WIN with Black using the FRENCH DEFENSE

In this video, I show my analysis of two very instructive over-the-board chess games played by me in the French Defense, involving some beautiful tactical shots. I also explain ideas you can use to win with Black using the French Defense.

Nice French variation! I would like if you had the evo bar up all times. Easier to understand how much of a dubious move some are🙂

Sometimes it’s just not that helpful, because computer evaluations are not necessarily always relevant for humans, you shouldn’t rely on them too much. Fabi spoke about it in the podcast episode with me on this channel, and I tend to agree

Just a scond question if tou have the time, all the top gm who a commentating is trashing the french. Obviously that for the super gm guys that have all the opening database in their head, but is the french just as solid as the caro for rating about 1500-1800? I went from french to caro and got more solid games i feel, but that may be me offcourse of not knowing enogh theory. Why do you prefer the french over the caro is my question i guess😅 Thanks for replying btw on other videos, much appreciated😊

The French is a totally legit opening for any rating level. Ding has played it against Nepo in the title match last year and comfortably equalized. Nepo himself has played the French in the 2020 Candidates (which he won), Magnus has also occasionally played it (not just in blitz, but over the board as well - e.g. against Fabi in Norway Chess, if my memory is not mistaken). I hope this proves that the opening is fine. As for 1500-1800 level, I think any opening works well, as long as you know some theory and main ideas as well as get the feel of the typical positions and plans. Good luck!
