the blurb about serena at the 15 second mark is wrong. this match was serena’s FOURTH grand slam semifinal NOT her second. she was also 20 years old NOT 21. can’t believe people actually get paid to do these.

Serena and Venus changed the definition of women's tennis. It was boring before they came into action. They Introduced power(Serena's power being the most dominant) and fast pace to the game which made it almost impossible for their opponents to hold a rally against them(hence their winning percentage is high).

@@Lee-zw5km lol i dont think she would have won anymore than she did. She was neck and neck with Serena, Davenport was still a liability to her and Venus was her biggest foe (0-4 lifetime). She was starting to have problems with the Russian brigade back in 2003. Then after the Henin ascendancy, Capriati was toast. She got as much mileage as she could out of that little comeback.
That was great, especially since it seemed like Serena had only 2 fans. The crowd was definitely rooting Capriati. A great win on a tough surface.

No question. Her angles on both side and movement were unmatched. Not to mention she had the best 1st and 2nd serve,
this was a huge match for serena. her 2000 and 2001 seasons were a bit of a let down after 1999 and jennifer had beaten her in 2 close 3 set slam qfs in 2001 (and miami), so she seemed to have her number in the slams. definitely think this was a huge mental block she knocked down and allowed her to have the 2002 season and career that she did. and jennifer was the defending champ and just won the australian!
0:32 incorrect, this was at least Serena’s THIRD grand slam semifinal appearance. She also made the semis at USO 1999 (obviously, having won it) and then Wimbledon SF in 2000, losing to Venus.
Serena was so fit here! wow
What an incredible and quality match !! The power and the ability of both is just insane :O
But Serena won 1999 US Open, then made 2000 WIM SF losing to Venus and then 2001 US Open Finals losing to Venus..so this was Serena's 4th Semifinals appearance

It was very old school...kind of like copying Evert but not great technique. Compare to Mary Pierce (also modelled on Evert)...the shoulders and hips move in unison, producing a balanced shot and more effortless power. Davenport probably had the best backhand of that generation (as well as Venus)...perfect timing and flawless technique. Jennifer's forehand was excellent though and I think her steady backhand was a weapon combined with the powerful forehand.
it's crazy that towards the end of the second set when Capriati was having her comeback, the crowd was going nuts yet it was Capriati who had 3 slams to Serena's 1 at this stage. It was Capriati who won the last slam in Australia. And it was Capriati who had won the first set of this match so why were they so for her to win? Usually they go for the underdog and the one who hasn't already won a set so the match will go three. It can only be a race thing

I don’t think it was good fortune. Myskina was a consistent top 10 player in 2002 and 2003 before winning her Slam at the age of 22 and she beat Molik, Kuznetsova, Venus, Capriati and Dementieva to win the title while seeded #6. Injuries prevented her from going further in her career, not lack of talent. She was physically done by 25 and retired very young. She had a winning record against all of her Russian contemporaries at the time (3-2 vs Sharapova, 4-2 vs Kuznetsova, 5-1 against Safina, 3-1 vs Zvonareva, 9-6 vs Dementieva, 3-2 vs Petrova, etc.)

Venus in the final would have destroyed her on grass, particularly when she is 3-0 vs Capriati on hard courts, where Capriati's chances are far higher than they would be vs Venus on grass. In fact with Venus and Davenport playing in the other semi, I guaranteed Capriati would never win the title if she won the semi vs young Henin, no matter who she played, as both Venus and Davenport are certain to beat her on grass.

Serena would not be denied by Capriati. It's even sweeter bc Carpiati always felt, and acted, like she was better than Serena - but Serena was like bitch plz
Serena was only 20 yrs old in this semi final . Semi final was in May & she did not turn 21 till September
One of the most important matches in Serena's career

Yes, this match helped catapult her success as a major-winning machine. When she defeated Venus in the final, it was the beginning of her first “Serena Slam.”
Is the scoreboard at 15:20 incorrect? It shows 3 MPs for Capriati
Correction its not Serena's 2nd semi ..it her 4th semi final of grand slam
🎾 ❤ ❤
Serena was 20 years old at the time of the 2002 Roland Garros, not 21... yet. Serena Williams D.O.B. 09/26/1981
this damn opening muic, wow
WHY is the picture of her first round match in the Cameroon outfit but the match is the semifinals in the black outfit.
Capriati is just so quick and powerful too❤
Better than her SF against Elena in Wimbledon, just my opinion 👏👏👏
Just saw the end on instagram
GO SERENA!¡!!!! THE G.O.A.T.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@15:18 I didn't realize Serena saved match points in this match 😂

I as a black man from the continent of Africa. respect Serena Williams for wearing the Cameroon Jersey. It to be show unity to us black people as a whole. This truly made me happy. I am Truly confident that Serena Williams Ancestors are from Cameroon. What Serena Williams did allow me as a black man to truly respect her because most black people would never do it. but she did it. I thank you, Serena Williams.
Can you please upload the highlights for the final of this tournament between Serena and Venus? It's kind of embarrassing that it's not up already on this channel.
her hair is stunning
No the matched tell the story that the past Stars at 90 era games is more amazing..Capriati showed that
The Golden USA WTA tennis era : Venus , Serena , Capriati , Davenport
QUEEN SERENA🎾🎾🎾
Notice how quiet the cheering gets when Serena starts winning. This filthy crowd didn't even clap when Serena won the 2nd set. Wow
We surely miss this Era Serena, Venus , Capriati, Davenport,Hingis, Henin, Clijister, Amelie

@@Kariminou and @genesis C I could only wish she is at least 10 years younger and quicker and more agile and more nimble. my point really is, she is clearly past her prime now. while its painful to see her getting beaten by Osaka in big moments, Osaka will clearly have a run for her money had she faced the prime serena.

@@asherbernardinojr A run for her money? she would be absolutely destroyed and I'm talking 2 and 3. Easy no problem. Osaka is no better than Mary Pierce. She's just playing in a weaker era and hasn't had the injuries Pierce did.

Serena’s power is insane damn
Jennifer could have won that second set 7-5 and won the whole match. Serena was too good at the right moments. Miss those days.
