Williams Renault FW14B Formula 1 car (Fujimi 1/20 scale model)

Full build of Fujimi's 1:20 scale Williams Renault FW14B model kit. I also use Tabu decals for the missing sponsorship decals from the kit. This is the car raced in the 1992 Formula 1 season by Nigel Mansell and Riccardo Patrese, with Mansell winning the driver's World Championship and Williams winning the Constructor's Championship. This was Mansell's last full season with Williams, with Alain Prost taking over the team lead in 1993.

    Not built an F1 car before. Have done the tamiya lotus 7 years ago and quite a few tamiya motorcycles. Fun fact, I have also rebuilt my lambretta scooter from the ground up and several vespa's as well and I can say with some authority that building an irl lambretta is easier than building a tamiya ducatti. Imo anyway!

    I loved the build. I have a very large collection. Mainly military model, but I have about 45 cars of various kinds and model companies. I love what you did with the car. It was fantastic work. I like to sand down the tires and then give them a coat of model master flat black thinned down to a 10 parts thinner to 1 part paint. In my opinion it makes the tires look like they have been well used on the track and gets rid of the mold marks. Keep up the great videos. I will keep watching.

    I put the hub on the wheel and either turn it on a Dremmel or a Drill. Get a good spin going and lightly touch on a fine grit sandpaper until the mold line just disappears.

    Sensational build mate .. but a question for you .. have you encountered more fit issues with Fujimi kits relative to Tamiya? I just purchased the Williams FW16 .. how did you find that kit ?

  • @ModelNerd

    @ModelNerd

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks Dean. Yes, I think the fit of the Fujimi kits can be worse than Tamiya kits, even the really old Tamiya kits which might have warped. I find the engine covers are the worst in this regard: I'm just building the Fujimi Ferrari F92 and I'm considering gluing down the engine cover because the gaps are just ridiculous. But there was a poor fit on the cockpit to floor too, and on the nose cone. I built the FW16 a while ago (before I had a KZread channel) and I remember it being OK. Certainly better than this Ferrari. I really wish somebody (Tamiya!) would bring out some modern F1 kits and show us the way it should be done. I guess licensing makes it too expensive though.

  • @joncochrane8189
    @joncochrane81894 жыл бұрын

    Great job on the kit!! Looks fantastic! have you tried decanting the Tamiya cans?? I finally gave it a shot, so I could airbrush the colors in the cans and it's worth doing. Those TS sprays are so much nicer than the Tamiya acrylics. With your talent level you would have no problem decanting the spray cans into a jar and then using them in the AB. Just don't seal up the decanted paint for about 12-24 hours so it can de-gas. After that, you're good to go.

  • @ModelNerd

    @ModelNerd

    4 жыл бұрын

    I've considered it, but the whole degassing thing put me off. I was hoping Tamiya would release some of the TS colours in their new lacquer range, but nothing so far.
