opportunity to flip an attacker presents itself when an opponent is either overconfident, angry or tries to overdedicate a strike.
