William Henry Knife Hand Engraving Gold Inlay
Here's a William Henry Knife that I hand engraved with some gold inlay on the beak of the birds using 24k gold wire about 0.5mm in diameter.
Showing the steps from drawing design to finished engraving.

That technique of cutting your under cut area inside of your outlines is nice. I bet it makes it a ton easier to clean up , and preserves the original size of the drawing.

Yes, I try to give a little room when inlaying to protect the outline of the design.
Your idea with a bird's head original I like it very much

Buon lavoro Complimenti ; Buon gusto e tecnica
Thats truly awesome, congrats. Do you think that in the future this kind of job will disappear because of the the machines? Like Cad Cam ....? I really want to learn to hand engrave but I'm worried about the future of this job.

Thanks. I think there is a niche for hand made stuff, not done by computer.

Was the initial design done on transparent paper? How do you usually transfer. The work looks great

I used clear film and inkjet printer for this project.

Use soft copper wire on carbon steel for practice inlay.
